Modified attractive inverse-square potential in the induced electric dipole system

We examine the spatial distribution of electric charges within an extended, non-conductive cylinder featuring an inner radius denoted as $r_{0}$. Our investigation unveils the emergence of a distinct modified attractive-inverse square potential, arising from the intricate interplay between the electric field and the induced electric dipole moment of a neutral particle. This modified potential notably departs from the conventional inverse-square potential, showcasing an additional term proportional to $r^{-1}$. As a result, we present compelling evidence for the realization of a discrete energy spectrum within this intricate system.

On the attractive inverse-square potential in the induced electric dipole system under the influence of the harmonic oscillator

We obtain the analytical solutions to the Schrödinger equation for the attractive inverse-square potential in an induced electric dipole moment system under the influence of the harmonic oscillator. We show that bound states can exist when the electric field configuration brings a cut-off point that imposes a forbidden region for the neutral particle. Then, by dealing with $s$-waves, we obtain the energy eigenvalues in the strong electric field regime and for small values of the angular frequency of the harmonic oscillator. Further, we extend our discussion about the energy eigenvalues beyond the $s$-waves.

Conductance Peak Density in Disordered Graphene Topological Insulators

We investigate the universal properties of quantum transport in graphene nanowires that engender subtle universal conductance fluctuations. We present results for three of the main microscopic models that describe the sublattice of graphene and generate, as we shall show, all the chiral universal symmetries. The results are robust and demonstrate the widely sought sign of chirality even in the regime of many open channels. The fingerprints paves the way to distinguish systems with sublattice symmetry such as topological insulators from ordinary ones by an order of magnitude. The experimental realization requires a single measurement of the chaotic fluctuations of the associated valleytronics conductante. Through the phase coherence length, our theoretical predictions are confirmed with the data from traditional measurements in the literature concerning quantum magnetotransport.

Spin Hall angle fluctuations in a disorder device

We investigate a disorderly mesoscopic device that supports spin-orbit interaction. The systemis connected to four semi-infinite leads embedded in the Landauer-Buttiker setup for quantumtransport and, according to our analysis, exhibits spin Hall angle fluctuations. We show analyticallyand numerically the fingerprint of the universal fluctuation of the polarization mediated by theconversion of charge current into spin current. Our investigation shows the complete compatibilityof our analytical and numerical results with the most recent experiments. Furthermore, we shownonzero and universal features of spin Hall effect in Rashba 2DEG with disorder. All the resultsshow the relevance of microscopic parameters for electronic transport with charge-spin conversionand, in many cases, inevitably lead to universal numbers.

Klein Paradox in Chaotic Dirac Billiards

We investigate the Schrödinger (non-relativistic) and the Dirac (``relativistic") billiards in the universal regime. The study is based on a non-ideal quantum resonant scattering numerical simulation. We show universal results that reveal anomalous behavior on the conductance, on the shot-noise power and on the respective eigenvalues distributions. In particular, we demonstrate the Klein's paradox in the graphene and tunable suppression/amplification transitions on the typical observables of the quantum dots.

Conductance Peak Density in Nanowires

We present a complete numerical calculation and an experimental data analysis of the universal conductance fluctuations in quasi-one-dimension nanowires. The conductance peak density model, introduced in nanodevice research on [Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 176807 (2011)], is applied successfully to obtain the coherence length of InAs nanowire magnetoconductance and we prove its equivalence with correlation methods. We show the efficiency of the method and therefore a prominent alternative to obtain the phase-coherence length. The peak density model can be similarly applied to spintronic setups, graphene and topological isolator where phase-coherence length is a relevant experimental parameter.

Universal Fluctuations and Coherence Lengths in Chaotic Mesoscopic Systems and Nuclei

We discuss the phenomenon of universal fluctuations in mesoscopic systems and nuclei. For this purpose we use Random Matrix Theory (RMT). The statistical $S$-matrix is used to obtain the physical observables in the case of Quantum Dots, both the Schrödinger and the Dirac types. To obtain analytical results, we use the Stub model. In all cases we concentrate our attention on the average density of maxima in the fluctuating observables, such as the electronic conductance. The case of neutron capture by a variety of nuclei at thermal energies is also considered. Here the average density of maxima in the cross section vs. the mass number is analysed and traced to astrophysical conditions.

Tunable ${\cal χ/PT}$ Symmetry in Noisy Graphene

We investigate the resonant regime of a mesoscopic cavity made of graphene or a doped beam splitter. Using Non-Hermitian Quantum Mechanics, we consider the Bender-Boettcher assumption that a system must obey parity and time reversal symmetry. Therefore, we describe such system by coupling chirality, parity and time reversal symmetries through the scattering matrix formalism and apply it in the shot noise functions, also derived here. Finally we show how to achieve the resonant regime only by setting properly the parameters concerning the chirality and the PT symmetry.

Spin-to-Charge Conversion in 2D Electron Gas and Single-layer Graphene Devices

We investigate the spin-to-charge conversion emerging from a mesoscopic device connected to multiple terminals. We obtain analytical expressions to the characteristic coefficient of spin-to-charge conversion which are applied in two kinds of ballistic chaotic quantum dots at low temperature. We perform analytical diagrammatic calculations in the universal regime for two-dimensional electron gas and single-layer graphene with strong spin-orbit interaction in the universal regime. Furthermore, our analytical results are confirmed by numerical simulations. Finally, we connect our analytical finds to recent experimental measures giving a conceptual explanation about the apparent discrepancies between them.

Hamming distance and mobility behavior in generalized rock-paper-scissors models

This work reports on two related investigations of stochastic simulations which are widely used to study biodiversity and other related issues. We first deal with the behavior of the Hamming distance under the increase of the number of species and the size of the lattice, and then investigate how the mobility of the species contributes to jeopardize biodiversity. The investigations are based on the standard rules of reproduction, mobility and predation or competition, which are described by specific rules, guided by generalization of the rock-paper-scissors game, valid in the case of three species. The results on the Hamming distance indicate that it engenders universal behavior, independently of the number of species and the size of the square lattice. The results on the mobility confirm the prediction that it may destroy diversity, if it is increased to higher and higher values.

Entanglement Distribution Statistic in Andreev Billiards

We investigate statistical aspects of the entanglement production for open chaotic mesoscopic billiards in contact with superconducting parts, known as Andreev billiards. The complete distributions of concurrence and entanglement of formation are obtained by using the Altland-Zirnbauer symmetry classes of circular ensembles of scattering matrices, which complements previous studies in chaotic universal billiards belonging to other classes of random matrix theory. Our results show a unique and very peculiar behavior: the realization of entanglement in a Andreev billiard always results in non-separable state, regardless of the time reversal symmetry. The analytical calculations are supported by a numerical Monte Carlo simulation.

Apex predator and the cyclic competition in a rock-paper-scissors game of three species

This work deals with the effects of an apex predator on the cyclic competition among three distinct species that follow the rules of the rock-paper-scissors game. The investigation develops standard stochastic simulations but is motivated by a novel procedure which is explained in the work. We add the apex predator as the fourth species in the system that contains three species that evolve following the standard rules of migration, reproduction and predation, and study how the system evolves in this new environment, in comparison with the case in the absence of the apex predator. The results show that the apex predator engenders the tendency to spread uniformly in the lattice, contributing to destroy the spiral patterns, keeping biodiversity but diminishing the average size of the clusters of the species that compete cyclically.

A novel procedure for the identification of chaos in complex biological systems

We demonstrate the presence of chaos in stochastic simulations that are widely used to study biodiversity in nature. The investigation deals with a set of three distinct species that evolve according to the standard rules of mobility, reproduction and predation, with predation following the cyclic rules of the popular rock, paper and scissors game. The study uncovers the possibility to distinguish between time evolutions that start from slightly different initial states, guided by the Hamming distance which heuristically unveils the chaotic behavior. The finding opens up a quantitative approach that relates the correlation length to the average density of maxima of a typical species, and an ensemble of stochastic simulations is implemented to support the procedure. The main result of the work shows how a single and simple experimental realization that counts the density of maxima associated with the chaotic evolution of the species serves to infer its correlation length. We use the result to investigate others distinct complex systems, one dealing with a set of differential equations that can be used to model a diversity of natural and artificial chaotic systems, and another one, focusing on the ocean water level.

Parity and Time Reversal Symmetry in Hanbury Brown-Twiss Effect

The current manuscript employs the parity and time reversal symmetry in the Hanbury Brown-Twiss experiment. For this purpose, we develop a general scattering matrix framework founded on the concatenation of many individual compounded scattering processes on the setup. In this way, we derive the general scattering matrix of a parity and time reversal symmetric Hanbury Brown-Twiss experiment (HBT-PT). Within such scattering formulation, we propose a theoretical framework which provides how to measure the symmetry of the system through the correlation function of a pair of particles transmitted through the leads. The correlation function naturally reveal the quantum statistics of both bosons and fermions and demonstrate a very preponderant role of PT symmetry on the HBT experiment. We indicate the formation of both quantum and classical universal Turing machine depending on controllable parameters of the apparatus.

Topological strength of magnetic skyrmions

We deal with magnetic structures that attain integer and half-integer skyrmion numbers. We model and solve the problem analytically, and show how the solutions appear in materials that engender distinct, very specific physical properties, and use them to describe their topological features. In particular, we found a way to model skyrmion with a large transition region correlated with the presence of a two-peak skyrmion number density. Moreover, we run into the issue concerning the topological strength of a vortex-like structure and suggest an experimental realization, important to decide how to modify and measure the topological strength of the magnetic structure.

Time-Reversal Symmetry Breaking and Decoherence in Chaotic Dirac Billiards

In this work, we perform a statistical study on Dirac Billiards in the extreme quantum limit (a single open channel on the leads). Our numerical analysis uses a large ensemble of random matrices and demonstrates the preponderant role of dephasing mechanisms in such chaotic billiards. Physical implementations of these billiards range from quantum dots of graphene to topological insulators structures. We show, in particular, that the role of finite crossover fields between the universal symmetries quickly leaves the conductance to the asymptotic limit of unitary ensembles. Furthermore, we show that the dephasing mechanisms strikingly lead Dirac billiards from the extreme quantum regime to the semiclassical Gaussian regime.

Universal Spin Hall Conductance Fluctuations in Chaotic Dirac Quantum Dots

We present complete analytical and numerical results that demonstrate the anomalous universal fluctuations of the spin-Hall conductance in chiral materials such as graphene and topological insulators. We investigated both the corresponding fluctuations, the Universal Fractionated and the Universal Quantized, and also the open channels orbital number crossover between the two regimes. In particular, we show that the Wigner-Dyson symmetries does not properly describe such conductances and the preponderant role of the chiral classes on the Dirac quantum dots. The results are analytical and solve outstanding issues.

Correlation functions and correlation widths in Quantum-Chaotic Scattering for mesoscopic systems and nuclei

We derive analytical expressions for the correlation functions of the electronic conductance fluctuations of an open quantum dot under several conditions. Both the variation of energy and that of an external parameter such as an applied perpendicular or parallel magnetic fields are considered in the general case of partial openness.. These expressions are then used to obtain the ensemble averaged density of maxima, a measure recently suggested to contain invaluable information concerning the chaoticity of the system. The correlation width is then calculated for the case of energy variation and a significant deviation from the Weisskopf estimate is found in the case of two terminals. The results are extended to more than two terminals. All our results are analytical. The use of these results in other fields, such as nuclei, where the system can only be studied through a variation of the energy, is then discussed.
