Study of the reactions $\bar{n} p \to 2π^{+}π^{-}$, $2π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}$, and $2π^{+}π^{-}2π^{0}$ using $J/ψ\to p π^{-}\bar{n}$

We report an experimental investigation of the reactions $\bar{n} p \to 2π^{+}π^{-}$, $\bar{n} p \to 2π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}$, and $\bar{n} p \to 2π^{+}π^{-}2π^{0}$ using $(10.087 \pm 0.044) \times 10^{9}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The antineutron ($\bar{n}$) is produced in the decay $J/ψ\to p π^{-} \bar{n}$ with studied momentum from 200~MeV/$c$ to 1174~MeV/$c$, while the target proton originates from the hydrogen nuclei in the cooling oil of the beam pipe. This novel method pioneers the study of $\bar{n}$-nucleon interactions at an $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider, providing the first experimental data for $\bar{n}$ momenta exceeding 800~MeV/$c$.

Identified charged hadron production in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$ = 54.4 GeV with the STAR detector

We present results on the production of $π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, $p$, and $\bar{p}$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$ = 54.4~GeV using the STAR detector at RHIC, at midrapidity ($|y| <$ 0.1). Invariant yields of these particles as a function of transverse momentum are shown. We determine bulk properties such as integrated particle yields ($dN/dy$), mean transverse momentum ($\langle p_{T} \rangle$), particle ratios, which provide insight into the particle production mechanisms. Additionally, the kinetic freezeout parameters ($T_\text{kin}$ and $\langle β_{T} \rangle$), which provide information about the dynamics of the system at the time of freezeout, are obtained. The Bjorken energy density ($ε_{\rm{BJ}}$), which gives an estimate of the energy density in the central rapidity region of the collision zone at the formation time $τ$, is calculated and presented as a function of multiplicity for various energies. The results are compared with those from the models such as A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) and Heavy Ion Jet INteraction Generator (HIJING) for further insights.

Measurement of Born Cross Sections for $e^+e^- \to K^+Ξ^0\barΣ^-$ at $\sqrt{s} = 3.51-4.95$ GeV and Observation of $ψ(3770) \to K^+Ξ^0\barΣ^-$

Using 44.55 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the first measurement of the Born cross sections for the $e^+e^- \to K^+Ξ^0\barΣ^-$ reaction at fifty-six center-of-mass energies between 3.51 and 4.95~GeV. A fit to the dressed cross sections reveals the first observation of the $ψ(3770) \to K^+Ξ^0\barΣ^-$ process, with a statistical significance of 6.0$σ$ including systematic uncertainties. This result represents the first observation of charmless three-body baryonic decay of a vector charmonium state above the open-charm threshold. No significant signals for other charmonium(-like) states i.e., $ψ(4040)$, $ψ(4160)$, $Y(4230)$, $Y(4360)$, $ψ(4415)$, $Y(4500)$, $Y(4660)$ or $Y(4710)$ are observed, and the upper limits for the product of the branching fraction and the electronic partial width at the 90% confidence level for each assumed charmonium(-like) state are provided. Additionally, the ratios of Born cross sections between this work and the previous measurements of $e^+e^- \to K^{0}_{S}\barΞ^{-}Σ^-$ and $K^-\barΞ^+\barΣ^0$ are provided, which can be used to validate theoretical predictions related to isospin symmetry.

Precise Measurement of Matter-Antimatter Asymmetry with Entangled Hyperon Antihyperon Pairs

A search for $CP$ violation with an entangled system of $Ξ^-\barΞ^+$ pairs is performed, using $(10,087\pm44)\times10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII experiment. A nine-dimensional helicity amplitude is used to fit $e^+e^- \to J/ψ\toΞ^-\barΞ^+$ and its subsequent decays. The $Ξ^-$ and $Ξ^+$ decay parameters are determined with higher precision compared to the best results reported so far. Furthermore, the strong phase difference, $(δ_P-δ_S)=(0.3\pm1.2\pm0.2)\times10^{-2}~\text{rad}$, and the weak phase difference, $(ξ_P-ξ_S)=(-0.2\pm1.2\pm0.1)\times10^{-2}~\text{rad}$, are directly determined. These are the most precise measurements to date. The $CP$ asymmetry observables $A_{CP}^Ξ=(-7.8\pm4.8\pm0.8)\times10^{-3}$ and $Δϕ_{CP}^Ξ=(0.6\pm5.1\pm0.2)\times10^{-3}~\text{rad}$ are determined, which are consistent with $CP$ conservation. In addition, independent measurements of the $Λ$ decay parameter and $CP$ asymmetry $A^Λ_{CP}=(-2.9\pm4.3\pm0.7)\times10^{-3}$ are also obtained, which are in agreement with the previous measurements, but with much improved precision.

Observation of $η_c(1S)\to Σ^0\bar Σ^0$ and search for $h_c(1P)\to Σ^0\bar Σ^0$ via $ψ(3686)$ transitions

Using $(2712.4 \pm 14.3) \times 10^6~ψ(3686)$ events collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the hadronic decay $η_{c}\toΣ^{0}\bar{Σ^{0}}$ is observed for the first time via the radiative transition from $ψ(3686)$. It is found that the branching fraction has a significant dependence on the interference pattern between $η_c(1S)$ and non-$η_c(1S)$ processes. They are determined to be $\displaystyle\mathcal{B}(η_c(1S) \to Σ^{0}\bar{Σ^{0}}) = (2.59 \pm 0.14(stat) \pm 0.44(syst)) \times 10^{-3}$ and $(1.18 \pm 0.12(stat) \pm 0.21(syst)) \times 10^{-3}$, for the destructive and constructive interference scenarios, respectively. No significant signal is observed for the decay $h_{c}\toΣ^{0}\bar{Σ^{0}}$ in the hadronic transition $ψ(3686)\toπ^0h_{c}$, and an upper limit on its branching fraction is set to be $1.02\times 10^{-4}$ at the 90\% confidence level.

Cross Section Measurements of $\bar{n}p \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}(π^{0})$ via Antineutrons Produced by $J/ψ\to p π^{-} \bar{n}$ Decays

Based on a novel method for producing antineutrons via $J/ψ$ decays, we report a study of $\bar{n}p$ inelastic scattering into final states containing kaons. The analysis uses $(10087\pm44)\times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected at the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Antineutrons are produced via $J/ψ\to p π^{-} \bar{n}$ decays and tagged by the detected protons and pions, resulting in antineutron momenta ranging from 0 to 1174~MeV/$c$, while target protons are provided by the hydrogen in the beam-pipe material. The flux-averaged cross sections of the reactions $\bar{n}p \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}$ and $\bar{n}p \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$ over this antineutron momentum spectrum are measured to be $0.53^{+0.15}_{-0.12} \pm 0.08$~mb and $1.09^{+0.36}_{-0.30} \pm 0.31$~mb, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Due to limited statistics, the intermediate states in these processes are not quantitatively investigated. The observation of clean antineutron-proton scattering candidates indicates the potential of this approach for future investigations of antineutron-proton interactions.

Measurement of transverse polarization of $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ hyperons inside jets in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV

A surprisingly large transverse polarization of $Λ$ hyperons in unpolarized hadron-nucleon/nucleus collisions has been observed for 50 years, and the origin of this polarization remains an important open question. Recently, theoretical frameworks have advanced in describing this puzzle with the polarizing fragmentation function (PFF). We report the first measurement of $Λ$ and $\overlineΛ$ transverse polarization inside jets in unpolarized proton-proton collisions, which is directly attributed to the PFF. The polarization is measured as a function of the jet transverse momentum, the fraction of the jet momentum carried by $Λ$($\overlineΛ$) hyperons, and the transverse momentum of $Λ(\overlineΛ)$ hyperons relative to the jet axis. Covering a wide jet-energy range, these data provide the first constraints on the gluon PFF and allow tests of TMD evolution and its universality.

Study of $ϕ\to K\bar{K}$ in the amplitude analysis of $D^{+}\to K_{S}^{0}K_{L}^{0}π^{+}$

We present the first amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of $D^{+} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K_{L}^{0}π^{+}$ decay. The analysis uses a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3~$\rm fb^{-1}$, which was recorded at a center-of-mass energy 3.773~GeV by the BESIII detector. The measured branching fraction is $\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K_{L}^{0}π^{+})=(5.780\pm0.085\pm 0.052)\times10^{-3}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Using the known value of ${\cal B}(D^+ \to ϕπ^+,\,ϕ\to K^+K^-)$, we determine the relative branching fraction between $ϕ\to K_{S}^0K_{L}^0$ and $ϕ\to K^+K^-$ to be $\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \to ϕπ^{+}, ϕ\to K_{S}^0K_{L}^0)/\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \to ϕπ^{+}, ϕ\to K^+K^-)= 0.628\pm0.022\pm 0.015\pm0.017$, where the third uncertainty is related to $\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \to ϕπ^{+}, ϕ\to K^+K^-)$. This result is significantly lower than the previous world average and is consistent with the isospin expectation for the $ϕ$ meson's coupling to charged and neutral kaon pairs.

First Measurement of the $D_s^+\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^0μ^+ν_μ$ Decay, Study of Dynamics and Test of Lepton Universality with $D_s^+\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^0\ell^+ν_{\ell}$ Decays

We report the first measurement of the semileptonic decay $D^+_s \rightarrow K^*(892)^0μ^+ν_μ$ and an improved measurement of the decay $D^+_s \rightarrow K^*(892)^0 e^+ν_{e}$ using a sample of $7.33~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 to 4.226~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. We measure the branching fractions to be $\mathcal B({D^+_s\rightarrow K^*(892)^0 μ^+ν_μ})=(2.07\pm0.22_{\rm stat}\pm0.10_{\rm syst})\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal B({D^+_s\rightarrow K^*(892)^0 e^+ν_{e}})=(2.14\pm0.18_{\rm stat}\pm0.10_{\rm syst})\times10^{-3}$. Based on a simultaneous study of the dynamics in two semileptonic decays, the hadronic form factor parameters in the $D^+_s\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^0$ transition are determined to be $r_{V} = V(0)/A_1(0) = 1.63 \pm 0.14_{\rm stat} \pm 0.08_{\rm syst}$, $r_{2} = A_2(0)/A_1(0) = 0.60 \pm 0.13_{\rm stat} \pm 0.06_{\rm syst}$, and $A_1(0)=0.56 \pm 0.02_{\rm stat} \pm 0.01_{\rm syst}$, where $V(0)$ is the vector form factor and $A_{1,2}(0)$ are the axial-vector form factors evaluated at $q^2=0$. The precision of $r_V$ and $r_2$ is improved by twofold and $A_1(0)$ is measured for the first time. We also report the first model-independent measurements of the differential decay rates and the lepton forward-backward asymmetries for $D^+_s\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^0\ell^+ν_{\ell}$ decays. Based on these measurements, we perform a test of lepton flavor universality in full and separate $q^2$ intervals with $D^+_s\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^0\ell^+ν_{\ell}$ decays. No violation is found within uncertainties. Our results present for the first time a complete study of the dynamics in the $D_s^+\rightarrow K^*(892)^0$ transition, and provide stringent tests of various non-perturbative theoretical calculations.

Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of Xi(1530)^{-} to (Xi pi)^{-} and Updated Measurement of the Branching Fraction of psi(3686) to anti-Xi^{+} Xi(1530)^{-} + c.c

Based on (2712.4+-14.3)*10^{6} psi(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, the decays Xi(1530)^{-} to Xi^{0} pi^{-} and Xi(1530)^{-} to Xi^{-} pi^{0} are investigated jointly via the process psi(3686) to anti-Xi^{+} Xi(1530)^{-} + c.c. Under the assumption of isospin symmetry, the two decay modes are treated as fully correlated, and we report the first measurement of their absolute branching fractions. The results are B(Xi(1530)^{-} to Xi^{0} pi^{-})=(61.4+-4.5+-4.6)% and B(Xi(1530)^{-} to Xi^{-} pi^{0}) =(29.7+-2.2+-2.2)%. The combined branching fraction of the two decays is B(Xi(1530)^{-} to (Xi pi)^{-})=(91.1+-6.7+-6.8)%, with uncertainties accounting for the correlations between the two modes. Here, the first uncertainties are statistical, while the second are systematic. Additionally, we update the branching fraction of the decay psi(3686) to anti-Xi^{+} Xi(1530)^{-} + c.c. The updated measurement is B(psi(3686) to anti-Xi^{+} Xi(1530)^{-} + c.c.)=(8.67+-0.52+-0.58+-0.57)*10^{-6}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic related to event selection and the fit model, and the third is associated with the interference effect.

Observation of a Doubly-strange Hyperon $Ξ(1720)$ in $J/ψ\rightarrow{}K^{-}Σ^0\barΞ^{+}+c.c.$

Based on a sample of $(10087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we report the first observation of the decay $J/ψ\rightarrow K^- Σ^0 \barΞ^++c.c.$. A partial wave analysis is performed to investigate the involved excited states. In addition to the well-established $Ξ(1690)$, a new doubly-strange hyperon $Ξ(1720) $ is observed decaying to $K^- Σ^0$ with a mass of $1721.0 \pm 5.2_{\rm stat.} \pm 3.4_{\rm syst.} ~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ and a width of $31.3 \pm 18.3_{\rm stat.} \pm 15.4_{\rm syst.} ~{\rm MeV}$, with a statistical significance exceeding $10σ$. The spin-parity hypothesis testing across various quantum number configurations reveals that the spin-parity of $Ξ(1720)$ favors $J^P = {\frac{3}{2}}^+$. Furthermore, the branching fraction of $J/ψ\rightarrow K^- Σ^0 \barΞ^++c.c.$ is determined to be $(2.68 \pm 0.04_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.17_{\rm syst.}) \times 10^{-5}$.

Probing Late-Stage Hadronic Interactions at High Baryon Density via $K^{*0}$ Production in the RHIC Beam Energy Scan Program

A precision measurement of the $K^{*0}$ meson yield is reported in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 7.7,\; 11.5,\; 14.6,\; 19.6,$ and $27~\mathrm{GeV}$ using the high-statistics data sample collected by the STAR experiment during the Beam Energy Scan II (BES-II) program at RHIC. The transeverse momentum ($p_{T}$)-integrated yield ratios $(K^{*0} + \overline{K^{*0}})/(K^{+} + K^{-})$ in central collisions show a suppression relative to peripheral collisions at the $(1.7\text{-}3.6)\,σ$ level, while a thermal model without final-stage rescattering overpredicts this ratio with a deviation of $(6.9\text{-}8.2)\,σ$. These results indicate a loss of the measured $K^{*0}$ signal in central collisions due to re-scattering of its hadronic decay products in the hadronic phase. The $p_{T}$-integrated yield of charged kaons exhibits an approximate scaling with charged-particle multiplicity, independent of collision energy and system size. A similar trend is observed for the short-lived $K^{*0}$ resonance, although significant deviations emerge at lower energies. At BES energies, the $K^{*0}/K$ ratio shows stronger suppression than at the highest RHIC and LHC energies within a given multiplicity bin, particularly in central and mid-central collisions. This behavior is consistent with changes in the effective hadronic interaction cross section and is supported by transport model calculations, which indicate dominant meson-baryon interactions at lower energies and meson-meson interactions at higher energies.

Amplitude Analysis of the Isospin-Violating Decay $J/ψ\rightarrowγηπ^{0}$

Using $(10\,087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the process $J/ψ\toγηπ^0$. The decay is dominated by the intermediate processes $J/ψ\toπ^0 b_1(1235)^0 \toγηπ^0$, $J/ψ\toπ^{0}ρ(1450)^0 \toγηπ^0$ and $J/ψ\toηh_1(1170) \toγηπ^0$. Contributions from $J/ψ\toγa_0(980)^0\toγηπ^0$, $J/ψ\toγa_2(1320)^0\toγηπ^0$ and $J/ψ\toγa_2(1700)^0\toγηπ^0$ are observed with a statistical significance exceeding $5σ$, constituting the first observation of radiative transitions of $J/ψ$ to isospin-triplet scalar mesons. The total branching fraction of $J/ψ\toγηπ^0$ is measured to be $(25.7\pm0.3\pm1.5)\times 10^{-6}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result is consistent with the previous measurement, with the precision improved by more than a factor of two.

Search for the decays $X(3872)\to K_{S}^{0}K^{\pm}π^{\mp}$ and $K^*(892)\bar{K}$ at BESIII

Using a 10.9 fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies from 4.16 to 4.34 GeV, we search for the charmless decays $X(3872) \to K_{S}^{0}K^{\pm}π^{\mp}$ and $K^*(892)\bar{K}$, where the $X(3872)$ is produced via the radiative process $e^+e^- \to γX(3872)$. No significant signal is observed. We set upper limits on the relative branching fractions $\mathcal{B}[X(3872)\to K_S K^{\pm} π^{\mp}]/\mathcal{B}[X(3872)\toπ^+π^- J/ψ] <0.07$ and $\mathcal{B}[X(3872)\to K^* (892)\bar{K}]/\mathcal{B}[X(3872)\to π^+π^- J/ψ] <0.10$ at the 90$\%$ confidence level. Additionally, upper limits on the product of the cross section $σ[e^+e^-\toγX(3872)]$ and the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}[X(3872)\to K_{S}^{0}K^{\pm}π^{\mp}]$ and $\mathcal{B}[X(3872)\to K^*(892)\bar{K}]$ are reported at each energy point. In all cases, $K^*(892)\bar{K}$ refers to the sum of the modes $K^*(892)^+K^{-}+\text{c.c.}$ and $K^*(892)^0\bar{K}^0+\text{c.c.}$, where c.c. denotes the corresponding charge-conjugate modes.

Fault volume digital twin to reproduce the full slip spectrum, scaling and statistical laws

Seismological and geodetic observations of fault zones reveal diverse slip dynamics, scaling, and statistical laws. Existing mechanisms explain some but not all of these behaviors. We show that incorporating an off-fault damage zone-characterized by distributed fractures surrounding a main fault-can reproduce many key features observed in seismic and geodetic data. We model a 2D shear fault zone in which off-fault cracks follow power-law size and density distributions, and are oriented either optimally or parallel to the main fault. All fractures follow rate-and-state friction with parameters enabling slip instabilities. We do not introduce spatial heterogeneities in frictional properties. Using quasi-dynamic boundary integral simulations accelerated by hierarchical matrices, we simulate slip dynamics and analyze events produced both on and off the main fault. Despite spatially uniform frictional properties, we observe a natural continuum from slow to fast ruptures, as seen in nature. Our simulations reproduce the Omori law, inverse Omori law, Gutenberg-Richter scaling, and moment-duration scaling. We observe seismicity localizing toward the main fault before nucleation of main-fault events. During slow slip events, off-fault seismicity migrates in patterns resembling fluid diffusion fronts, despite the absence of fluids. We show that tremors, Very Low Frequency Earthquakes, Low Frequency Earthquakes, Slow Slip Events, and earthquakes can all emerge naturally within this fault volume framework, making it an ideal digital twin for testing hypotheses, performing ground-truth inversions, and probing mechanical properties inaccessible with natural observations.

First Observation of \boldmath{$D^+ \to a_0(980)ρ$ and $D^+ \to a_0(980)^+ f_0(500)$} in \boldmath{$D^+ \to π^+π^+π^-η$ and $D^+ \to π^+π^0π^0η$} Decays

We perform the first amplitude analysis of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^+ \to π^+ π^{+(0)} π^{-(0)} η$, using $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773\,GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$. The absolute branching fractions of the $D^+ \to π^+ π^+ π^- η$ and $D^+ \to π^+ π^0 π^0 η$ decays are measured to be $(3.20\pm0.06_{\text{stat.}}\pm0.03_{\text{syst.}})\times 10^{-3}$ and $(2.43 \pm 0.11_{\text{stat.}} \pm 0.04_{\text{syst.}}) \times 10^{-3}$, respectively. % , both achieving three times better precision than the current PDG values. The decay process $D^{+}\to a_0(980)^{+}f_0(500)$ is observed for the first time with an unexpectedly large branching fraction. Moreover, we observe the decays $D^+ \to a_0(980)^{+(0)} ρ(770)^{0(+)}$ and measure the ratio $r_{+/0} \equiv \frac{\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to a_0(980)^+ ρ(770)^0)}{\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to a_0(980)^0 ρ(770)^+)}$ for the first time to be $0.55\pm0.08_{\text{stat.}}\pm0.05_{\text{syst.}}$. Observation of $\barΛp\to K^{+}π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}$ and $\barΛp\to K^{+}π^{+}π^{-}2π^{0}$

Using $(10087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=3.097$ GeV, the antihyperon-nucleon annihilation processes $\barΛ p \to K^+ π^+ π^- + kπ^0$ ($k=1,2,3$) are studied at an incident $\barΛ$ momentum of approximately 1.074 GeV/$c$. The reactions $\barΛ p \to K^+ π^+ π^- π^0$ and $\barΛ p \to K^+ π^+ π^- 2π^0$ are observed for the first time, with corresponding cross sections $σ_{\barΛ p \to K^+ π^+ π^- π^0} = 8.5^{+1.2}_{-1.1} (\rm{stat.}) \pm 0.4 (\rm {syst.})$ mb and $σ_{\barΛ p \to K^+ π^+ π^- 2π^0} = 7.9^{+1.9}_{-1.7} \pm 0.4$ mb. No significant signal is found for $\barΛ p \to K^+ π^+ π^- 3π^0$, and an upper limit of 7.2 mb is set at a 90\% confidence level. An evidence for the $K^{*}(892)^+$ resonance is seen in the $K^+π^0$ invariant mass spectrum $M_{K^+π^0}$ for $k=1$, and the corresponding cross section for $\barΛ p \to K^{*}(892)^+ π^+ π^-$ is measured to be $σ_{\barΛ p \to K^{*}(892)^+ π^+ π^-} = 12.5^{+3.8}_{-3.4} \pm 1.2$ mb. Owing to the limited statistics, possible interference effects are not considered. These findings offer crucial input to deepen our understanding of the antihyperon-nucleon interactions.
