RooHammerModel: interfacing the HAMMER software tool with the HistFactory package

Recent $B$-physics results have sparkled great interest in the search for beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics in $b\to c\ell \barν$ transitions. The need to analyse in a consistent manner big datasets for these searches, using high-statistics Monte-Carlo (MC) samples, led to the development of HAMMER, a software tool which enables to perform a fast morphing of MC-derived templates to include BSM effects and/or alternative parameterisations of long-distance effects, avoiding the need to re-generate simulated samples. This paper describes the development of RooHammerModel, an interface between this tool and the commonly-used data-fitting frameworks HistFactory and RooFit. In this document, the structure and functionality of the user interface are explained. Information of a public repository where it can be accessed is provided, as well as validation and performance studies of the interface. The methods developed in the construction of RooHammerModel can provide useful information for alternative future attempts to interface HAMMER with other data-fitting frameworks.

Report on the ECFA Early-Career Researchers Debate on the 2020 European Strategy Update for Particle Physics

A group of Early-Career Researchers (ECRs) has been given a mandate from the European Committee for Future Accelerators (ECFA) to debate the topics of the current European Strategy Update (ESU) for Particle Physics and to summarise the outcome in a brief document [1]. A full-day debate with 180 delegates was held at CERN, followed by a survey collecting quantitative input. During the debate, the ECRs discussed future colliders in terms of the physics prospects, their implications for accelerator and detector technology as well as computing and software. The discussion was organised into several topic areas. From these areas two common themes were particularly highlighted by the ECRs: sociological and human aspects; and issues of the environmental impact and sustainability of our research.

Ipanema-β: tools and examples for HEP analysis on GPU

We present here a set of examples, classes and tools which can be used for statistical analysis in Graphics Processing Units (GPU). This includes binned and unbinned maximum likelihood fits, pseudo-experiment generation, convolutions, Markov Chain Monte Carlo method implementations, and limit setting techniques.
