Crossed Andreev reflection in a graphene bipolar transistor

We investigate the crossed Andreev reflections between two graphene leads connected by a narrow superconductor. When the leads are respectively of the n-and p- type, we find that electron elastic cotunneling and local Andreev reflection are both eliminated even in the absence of any valley-isospin or spin polarizations. We further predict oscillations of both diagonal and cross conductances as a function of the distance between the graphene-superconductor interfaces.

Josephson coupling through ferromagnetic heterojunctions with noncollinear magnetizations

We study the Josephson effect in clean heterojunctions that consist of superconductors connected through two metallic ferromagnets with insulating interfaces. We solve the scattering problem based on the Bogoliubov--de Gennes equation for any relative orientation of in-plane magnetizations, arbitrary transparency of interfaces, and mismatch of Fermi wave vectors. Both spin singlet and triplet superconducting correlations are taken into account, and the Josephson current is calculated as a function of the ferromagnetic layers thicknesses and of the angle $α$ between their magnetizations. We find that the critical Josephson current $I_c$ is a monotonic function of $α$ when the junction is far enough from $0-π$ transitions. This holds when ferromagnets are relatively weak. For stronger ferromagnets, variation of $α$ induces switching between 0 and $π$ states and $I_c(α)$ is non-monotonic function, displaying characteristic dips at the transitions. However, the non-monotonicity is the effect of a weaker influence of the exchange potential in the case of non-parallel magnetizations. No substantial impact of spin-triplet superconducting correlations on the Josephson current has been found in the clean limit. Experimental control of the critical current and $0-π$ transitions by varying the angle between magnetizations is suggested.

Competition between Pi-coupling and FFLO modulation in SF/SF atomic thickness bilayers

We present the detailed theoretical study of a heterostructure comprising of two coupled ferromagnetic superconducting layers. Our model may be also applicable to the layered superconductors with alternating interlayer coupling in a parallel magnetic field. It is demonstrated that such systems exhibit a competition between the nonuniform Larkin-Ovchinnikov-Fulde-Ferrel (FFLO) state and the superconducting state where the sign of the superconducting order parameter is opposite in adjacent layers. We determine the complete temperature-field phase diagram both in the cases of low and strong interlayer coupling. In the former we obtain a new Pi-phase inserted within the FFLO phase and located close to the usual tricritical point, whereas in the latter the bilayer in the state reveals a very high paramagnetic limit and the phenomenon of field-induced superconductivity.

Field induced superconductivity with enhanced and tunable paramagnetic limit

We demonstrate that in a superconducting multilayered system with alternating interlayer coupling a new type of nonuniform superconducting state can be realized under in-plane magnetic field. The Zeeman effect in this state is compensated by the energy splitting between bonding and antibonding levels. Such compensation mechanism at low temperature leads to the field-induced superconductivity. We discuss the conditions for the experimental observation of the predicted phenomena.

Exchange induced ordinary reflection in a single-channel superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor junction

The stationnary Josephson effect in a clean Superconductor-Ferromagnet-Superconductor junction is revisited for arbitrarily large spin polarizations. The quasiclassical calculation of the supercurrent assumes that the Andreev reflection is complete for all channels. However, De Jong and Beenakker have shown that the Andreev reflection at a clean FS interface is incomplete, due to the exchange interaction in the ferromagnet. Taking into account this incomplete Andreev reflection, we investigate the quasiparticle spectrum, the Josephson current and the $0-π$ transition in a ballistic single channel SFS junction. We find that energy gaps open in the phase dependent spectrum. Although the spectrum is strongly modified when the exchange energy increases, the Josephson current and the $0-π$ transition are only weakly affected by the incomplete Andreev reflection, except when the exchange energy is close to the Fermi energy.

Incomplete Andreev reflection in a clean Superconductor/Ferromagnet/Superconductor junction

We study the Josephson effect in a clean Superconductor-Ferromagnet-Superconductor junction for arbitrarily large spin polarizations. The Andreev reflection at a clean Ferromagnet-Superconductor interface is incomplete, and Andreev channels with a large incidence angle are progressively suppressed with increasing exchange energy. As a result, the critical current exhibits oscillations as a function of the exchange energy and of the length of the ferromagnet and has a temperature dependence which deviates from the one predicted by the quasiclassical theory.

Isolated hybrid normal/superconducting ring in a magnetic flux: from persistent current to Josephson current

We investigate the ground state current of an isolated hybrid normal/superconducting ring (NS ring), threaded by an Aharonov-Bohm magnetic flux. We calculate the excitation spectrum of the ring for any values of the lengths of the normal metal and of the superconductor. We describe the nonlinear flux dependence of the energy levels above and below the gap edge. Using a harmonics expansion for the current, we isolate the contribution due to these nonlinearities and we show that it vanishes for large normal segment length. The remaining contribution is very easy to evaluate from the linearized low energy spectrum. This decomposition allows us to recover in a controlled way the current-flux relationships for SNS junctions and for NS rings. We also study the crossover from persistent current to Josephson current in a multichannel NS ring at finite temperature.

Electronic Raman scattering on under-doped Hg-1223 high-Tc superconductors:investigations on the symmetry of the order parameter

In order to obtain high quality, reliable electronic Raman spectra of a high-Tc superconductor compound, we have studied strongly under-doped HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8+d. This choice was made such as to i)minimize oxygen disorder in the Hg-plane generated by oxygen doping ii) avoid the need of phonon background subtraction from the raw data iii)eliminate traces of parasitic phases identified and monitored on the crystal surface. Under these experimental conditions we are able to present the pure electronic Raman response function in the B2g, B1g, A1g+B2g and A1g+B1g channels. The B2g spectrum exhibits a linear frequency dependence at low energy whereas the B1g one shows a cubic-like dependence. The B2g and B1g spectra display two well defined maxima at 5.6kBTc and 9kBTc respectively. In mixed A1g channels an intense electronic peak centered around 6.4 kBTc is observed. The low energy parts of the spectra correspond to the electronic response expected for a pure dx2-y2 gap symmetry and can be fitted up to the gap energy for the B1g channel. However, in the upper parts, the relative position of the B1g and B2g peaks needs expanding the B2g Raman vertex to second order Fermi surface harmonics to fit the data with the dx2-y2 model. The sharper and more intense A1g peak appears to challenge the Coulomb screening efficiency present for this channel. As compared to previous data on more optimally doped, less stoichiometric Hg-1223 compounds, this work reconciles the electronic Raman spectra of under- doped Hg-1223 crystals with the dx2-y2 model, provided that the oxygen doping is not too strong. This apparent extreme sensitivity of the electronic Raman spectra to the low lying excitations induced by oxygen doping in the superconducting state is emphasized here and remains an open question.
