Current dependence of the huge negative magnetoresistance in high-mobility two-dimensional electron gases

In high-mobility two-dimensional electron gases Landau levels are already formed at very small magnetic field values. Such two-dimensional electron gases show a huge negative magnetoresistance at low temperatures and an unexpected and very strong non-linear behavior with the applied current. This non-linearity depends on carrier concentration and is explained by the subtle interplay of elastic scattering within Landau levels and in between Landau levels.

Hysteretic behavior in weakly coupled double-dot transport in the spin blockade regime

Double quantum dot systems in the spin blockade regime exhibit leakage currents that have been attributed to the Hyperfine interaction. We model weakly coupled double-dot transport using a rate equation approach which accounts for Hyperfine flip-flop transitions. The rate equations allow us to obtain self-consistently the time evolution for electronic charge occupations and for the nuclei polarizations in each dot. We analyze the current in the spin blockade region as a function of magnetic field and observe hysteretic behavior for fields corresponding to the crossing between triplet and singlet states.

From zero resistance states to absolute negative conductivity in microwave irradiated 2D electron systems

Recent experimental results regarding a 2D electron gas subjected to microwave radiation reveal that magnetoresistivity, apart from presenting oscillations and zero resistance states, can evolve to negative values at minima. In other words, the current can evolve from flowing with no dissipation, to flow in the opposite direction of the dc bias applied. Here we present a theoretical model in which the existence of radiation-induced absolute negative conductivity is analyzed. Our model explains the transition from zero resistance states to absolute negative conductivity in terms of multiphoton assisted electron scattering due to charged impurities. It shows as well, how this transition can be driven by tuning microwave frequency and intensity. Then it opens the possibility of controlling the electron Larmor orbits dynamics (magnetoconductivity) in microwave driven nanodevices. The analysis of zero resistance states is therefore promising because new optical and transport properties in nanodevices will be expected.

Coherent resonant tunneling in ac fields

We have analyzed the tunneling transmission probability and electronic current density through resonant heterostructures in the presence of an external electromagnetic field. In this work, we compare two different models for a double barrier : In the first case the effect of the external field is taken into account by spatially dependent AC voltages and in the second one the electromagnetic field is described in terms of a photon field that irradiates homogeneously the whole sample. While in the first description the tunneling takes place mainly through photo sidebands in the case of homogeneous illumination the main effective tunneling channels correspond to the coupling between different electronic states due to photon absorption and emission. The difference of tunneling mechanisms between these configurations is strongly reflected in the transmission and current density which present very different features in both cases. In order to analyze these effects we have obtained, within the Transfer Hamiltonian framework, a general expression for the transition probability for coherent resonant tunneling in terms of the Green's function of the system.

Coherent and sequential photoassisted tunneling through a semiconductor double barrier structure

We have studied the problem of coherent and sequential tunneling through a double barrier structure, assisted by light considered to be present All over the structure, i,e emitter, well and collector as in the experimental evidence. By means of a canonical transformation and in the framework of the time dependent perturbation theory, we have calculated the transmission coefficient and the electronic resonant current. Our calculations have been compared with experimental results turning out to be in good agreement. Also the effect on the coherent tunneling of a magnetic field parallel to the current in the presence of light, has been considered.
