Electromagnetism in Quark-Antiquark Bound States

Non-perturbative proof is presented of a unique version of Goldstone theorem, that electromagnetism contributes to the masses of spinless particles of quark-antiquark bound states in the form of a commutator of the quark electric matrix and a coefficient factor which may be expressed simply in terms of a three-body Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, in the case where the Lagrangian conserves an approximate $SU(3)$ chiral symmetry. The coupled Bethe-Salpeter equation and Dyson-Schwinger equation in the ladder-rainbow approximation are layed out with every ingredient renormalized, which are applied to the problem of evaluating the mass differences of some charged and neutral pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The numerical results yield satisfactory agreement with experimental observations for the mass spectrum and meson decay constants. Estimates of the light quark masses are also given in the Bethe-Salpeter formalism.

Dynamical study of the light scalar mesons below 1 GeV in a flux-tube model

The light scalar mesons below 1 GeV as tetraquark states are studied in the framework of the flux-tube model, the multi-body confinement instead of the additive two-body confinement is used. From the calculated results, we find that the light scalar mesons, $σ$, $κ$ could be well accommodated in the diquark-antidiquark tetraquark picture in the flux-tube model and they could be color confinement resonances. The mass of the first radial excited state of $[ud][\bar{u}\bar{d}]$ is 1019 MeV, which is close to the mass of $f_0(980)$. Whereas $a_0(980)$ can not be fitted in this interpretation.

Quark models of dibaryon resonances in nucleon-nucleon scattering

We look for $ΔΔ$ and $NΔ$ resonances by calculating $NN$ scattering phase shifts of two interacting baryon clusters of quarks with explicit coupling to these dibaryon channels. Two phenomenological nonrelativistic chiral quark models giving similar low-energy $NN$ properties are found to give significantly different dibaryon resonance structures. In the chiral quark model (ChQM), the dibaryon system does not resonate in the $NN$ $S$-waves, in agreement with the experimental SP07 $NN$ partial-wave scattering amplitudes. In the quark delocalization and color screening model (QDCSM), the $S$-wave NN resonances disappear when the nucleon size $b$ falls below 0.53 fm. Both quark models give an $IJ^P = 03^+$ $ΔΔ$ resonance. At $b=0.52 $fm, the value favored by baryon spectrum, the resonance mass is 2390 (2420) MeV for the ChQM with quadratic (linear) confinement, and 2360 MeV for the QDCSM. Accessible from the $^3D_3^{NN}$ channel, this resonance is a promising candidate for the known isoscalar ABC structure seen more clearly in the $pn$$\to $$dππ$ production cross section at 2410 MeV in the recent preliminary data reported by the CELSIUS-WASA Collaboration. In the isovector dibaryon sector, our quark models give a bound or almost bound $^5S_2^{ΔΔ}$ state that can give rise to a $^1D_2^{NN}$ resonance. None of the quark models used has bound $NΔ$ $P$-states that might generate odd-parity resonances.

Phenomenological study of hadron interaction models

We present a phenomenological study of three models with different effective degrees of freedom: a Goldstone Boson Exchange (GBE) model which is based on quark-meson couplings, the quark delocalization, color screening model (QDCSM) which is based on quark-gluon couplings with delocalized quark wavefunctions, and the Fujiwara-Nijmegen (FN) mixed model which includes both quark-meson and quark-gluon couplings. We find that for roughly two-thirds of 64 states consisting of pairs of octet and decuplet baryons, the three models predict similar effective baryon-baryon interactions. This suggests that the three very different models, based on different effective degrees of freedom, are nonetheless all compatible with respect to baryon spectra and baryon-baryon interactions. We also discuss the differences between the three models and their separate characteristics.

The fermion dynamical symmetry model for the even--even and even--odd nuclei in the Xe--Ba region

The even--even and even--odd nuclei $^{126}$Xe-$^{132}$Xe and $^{131}$Ba-$^{137}$Ba are shown to have a well-realized $SO_8 \supset SO_6 \supset SO_3$ fermion dynamical symmetry. Their low-lying energy levels can be described by a unified analytical expression with two (three) adjustable parameters for even--odd (even--even) nuclei that is derived from the fermion dynamical symmetry model. Analytical expressions are given for wavefunctions and for $E2$ transition rates that agree well with data. The distinction between the FDSM and IBM $SO_6$ limits is discussed. The experimentally observed suppression of the the energy levels with increasing $SO_5$ quantum number $τ$ can be explained as a perturbation of the pairing interaction on the $SO_6$ symmetry, which leads to an $SO_5$ Pairing effect for $SO_6$ nuclei.
