Complementary Probes of Two-component Dark Matter

We study a $Z_2 \times Z'_2$ symmetric 3-Higgs Doublet Model (3HDM), wherein two of the doublets are inert and one is active (thus denoted in literature as I(2+1)HDM), yielding a two-component Dark Matter (DM) sector. The two DM candidates emerge as the lightest scalar component of a different inert doublet, each with a different odd discrete parity, and cooperate to achieve the correct relic density. When a sufficient mass difference exists between the two DM candidates, it is possible to test the presence of both in present and/or forthcoming facilities, as the corresponding masses are typically at the electroweak scale. Specifically, the light DM component can be probed by the nuclear recoil energy in direct detection experiments while the heavy DM component appears through the photon flux in indirect detection experiments. In fact, the DM mass sensitivity that the two experimental set-ups can achieve should be adequate to establish the presence of two different DM signals. This result has been obtained in the presence of a thorough theoretical analysis of the stability conditions of the vacuum structure emerging from our I(2+1)HDM construct, ensuring that the model configurations adopted are physical, and of up-to-date constraints coming from data collected by both space and ground experiments, ensuring that the coupling and mass spectra investigated are viable phenomenologically.

Charged Higgs boson production via $cb-$fusion at the Large Hadron Collider

We analyse the production of a light charged Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) via the quark-fusion mechanism $c \bar{b} \to H^- $ considering the decay channel $H^- \to τ\bar ν_τ$ in the final state. We study this process in the framework of the 2-Higgs Doublet Model Type III (2HDM-III) which assumes a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential, wherein the two Higgs doublets coupling to both up and down fermions do generate Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNCs) yet the latter can be controlled by the texture when flavour physics constraints are considered. We consider the parameter space of the model where this signal is enhanced and in agreement with both theoretical constraints and experimental data. In particular, we exploit the setup with lepton-specific-like Yukawa couplings and assess the LHC sensitivity to such $H^\pm$ signals against the dominant {irreducible and} reducible backgrounds. We show that in our model BR$(H^\pm \to cb) \sim 0.1- 0.2$ and BR$(H^\pm \to τν) \sim 0.7-0.9$ so that, under these conditions, the prospects for $H^\pm$ detection in the 2HDM-III in the aforementioned production and decay channels are excellent assuming standard collider energy and luminosity conditions.

Collider signatures of dark CP-violation

We study an extension of the Standard Model (SM) in which two copies of the SM-Higgs doublet which do not acquire a vacuum expectation value, and hence are {\it inert}, are added to the scalar sector. The lightest particle from the inert sector, which is protected from decaying to SM particles through the conservation of a $Z_2$ symmetry, is a viable dark matter candidate. We allow for CP-violation in this extended dark sector and evaluate the $ZZZ$ vertex and its CP-violating form factor in several benchmark scenarios. We provide collider signatures of this dark CP-violation in the form of potentially observable asymmetries and cross sections for the $f\bar f\to Z^*\to ZZ$ process at both leptonic and hadronic machines.

Prospects for discovering a light charged Higgs boson within the NMSSM at the FCC-eh collider

We analyze the prospects of observing relatively light charged Higgs bosons ($h^{\pm}$) in their decays via $h^{-} \to s \bar c + s \bar u$ at the upcoming Future Circular Collider in hadron-electron mode (FCC-eh) with $\sqrt s \approx 3.5$ TeV. Assuming that the intermediate Higgs boson ($h_2$) is Standard Model (SM)-like, we study the production of $e^- b \to ν_e h^{-} b$ (also $b$ could be $\bar b$ in both initial and final states) in the framework of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM). We consider constraints from Dark Matter (DM), super-particle and the Higgs boson data. The charged Higgs boson decays into light flavors leads to a three-jets with missing transverse energy signal with one $b$-tagged jet. Our results show that light charged Higgs bosons with mass close to, e.g., 114(121) GeV have the maximal significance of 3.2(1.8)$σ$, upon using normal cut based selections and after 1 ab$^{-1}$ of luminosity. However, we further adopt an optimization technique to enhance the latter to 4.4 (2.2)$σ$, respectively.

Dark Matter Signals at the LHC from a 3HDM

We analyse new signals of Dark Matter (DM) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in a 3-Higgs Doublet Model (3HDM) where only one doublet acquires a Vacuum Expectation Value (VEV), preserving a parity $Z_2$. The other two doublets are \textit{inert} and do not develop a VEV, leading to a {\it dark scalar sector} controlled by $Z_2$, with the lightest CP-even dark scalar $H_1$ being the DM candidate. This leads to the loop induced decay of the next-to-lightest scalar, $H_2 \to H_1 f \bar f$ ($f=u,d,c,s,b,e,μ,τ$), mediated by both dark CP-odd and charged scalars. This is a smoking-gun signal of the 3HDM since it is not allowed in the 2HDM with one inert doublet and is expected to be important when $H_2$ and $H_1$ are close in mass. In practice, this signature can be observed in the cascade decay of the SM-like Higgs boson, $h\to H_1 H_2\to H_1 H_1 f \bar f$ into two DM particles and di-leptons/di-jets, where $h$ is produced from either gluon-gluon Fusion (ggF) or Vector Boson Fusion (VBF). However, this signal competes with the tree-level channel $q\bar q\to H_1H_1Z^*\to H_1H_1f \bar f$. We devise some benchmarks, compliant with collider, DM and cosmological data, for which the interplay between these modes is discussed. In particular, we show that the resulting detector signature, $\Et\; f \bar f$, with invariant mass of $ f \bar f$ much smaller than $m_Z$, can potentially be extracted already during Run 2 and 3. For example, the $H_2\to H_1γ^*$ and $γ^*\to e^+e^-$ case will give a spectacular QED mono-shower signal.

Prospects for charged Higgs searches at the LHC

The goal of this report is to summarize the current situation and discuss possible search strategies for charged scalars, in non-supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model at the LHC. Such scalars appear in Multi-Higgs-Doublet models (MHDM), in particular in the popular Two-Higgs-Doublet model (2HDM), allowing for charged and additional neutral Higgs bosons. These models have the attractive property that electroweak precision observables are automatically in agreement with the Standard Model at the tree level. For the most popular version of this framework, Model~II, a discovery of a charged Higgs boson remains challenging, since the parameter space is becoming very constrained, and the QCD background is very high. We also briefly comment on models with dark matter which constrain the corresponding charged scalars that occur in these models. The stakes of a possible discovery of an extended scalar sector are very high, and these searches should be pursued in all conceivable channels, at the LHC and at future colliders.

Flavor violating signatures of neutral Higgs bosons at the LHeC

We analyze the prospect for observing the lightest and heaviest CP-even neutral Higgs bosons ($ϕ=h,\;H$) in their decays to flavor violating $b\bar{s}$ (with charge conjugate) final states at the future Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC), in the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Model type III (2HDM-III) assuming a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential. We consider the charge current production processes $e^- p \to ν_e ϕq_f$ ($ϕ= h, \; H$), with the flavor violating decays of the Higgs bosons. We consider scenarios of the model which are consistent with current experimental data from flavor and Higgs physics. We also consider the most relevant Standard Model (SM) backgrounds. We find that the lightest (SM-like) CP-even Higgs boson $h$ and the heaviest one $ H$ (with mass up to 150 GeV) would have 1--2 $Σ$ and 1 $Σ$ significances, respectively, with 100 fb$^{-1}$ of data. At the end of the LHeC running, the significances would be increased by ten times and the detection of both Higgs bosons ($h, H$) would be guaranteed.

Decays $h\to γγ, \, γZ$ in the Two Higgs Doublet Model Type III

We study the enhancement of the branching ratios of the decays $h \to γγ, \, γZ$ in the Two Higgs Doublet Model Type III, assuming a four-zero Yukawa Texture and a general Higgs potential. We show that these processes are very sensitive to the flavor pattern of the Yukawa texture and the structure of the triple coupling $h H^\pm H^\mp$ from the Higgs potential. We can accomodate the parameters of the model such that one can obtain the $h \toγγ$ rates reported by the LHC and at the same time we can get a $ h \to γZ$ fraction larger than in the SM and within experimental reach. The possibility of obtaining a light charged Higgs boson within the ensuing parameter space and compatible with current experimental measurements is also presented.

$H^\pm\to cb$ in models with two or more Higgs doublets

Searches for light $H^\pm$s via $t\to H^\pm b$ are being carried out at the LHC. Herein, it is normally assumed that the dominant decay channels are $H^\pm\to τν$ and $H^\pm\to cs$ and separate data analyses are performed with comparable sensitivity to the underlying model assumptions. However, the $H^\pm\to cb$ decay rate can be as large as $80\%$ in models with two or more Higgs doublets with natural flavour conservation, while satisfying the constraint from $b\to sγ$ for $m_{H^\pm}< m_t$. Despite the current search strategy for $H^\pm\to cs$ is also sensitive to $H^\pm\to cb$, a significant gain in sensitivity could be obtained by tagging the $b$ quark from the decay $H^\pm\to cb$.

Impact of a four-zero Yukawa texture on $h\to γγ$ and $γZ$ in the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Model Type III

We study the substantial enhancement, with respect to the corresponding Standard Model rates, that can be obtained for the branching ratios of the decay channels $h \to γγ$ and $h\to γZ$ within the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Model Type III, assuming a four-zero Yukawa texture and a general Higgs potential. We show that these processes are very sensitive to the flavor pattern entering the Yukawa texture and to the triple coupling structure of the Higgs potential, both of which impact onto the aforementioned decays. We can accommodate the parameters of the model in such a way to obtain the $h \to γγ$ rates reported by the Large Hadron Collider and at the same time we get a $h\to γZ$ fraction much larger than in the Standard Model, indeed within experimental reach. We present some scenarios where this phenomenology is realized for spectrum configurations that are consistent with current constraints. We also discuss the possibility of obtaining a light charged Higgs boson compatible with all such measurements, thereby serving the purpose of providing a hallmark signal of the scenario considered.

Flavor Physics constrains on a $\mathbb{Z}_5$-3HDM

We present the general behavior of the scalar sector in a Three Higgs Doublet Model (3HDM) with a $\mathbb{Z}_5$ flavor symmetry. There are regions of the parameters space where it is possible to get a SM-like Higgs boson with the other Higgs bosons being heavier, thus decoupled from the SM, and without relevant contributions to any flavor observables. There are however other more interesting regions of parameter space with a light charged Higgs ($m_{H^\pm} \sim $ 150 GeV) that are consistent with experimental results and whose phenomenological consequences could be interesting. We present a numerical analysis of the main $B$-physics constraints and show that the model can correctly describe the current experimental data.

Update of the 2HDM-III with a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and phenomenology of the charged Higgs Boson

We update the flavor-violating constraints on the charged Higgs sector of the 2-Higgs Doublet Model Type-III (2HDM-III), using a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices. We give a generic Lagrangian of the 2HDM-III. In order to show the relevance of the off-diagonal terms of such a texture, we utilize the main constraints from $B$-physics, $μ-e$ universality in $τ$ decays and the radiative decay $Z\to b \bar{b}$ presented recently in arXiv:1212.6818 [hep-ph]. In particular, we show that the $H^- c \bar{b}$ coupling can be very large and very different with respect to 2HDMs with a flavor discrete symmetry (i.e., ${\mathcal{Z}}_2$). We also discuss the possible enhancements of the vertices $H^\pm W^\mp V$ ($V=Z, γ$) that arise at one-loop level.

Light charged Higgs bosons decaying to charm and bottom quarks in models with two or more Higgs doublets

Searches for light charged Higgs bosons (H^\pm) in the decay of top quarks, t -> H^\pm b, are being carried out at the LHC and at the Tevatron. It is assumed that the dominant decay channels for such an H^\pm state are either H^\pm -> τνor H^\pm -> cs, and separate searches are performed with comparable sensitivity to the parameters m_{H^\pm} and tanbeta of the scalar potential. The branching ratio for the decay H^\pm -> cb can be as large as 80% in the Aligned Two Higgs Doublet Model and in models with three or more Higgs doublets with natural flavour conservation, while satisfying the constraint from b -> s gamma for m_{H^\pm} < m_t. Although the current search strategy for H^\pm -> cs is also sensitive to H^\pm -> cb, a considerable gain in sensitivity could be obtained by tagging the b quark from the decay H^\pm -> cb. Such an analysis, which could be readily performed at the Tevatron and in the 7 TeV and 8 TeV runs of the LHC, would probe a parameter space of the fermionic couplings of H^\pm in the above models which at present cannot be probed by experimental observables in flavour physics.

Implications of the discovery of a Higgs triplet on electroweak right-handed neutrinos

Electroweak scale active right-handed neutrinos such as those proposed in a recent model necessitate the enlargement of the SM Higgs sector to include Higgs triplets with doubly charged scalars. The search for and constraints on such Higgs sector has implications not only on the nature of the electroweak symmetry breaking but also on the possibility of testing the seesaw mechanism at colliders such as the LHC and the ILC.

Charged Higgs boson phenomenology in Supersymmetric models with Higgs triplets

We present a detailed study of the Higgs sector within an extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model that includes one Complex Higgs Triplet (MSSM+1CHT). The model spectrum includes three singly charged Higgs bosons as well as three CP-even (or scalar) and two CP-odd (or pseudoscalar) neutral Higgs bosons. We present an approximated calculation of the one-loop radiative corrections to the neutral CP-even Higgs masses ($m_{H_i^0}$) and the couplings $H_i^0 Z^0 Z^0$ ($i=1$, 2, 3), which determine the magnitude of the Higgs-strahlung processes $e^+ e^-\to Z^0 H^0_i$. Limits from LEP2 are then considered, in order to obtain bounds on the neutral Higgs sector. Further, we also include the experimental limits from LEP2 on $e^+e^-\to H^+H^-$ and those on BR($t \to b H^+$) from Tevatron, to derive bounds on the mass of the two lightest charged Higgs bosons ($H_1^{\pm}$ and $H_2^{\pm}$). Concerning the latter, we find some cases, where $m_{H_1^{\pm}} \simeq 90$ GeV, that are not excluded by any experimental bound, even for large values of $\tanβ$, so that they should be looked for at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

Fundamental and composite scalars from extra dimensions

We discuss a scenario consisting of an effective 4D theory containing fundamental and composite fields. The strong dynamics sector responsible for the compositeness is assumed to be of extra dimensional origin. In the 4D effective theory the SM fermion and gauge fields are taken as fundamental fields. The scalar sector of the theory resembles a bosonic topcolor in the sense there are two scalar Higgs fields, a composite scalar field and a fundamental gauge-Higgs unification scalar. A detailed analysis of the scalar spectrum is presented in order to explore the parameter space consistent with experiment. It is found that, under the model assumptions, the acceptable parameter space is quite constrained. As a part of our phenomenological study of the model, we evaluate the branching ratio of the lightest Higgs boson and find that our model predicts a large FCNC mode h -> tc, which can be as large as O(10^{-3}). Similarly, a large BR for the top FCNC decay is obtained, namely B.R.(t -> c + H) \simeq 10^{-4}

CP-odd static electromagnetic properties of the W gauge boson and the t quark via the anomalous tbW coupling

In the framework of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian, the one-loop induced effects of the anomalous $tbW$ coupling, which includes both left- and right-handed complex components, on the static electromagnetic properties of the $W$ boson and the $t$ quark are studied. The attention is focused mainly on the CP-violating electromagnetic properties. It is found that the $tbW$ anomalous coupling can induce both CP-violating moments of the $W$ boson, namely, its electric dipole ($\tildeμ_W$) and magnetic quadrupole ($\tilde{Q}_W$) moments. As far as the $t$ quark is concerned, a potentially large electric dipole moment $(d_t)$ can arise due to the anomalous $tbW$ coupling. The most recent bounds on the left- and right-handed parameters from $B$ meson physics lead to the following estimates $\tildeμ_W ~ 10^{-23}-10^{-22}$ e-cm and $\tilde{Q}_W~ 10^{-38}-10^{-37}$ e-cm$^2$, which are 7 and 14 orders of magnitude larger than the standard model (SM) predictions, whereas $d_t$ may be as large as $10^{-22}$ e-cm, which is about 8 orders of magnitude larger than its SM counterpart.
