Black string solutions in Lifshitz spacetime

In this paper we study black string solutions considering the Lifshitz anisotropic scaling. We have shown that a new class of asymptotically Lifshitz solutions can be generated by an Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theory with a cosmological constant. In the limit where we recover conformal scale invariance, we retrieve the usual black string solution. Furthermore, we demonstrated that to incorporate the effects of electric charge in the black string, at least two independent gauge fields coupled to the dilaton field are necessary. The charged black string solution exhibits new horizons that depend on the potential in Lifshitz exponent $z$. The stability of these new solutions is investigated through the thermodynamic analysis of the charged black string. The temperature, entropy, and heat capacity indicate that these modified black strings are thermodynamically stable.

Massless fermions in black string spacetime

In this paper we investigate the behaviour of massless fermions in the black string spacetime by computing the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Weyl equations. These solutions allowed us to study the behaviour of such massless fermions in terms of the cosmological constant, the black string's mass and the radial distance of the particle from the black string. The solutions, written in terms of Parabolic Cylinder functions and Laguerre polynomials, were obtained for a particle far from the black string and around the horizon event. For the particle around the event horizon, for all configuration of parameters, the energy eigenvalues are complex-valued, indicating QNM similarly to the case of spherical black holes. For the particle far from the black string, the energies derived from the Weyl equation set up conditions on the parameters in order to keep the energy as a real valued parameter.

Thermodynamical properties of an ideal gas in a traversable wormhole

In this work, we analyze the thermodynamic properties of non--interacting particles under influence of the gravitational field of a traversable wormhole. In particular, we investigate how the thermodynamic quantities are affected by the Ellis wormhole geometry, considering three different regions to our study: asymptotically far, close to the throat, and at the throat. The thermodynamic quantities turn out to depend strongly on parameter that controls the wormhole throat radius. By varying it, there exist an expressive modification in the thermodynamic state quantities, exhibiting both usual matter and dark energy--like behaviors. Finally, the interactions are regarded to the energy density and it seems to indicate that it "cures" the dark energy--like features.

Thermal analysis of photon-like particles in rainbow gravity

This work is devoted to study the thermodynamic behavior of photon--like particles within the \textit{rainbow} gravity formalism. To to do this, we chose two particular ansatzs to accomplish our calculations. First, we consider a dispersion relation which avoids UV divergences, getting a positive effective cosmological constant. We provide \textit{numerical} analysis for the thermodynamic functions of the system and bounds are estimated. Furthermore, a phase transition is also expected for this model. Second, we consider a dispersion relation employed in the context of \textit{Gamma Ray Bursts}. Remarkably, for this latter case, the thermodynamic properties are calculated in an \textit{analytical} manner and they turn out to depend on the harmonic series $H_{n}$, gamma $Γ(z)$, polygamma $ψ_{n}(z)$ and zeta Riemann functions $ζ(z)$.

Electronic states in a quantum Beltrami surface

In this paper, we investigate the influence of the geometry in the electronic states of a quantum Beltrami surface. We have considered an electron governed by the spinless stationary Schrödinger equation constrained to move on the Beltrami surface due to a confining potential from which the Da Costa potential emerges. We investigate the role played by the geometry and orbital angular momentum on the electronic states of the system.

Lorentz-violating extension of scalar QED at finite temperature

In this work, we calculate the one-loop self-energy corrections to the gauge field in scalar electrodynamics modified by Lorentz-violating terms within the framework of the standard model extension (SME). We focus on both $CPT$-even and $CPT$-odd contributions. The kinetic part of the scalar sector contains a $CPT$-even symmetric Lorentz-breaking tensor, and the interaction terms include a vector contracted with the usual covariant derivative in a gauge-invariant manner. We computed the one-loop radiative corrections using dimensional regularization for both the $CPT$-even and $CPT$-odd cases. Additionally, we employed the Matsubara formalism to account for finite temperature effects.

On aether terms in a space-time with a compact extra dimension

In this paper, we explicitly calculate the aether-like corrections for the electromagnetic field in the case when the space-time involves an extra compact spatial dimension besides of usual four dimensions. Our methodology is based on an explicit summation over the Kaluza-Klein tower of fields which turns out to be no more difficult than the finite-temperature calculations. We found some new terms which can be treated as certain five-dimensional generalizations of the aether-like terms $κ^{mnpq}F_{mn}F_{pq}$ and $\barψc^{mn}γ_m\partial_nψ$ which in four dimensions are treated as important ingredients of the Lorentz-breaking extension of the standard model. We have shown that these new terms become to dominate in the limit where the extra dimension is very small, allowing us to suggest that there will be essential modifications of quantum corrections if our space indeed has a small extra spatial dimension. Moreover, we have shown that in the CPT-even case we have extra new particles as a consequence of the extra dimension.

New regular 2+1 black hole solutions from bilocal gravity

We obtain new regular black hole solutions for an action in 2+1 dimensions with bilocal Ricci scalar and negative cosmological constant. Besides their connection to the cosmological constant, these solutions depend on a fundamental length due to their non-local nature. The effective profile densities that result from the non-local geometries have quasi-localized mass/energy since they are finite at the origin and their integration in all space is convergent. The black holes obtained are free of singularities and present one, two, or none horizons depending on the values of the involved parameters. The new solutions can have either an AdS, dS, or even a flat core. In the case of a de-Sitter core, it could represent a repulsive force coming from quantum effects. Although the resulting (effective) cosmological constant is positive near the origin, the classical (naked) counterpart is still negative thus precluding a cosmological horizon. We investigate the energy conditions of the effective source and determine the region where exotic energy should be found. Thermodynamic quantities are also computed. On the one hand, Gibbs's potential shows that both solutions are globally unstable, as in the BTZ case. On the other, we show that for small values of the horizon radius the Hawking temperature is negatively divergent but a finite size remnant can be defined where $T_H$ crosses zero. At this point, the heat capacity sign changes from negative to positive, indicating that the black holes are locally stable while irradiating. Thus, such a quantity, along with $T_H$, presents crucial differences with the BTZ black hole for small horizon radii where quantum effects become relevant. Finally, we analyze the bilocal black hole geodesics and find stable circular orbits for massless and massive particles, another feature absent in the BTZ case.

Casimir effect in a Lorentz-violating tensor extension of a scalar field theory

This paper investigates the Casimir Energy modifications due to the Lorentz-violating CPT-even contribution in an extension of the scalar QED. We have considered the complex scalar field satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions between two parallel plates separated by a small distance. An appropriate tensor parametrization allowed us to study the Casimir effect in three setups: isotropic, anisotropic parity-odd, and anisotropic parity-even. We have shown that the Lorentz-violating contributions promote increased Casimir energy for both the isotropic and anisotropic parity-odd configurations. However, in the parity-even case, the Lorentz-violating terms can promote either an increase or a decrease in the Casimir energy. We have shown that both the increased and decreased amounts in the Casimir energy depend on the momentum projection over the Lorentz-violating vectors.

One-loop calculations in Lorentz-breaking theories and proper-time method

We discuss applications of the proper-time method in various minimal Lorentz violating modifications of QED and present new results obtained with its use. Explicitly. we calculate the complete one-loop Heisenberg-Euler effective action involving all orders in $F_{mn}$, for two of the most studied minimal Lorentz-violating extensions of QED, the one characterized by the axial vector $b^m$ and the one involving the second-rank constant tensor $c^{mn}$.

Black String solutions in Rainbow Gravity

In this paper we study black string solutions under the consideration of rainbow gravity. We have analytically obtained the solution for four-dimensional black strings in terms of the functions $f(E/E_p)$ and $g(E/E_p)$ that sets the energy scale where the rainbow gravity becomes relevant. We have also obtained the Hawking temperature for the black string, from which we could see that the rainbow functions play the role of increasing or decreasing the Hawking temperature for a given horizon radius depending on the choice of such rainbow functions. We have computed the entropy, specific heat and free energy for the black string. The entropy and specific heat exhibit a rainbow dependence, while the free energy is not modified by the rainbow functions. Finally we have studied the effects of the rainbow gravity in the orbits of massive and massless particles around a black string. We could verify that neither massive nor massless particles exhibit stable orbits around a black string in the scenario of rainbow gravity, for any configuration of rainbow functions.

Generalized Ellis-Bronnikov wormholes in asymptotically safe gravity

In this paper we study a class of wormhole solutions called generalized Ellis-Bronnikov wormholes in the context of asymptotically safe gravity (ASG). These solutions are characterized by two parameters: an even number $n$ and the wormhole throat radius $r_t$. The particular case $n=2$ recovers the usual Ellis-Bronnikov spacetime, which has already been addressed in the literature. We analyzed the nature of matter in the wormhole's throat, and in nearby regions, of these generalized solutions with $n>2$, using three curvature scalars in the ASG approach, namely, the Ricci scalar, squared Ricci and the Kretschmann scalar. We have shown that the ASG leads to corrections in the matter at the wormhole's throat only for the $n=4$ case. For the squared Ricci and the Kretschmann we find that exotic matter is always necessary, as previously found for the usual Ellis-Bronnikov. However, for the Ricci scalar case, we found that ordinary matter is allowed at the throat. Therefore, the generalized Ellis-Bronnikov wormhole provides to the possibility of having ordinary matter at the throat in the context of asymptotically safe gravity.

BTZ Black-bounce to Traversable Wormhole

In this paper, we study the charged and uncharged BTZ counterpart of the Black-Bounce proposed by Simpson and Visser recently. For the uncharged case, we find that the temperature is not modified by the bounce parameter. We also find that the wormhole side of the solution must always be supported by exotic matter over the throat. For the charged case we find that the thermodynamics is changed and the bounce parameter controls a phase transition, affecting the sign of the heat capacity and therefore the stability of the system. For the uncharged case, we find that there are no stable orbits for both massive and massless incoming particles while stable orbits are present for the charged case and the bounce parameter affects the points of stability.

Black string bounce to traversable wormhole

In this work, a regular black string solution will be presented from the method used by Simpson-Visser to regularize the Schwarzschild solution. As in the Simpson-Visser work, in this new black string solution, it is possible to represent both a regular black hole and a wormhole just by changing the value of a parameter "$a$" used in its metric. Tensors and curvature invariants were analyzed to verify the regularity of the solution, as well as the energy conditions of the system. It was found that the null energy condition will always be violated for the entire space. The analysis of the thermodynamic properties of the regular black string was also carried out, in which the modifications generated about the original solution of the black string, were evaluated, specifically, the Hawking temperature, entropy, its thermal capacity, and the Helmholtz free energy. Finally, we investigate the possible stable or unstable circular orbits for photons and massive particles. The results were compared with those of the non-regular black string, seeking to make a parallel with the Simpson-Visser work.

Scalar particles around a Rindler-Schwarzschild wormhole

In this paper, we study quantum relativistic features of a scalar field around the Rindler-Schwarzschild wormhole. First, we introduce this new class of spacetime, investigating some energy conditions and verifying their violation in a region nearby the wormhole throat, which means that the object has to have an exotic energy in order to prevent its collapse. Then, we study the behavior of the massless scalar field in this spacetime and compute the effective potential by means of tortoise coordinates. We show that such a potential is attractive nearby the wormhole throat and that is traversable via quantum tunneling by massive particles with sufficiently low energies. The solution of the Klein-Gordon equation is obtained subsequently, showing that the energy spectrum of the field is subject to a constraint which induces a decreasing oscillatory behavior. On imposing Dirichlet boundary conditions on a spherical shell nearby the throat we then determine the particle energy levels, and we use this spectrum to calculate the quantum revival of the eigenstates. Finally, we compute the Casimir energy associated with the massless scalar field at zero temperature. We perform this calculation by means of the sum of modes method. The zero-point energy is regularized using the Epstein-Hurwitz zeta-function. We also obtain an analytical expression for the Casimir force acting on the shell.

Horizon Fractalization in Black Strings Ungravity

In this paper we study the scalar(tensor) and vector unparticle corrections for cosmic and black strings. Initially we have considered an static cosmic string ansatz from which we obtain the solution in terms of first and second kind Bessel functions. We have also obtained the solution for black string in the unparticle scenario. We could identify two regimes, namely, a gravity dominated regime and an ungravity dominated regime. In the gravity dominated regime the black string solution recovers the usual solution for black strings. The Hawking temperature was also studied in both regimes and in the ungravity dominated regime. As in the static and rotating black hole, we found a fractalization of the event horizon. This points to the fact that fractalization is a natural consequence of unparticles. Finally, we study the thermodynamic of the black string in the ungravity scenario by computing the entropy, heat capacity and free energy. For both cases we find that, depending on the region of the parameter $d_U$, we can have phase transitions.

Generalized Ellis-Bronnikov graphene wormhole

In this paper, we investigate the spinless stationary Schrödinger equation for the electron when it is permanently bound to a generalized Ellis-Bronnikov graphene wormhole-like surface. The curvature gives rise to a geometric potential affecting thus the electronic dynamics. The geometry of the wormhole's shape is controlled by the parameter $n$ which assumes even values. We discuss the role played by the parameter $n$ and the orbital angular momentum on bound states and probability density for the electron.

Relativistic Bose-Einstein condensate in the rainbow gravity

In this paper, we study the effects of a modified theory of gravity - the rainbow gravity - on the relativistic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). We initially discuss some formal aspects of the model in order to compute the corrections to the relevant quantities of the condensate. Following, we evaluate the generating functional from which obtain some thermodynamic parameters. Then we calculate the corrected critical temperature $T_c$ that sets the relativistic Bose-Einstein condensate considering the three principal rainbow functions, finding, in addition, a phenomenological upper bound for the parameters involved in the model. Finally, we discuss how harder is for the particles at an arbitrary temperature $T<T_c$ to enter the condensed state compared to the usual scenario, {\it i.e.}, without rainbow gravity.
