On quantum traversability of wormholes

In this paper we study the possibility of non-relativistic quantum particles to traverse the generalized Ellis-Bronnikov wormholes by considering quantum effects, such as tunneling. We have used the generalized Ellis-Bronnikov wormhole metric and found that for $n=2$ we have a single barrier shaped effective potential centered at the throat of the wormhole for any value of orbital angular momentum. For $n\neq2$ we have a symmetric double barrier shaped potential when the orbital angular momentum is zero and a single barrier for nonzero angular orbital momentum. Analytical solutions for the Schrödinger equation in the generalized Ellis-Bronnikov spacetime could be found only for $n=2$. Such solutions were given in terms of the confluent Heun functions. Finally, by using a delta-barrier approximation we could find the transmission and reflection coefficients for a non-relativistic particle to traverse the generalized Ellis-Bronnikov wormhole.

Non-minimal coupling of fermion to the torsion in the modified teleparallel braneworld

We study a spin 1/2 fermion in a teleparallel f(T) domain-wall thick braneworld. By assuming a non-minimal coupling of fermion to the torsion, a geometric alternative to the Yukawa coupling is found. The torsion parameters control the width of the massless Kaluza-Klein mode and the properties of the analogue quantum-potential near the origin. The non-normalized massive fermionic modes are also analyzed.

Dirac equation on a catenoid bridge: a supersymmetric approach

In this paper, we study the Dirac equation for an electron constrained to move on a catenoid surface. We decoupled the two components of the spinor and obtained two Klein-Gordon-like equations. Analytical solutions were obtained using supersymmetric quantum mechanics for two cases, namely, the constant Fermi velocity and the position-dependent Fermi velocity cases.

Braneworlds in $f(Q)$ gravity

We propose a braneworld scenario in a modified symmetric teleparallel gravitational theory, where the dynamics for the gravitational field is encoded in the nonmetricity tensor rather than in the curvature. Assuming a single real scalar field with a sine-Gordon self-interaction, the generalized quadratic nonmetricity invariant $\mathbb{Q}$ controls the brane width while keeping the shape of the energy density. By considering power corrections of the invariant $\mathbb{Q}$ in the gravitational Lagrangian, the sine-Gordon potential is modified exhibiting new barriers and false vacuum. As a result, the domain wall brane obtains an inner structure, and it undergoes a splitting process. In addition, we also propose a non-minimal coupling between a bulk fermion field and the nonmetricity invariant $\mathbb{Q}$. Such geometric coupling leads to a massless chiral fermion bound to the 3-brane and a stable tower of non-localized massive states.

Torsion braneworlds in a tensor-vector gravity

We study the properties of gravity and bulk fields living in a torsion warped braneworld. The torsion is driven by a background vector whose norm provides a source for the bulk cosmological constant. For a vector as the derivative of a scalar field, we find new isotropic and anisotropic thick brane geometries. We analyse the features of bosonic and fermionic fields in this isotropic and in standing wave scenarios. The background vector provides nonminimal coupling between the field and the geometry leading to modifications in the Kaluza-Klein states. The spinor connection is modified by the torsion and a derivative Yukawa-like coupling is proposed. The effects of these new couplings are investigated.

The bumblebee field excitations in a cosmological braneworld

We investigated the effects of the spacetime curvature and extra dimensions on the excitations of a self-interacting vector field known as the bumblebee field. The self-interacting quadratic potential breaks the gauge invariance and the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the bumblebee field $b_M$ violates the local particle Lorentz symmetry. By assuming the bumblebee field living in a $AdS_{5}$ bulk, we found an exponential suppression of the self-interacting constant $λ$ and the bumblebee VEV along the extra dimension. The fluctuations of the bumblebee upon the VEV can be decomposed into transverse and longitudinal modes with respect to $b_{M}$. Despite the curvature, the transverse mode acquires massive Kaluza-Klein towers, while the longitudinal mode acquires LV mass $λb^{2}$. On the other hand, the current conservation law prevents massive Kaluza-Klein modes for the longitudinal mode. For a spacelike $b_{M}$ along the extra dimension and assuming a FRW 3-brane embedded in the $AdS_{5}$ yields to an additional dissipative term to the longitudinal mode. The cosmological expansion leads to decay of the longitudinal mode in a time $Δt \approx H^{-1}$, where $H=\dot{a}/a$ is the Hubble parameter and $a(t)$ is the scale factor. For a timelike $b_{M}$, the longitudinal mode does not propagate on the brane and its amplitude decays in time with $a^{-3}$ and in the extra dimension with $z^{-λb^{2}l^{2}}$.

First-order formalism for thick branes in $f(T,\mathcal{T})$ gravity

In this paper, we study the thick brane scenario constructed in the recently proposed $f(T,\mathcal{T})$ theories of gravity, where $T$ is called the torsion scalar, and $\mathcal{T}$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. We use the first-order formalism to find analytical solutions for models that include a scalar field as a source. In particular, we describe two interesting cases in which, in the first, we obtain a double-kink solution, which generates a splitting in the brane. In the second case, proper management of a kink solution obtained generates a splitting in the brane intensified by the torsion parameter, evinced by the energy density components satisfying the weak and strong energy conditions. In addition, we investigate the behavior of the gravitational perturbations in this scenario. The parameters that control the torsion and the trace of the energy-momentum tensor tend to shift the massive modes to the core of the brane, keeping a gapless non-localizable and stable tower of massive modes and producing more localized massless modes.

Teleparallel gravity: Effects of torsion in 6D braneworlds

Braneworld models are interesting theoretical and phenomenological frameworks to search for new physics beyond the standard model of particles and cosmology. In this work, we discuss braneworld models whose gravitational dynamics are governed by teleparallel $f(T)$ gravities. Here, we emphasize a codimension two axisymmetric model, also known as a string-like brane. Likewise, in the 5D domain-walls models, the $f(T)$ gravitational modification leads to a phase transition on the perfect fluid source providing a brane-splitting mechanism. Furthermore, the torsion changes the gravitational perturbations. The torsion produces new potential wells inside the brane core leading to a massless mode more localized around the ring structures. In addition, the torsion keeps a gapless non-localizable and a stable tower of massive modes in the bulk.

Position-dependent mass effects on a bilayer graphene catenoid bridge

We study the electronic properties of a position-dependent effective mass electron on a bilayer graphene catenoid bridge. We propose a position-dependent mass (PDM) as a function of both gaussian and mean curvature. The hamiltonian exhibits parity and time-reversal steaming from the bridge symmetry. The effective potential contains the da Costa, centrifugal and PDM terms which are concentrated around the catenoid bridge. For zero angular momentum states, the PDM term provides a transition between a reflectionless to a double-well potential. As a result, the bound states undergo a transition from a single state around the bridge throat into two states each one located at rings around the bridge. Above some critical value of the PDM coupling constant, the degeneracy is restored due to double-well tunneling resonance.

Fermion localization in braneworld teleparallel f(T,B) gravity

We study a spin 1/2 fermion in a thick braneworld in the context of teleparallel $f(T, B)$ gravity. Here, $f(T,B)$ is such that $f_1(T,B)=T+k_1B^{n_1}$ and $f_2(T,B)=B+k_2T^{n_2}$, where $n_{1,2}$ and $k_{1,2}$ are parameters that control the influence of torsion and the boundary term. We assume Yukawa coupling, where one scalar field is coupled to a Dirac spinor field. We show how the $n_{1,2}$ and $k_{1,2}$ parameters control the width of the massless Kaluza-Klein mode, the breadth of non-normalized massive fermionic modes, and the properties of the analogue quantum-potential near the origin.

Thick brane in f(T,B) gravity

In this paper, we explore the five-dimensional f(T,B) teleparallel modified gravity with f_1(T,B)=T+k_1B^{n_1} and f_2(T,B)=B+k_2T^{n_2} in the brane scenario. Asymptotically, the bulk geometry converges to an AdS_5 spacetime whose cosmological constant is produced by parameters that control torsion and boundary term. The analysis of the energy density condition reveals a splitting brane process satisfying the weak and strong energy conditions for some values of the parameters n_{1,2} and k_{1,2}. In addition, we investigate the behavior of the gravitational perturbations in this scenario. In the bulk, the torsion keeps a gapless non-localizable, and stable tower of massive modes. Inside the brane core, the torsion produces new barriers and potential wells, leading to small amplitude massive modes and a massless mode localized for some values of the parameters n_{1,2} and k_{1,2}.

Traversable wormhole solution with a background Kalb-Ramond field

We obtain a static spherically symmetric wormhole solution due to the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of a Kalb-Ramond field. The Kalb-Ramond VEV is a background tensor field which produces a local Lorentz symmetry breaking (LSB) of spacetime. Considering a non-minimal coupling between the Kalb-Ramond (VEV) and the Ricci tensor, we found an exact traversable wormhole solution sustained by matter sources with a negative isotropic pressure. The matter source satisfies the energy conditions at the throat for particular choices of the LSB parameter. Moreover, we employ the Gauss-Bonnet method to analyze the deflection angle of light in the weak limit approximation.

A field theory in Randers-Finsler spacetime

Finsler geometry is a natural arena to investigate the physics of spacetimes with local Lorentz violating. The directional dependence of the Finsler metric provides a way to encode the Lorentz violating effects into the geometric structure of spacetime. Here, a classical field theory is proposed in a special Finsler geometry, the so-called Randers-Finsler spacetime, where the Lorentz violation is produced by a background vector field. By promoting the Randers-Finsler metric to a differential operator, a Finsler-invariant action for the scalar, gauge and fermions are proposed. The theory contains nonlocal terms, as in the Very Special Relativity based theories. By expanding the Lagrangian, minimal and nonminimal Standard Model Extension terms arises, revealing a perturbative Lorentz violation. For a CPT-even term, the Carrol-Field-Jackiw and derivative extensions are obtained.

Electronic properties of a nanotorus

In this paper we study the properties of an electron trapped on a torus surface. We consider the influence of surface curvature on the spectrum and the behaviour of the wave function. In addition, the effects of external electric and magnetic fields were explored. Two toroid configurations were considered, namely, a torus-like configuration and a ring-like configuration both in agreement with experimental data. We also obtain the bound states and discuss the role of geometry on the Landau levels.

Thick string-like braneworlds in f(T) gravity

We propose a codimension two warped braneworld model within the teleparallel $f(T)$ gravity. By assuming a global vortex as the source, we found a $l=0$ vortex solution that yields to a thick string-like brane. Asymptotically, the bulk geometry converges to an $AdS_6$ spacetime whose cosmological constant is produced by the torsion parameters. Furthermore, the torsion induces an $AdS-dS$ transition on the exterior region. Inside the brane core, the torsion produces an internal structure even for a single complex scalar field. As the torsion parameters vary, the brane undergoes a phase transition leading to the formation of ring-like structures. The bulk-brane Planck mass ration is modified by the torsion. The analysis of the stress energy condition reveals a splitting brane process satisfying the weak and strong energy conditions for some values of the parameters. In addition, we investigate the behaviour of the gravitational perturbations in this scenario. It turns out that the gravitational spectrum has a linear behaviour for small masses and is independent of the torsion parameters for large masses. In the bulk, the torsion keeps a gapless non-localizable and stable tower of massive modes. Inside the brane core the torsion produces new barriers and potential wells leading to small amplitude massive modes and a massless mode localized around the ring structures.

Dual equivalence between self-dual and topologically massive $B\wedge F$ models coupled to matter in $3+1$ dimensions

In this work, we revisit the duality between a self-dual non-gauge invariant theory and a topological massive theory in $3+1$ dimensions. The self-dual Lagrangian is composed by a vector field and an antisymmetric field tensor whereas the topological massive Lagrangian is build using a $B \wedge F$ term. Though the Lagrangians are quite different, they yield to equations of motion that are connected by a simple dual mapping among the fields. We discuss this duality by analyzing the degrees of freedom in both theories and comparing their propagating modes at the classical level. Moreover, we employ the master action method to obtain a fundamental Lagrangian that interpolates between these two theories and makes evident the role of the topological $B \wedge F$ term in the duality relation. By coupling these theories with matter fields, we show that the duality holds provided a Thirring-like term is included. In addition, we use the master action in order to probe the duality upon the quantized fields. We carried out a functional integration of the fields and compared the resulting effective Lagrangians.

Modified black hole solution with a background Kalb-Ramond field

We study the gravitation effects on a static and spherically symmetric spacetime due to the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of a Kalb-Ramond field. The Kalb-Ramond VEV is a background tensor field which produces a local Lorentz symmetry breaking (LSB) of spacetime. Considering a non-minimal coupling between the Kalb-Ramond (VEV) and the Ricci tensor, we obtain an exact parameter-dependent power-law modified black hole. For a particular choice of the LSB parameter, the Lorentz violation produces a solution similar to the Reissner-Nordstrom, despite the absence of charge. The near-horizon geometry is modified by including a new inner horizon and shifting the Schwarzschild horizon. Asymptotically, the usual Minkowski spacetime with a background tensor field is recovered. The vacuum configurations are studied considering the energy conditions and the Lorentz violating source properties. By means of the mercury perihelion test, an upper bound to the local Lorentz violation (LV) is obtained, and its corresponding effects on the black hole temperature is investigated.

Electronic properties of bilayer graphene catenoid bridge

We study the properties of an electron on a catenoid surface. The catenoid is understood as a realization of a bridge connecting two graphene layer by a smooth surface. The curvature induces a symmetrical reflectionless potential well around the bridge with one bound-state for $m=0$. For $m\neq 0$, a centrifugal potential barrier arises controlling the tunnelling between the layers. An external electric field breaks the parity symmetry and provides a barrier that controls the conductance from one layer to another. By applying a constant magnetic field the effective potential exhibits a confining double-well potential nearby the bridge. We obtain the corresponding bound states and study the effects of the curvature on the Landau levels.
