Genetic algorithms with permutation-based representation for computing the distance of linear codes

Finding the minimum distance of linear codes is an NP-hard problem. Traditionally, this computation has been addressed by means of the design of algorithms that find, by a clever exhaustive search, a linear combination of some generating matrix rows that provides a codeword with minimum weight. Therefore, as the dimension of the code or the size of the underlying finite field increase, so it does exponentially the run time. In this work, we prove that, given a generating matrix, there exists a column permutation which leads to a reduced row echelon form containing a row whose weight is the code distance. This result enables the use of permutations as representation scheme, in contrast to the usual discrete representation, which makes the search of the optimum polynomial time dependent from the base field. In particular, we have implemented genetic and CHC algorithms using this representation as a proof of concept. Experimental results have been carried out employing codes over fields with two and eight elements, which suggests that evolutionary algorithms with our proposed permutation encoding are competitive with regard to existing methods in the literature. As a by-product, we have found and amended some inaccuracies in the MAGMA Computational Algebra System concerning the stored distances of some linear codes.

Primitive idempotents in central simple algebras over $\mathbb{F}_q(t)$ with an application to coding theory

We consider the algorithmic problem of computing a primitive idempotent of a central simple algebra over the field of rational functions over a finite field. The algebra is given by a set of structure constants. The problem is reduced to the computation of a division algebra Brauer equivalent to the central simple algebra. This division algebra is constructed as a cyclic algebra, once the Hasse invariants have been computed. We give an application to skew constacyclic convolutional codes.

Some exact sequences associated with adjunctions in bicategories. Applications

We prove that the classical result asserting that the relative Picard group of a faithfully flat extension of commutative rings is isomorphic to the first Amitsur cohomology group stills valid in the realm of symmetric monoidal categories. To this end, we built some group exact sequences from an adjunction in a bicategory, which are of independent interest. As a particular byproduct of the evolving theory, we prove a version of Hilbert's theorem 90 for cocommutatvie coalgebra coextensions (=surjective homomorphisms).

Invertible unital bimodules over rings with local units, and related exact sequences of groups II

Let $R$ be a ring with a set of local units, and a homomorphism of groups $\underlineΘ : \G \to \Picar{R}$ to the Picard group of $R$. We study under which conditions $\underlineΘ$ is determined by a factor map, and, henceforth, it defines a generalized crossed product with a same set of local units. Given a ring extension $R \subseteq S$ with the same set of local units and assuming that $\underlineΘ$ is induced by a homomorphism of groups $\G \to \Inv{R}{S}$ to the group of all invertible $R$-sub-bimodules of $S$, then we construct an analogue of the Chase-Harrison-Rosenberg seven terms exact sequence of groups attached to the triple $(R \subseteq S, \underlineΘ)$, which involves the first, the second and the third cohomology groups of $\G$ with coefficients in the group of all $R$-bilinear automorphisms of $R$. Our approach generalizes the works by Kanzaki and Miyashita in the unital case.

Corings with decomposition and semiperfect corings

We give a characterization, in terms of Galois infinite comatrix corings, of the corings that decompose as a direct sum of left comodules which are finitely generated as left modules. Then we show that the associated rational functor is exact. This is the case of a right semiperfect coring which is locally projective and whose Galois comodule is a projective left unital module with superfluous radical.

Coinduction functor and simple comodules

Consider a coring with exact rational functor, and a finitely generated and projective right comodule. We construct a functor (\emph{coinduction functor}) which is right adjoint to the hom-functor represented by this comodule. Using the coinduction functor, we establish a bijective map between the set of representative classes of torsion simple right comodules and the set of representative classes of simple right modules over the endomorphism ring. A detailed application to a group-graded modules is also given.

A bicategorical version of Masuoka's theorem. Applications to bimodules over functor categories and to firm bimodules

We give a bicategorical version of the main result of A. Masuoka ({Corings and invertible bimodules,} {\em Tsukuba J. Math.} \textbf{13} (1989), 353--362) which proposes a non-commutative version of the fact that for a faithfully flat extension of commutative rings $R \subseteq S$, the relative Picard group $Pic(S/R)$ is isomorphic to the Amitsur 1--cohomology group $H^1(S/R,U)$ with coefficients in the units functor $U$.

Corings with exact rational functors and injective objects

We describe how some aspects of abstract localization on module categories have applications to the study of injective comodules over some special types of corings. We specialize the general results to the case of Doi-Koppinen modules, generalizing previous results in this setting.

Comonads and Galois corings

We investigate which aspects of recent developments on Galois corings and comodules admit a formulation in terms of comonads. This approach hopefully will permit of focusing in what is specific in each particular future situation, having some relevant general results for granted. The general theory is applied to the study of comodules over corings over firm rings.
