Validity of the relativistic impulse approximation for elastic proton-nucleus scattering at energies lower than 200 MeV

We present the first study to examine the validity of the relativistic impulse approximation (RIA) for describing elastic proton-nucleus scattering at incident laboratory kinetic energies lower than 200 MeV. For simplicity we choose a $^{208}$Pb target, which is a spin-saturated spherical nucleus for which reliable nuclear structure models exist. Microscopic scalar and vector optical potentials are generated by folding invariant scalar and vector scattering nucleon-nucleon (NN) amplitudes, based on our recently developed relativistic meson-exchange model, with Lorentz scalar and vector densities resulting from the accurately calibrated PK1 relativistic mean field model of nuclear structure. It is seen that phenomenological Pauli blocking (PB) effects and density-dependent corrections to $σ$N and $ω$N meson-nucleon coupling constants modify the RIA microscopic scalar and vector optical potentials so as to provide a consistent and quantitative description of all elastic scattering observables, namely total reaction cross sections, differential cross sections, analyzing powers and spin rotation functions. In particular, the effect of PB becomes more significant at energies lower than 200 MeV, whereas phenomenological density-dependent corrections to the NN interaction {\it also} play an increasingly important role at energies lower than 100 MeV.

Signature splitting in $^{173}$W with triaxial particle rotor model

A particle rotor model with a quasi-neutron coupled with a triaxially deformed rotor is applied to study signature splitting for bands with intruder orbital $\nu7/2^{+} [633]$ and non-intruder orbital $\nu5/2^{-}[512]$ in $^{173}$W. Excellent agreement with the observed energy spectra has been achieved for both bands. Signature splitting for band $\nu7/2^{+} [633]$, and band $\nu5/2^{-}[512]$ before the onset of signature inversion, is satisfactorily reproduced by introducing the $γ$ degree of freedom. The phase and amplitude of signature splitting in band $\nu5/2^{-}[512]$ is attributed to strong competition between $2f_{7/2}$ and $1h_{9/2}$ components. However, the explanation of signature inversion in band $\nu5/2^{-}[512]$ self-consistently is beyond the present one quasi-neutron coupled with a triaxially deformed rotor.

Core Polarization and Tensor Coupling Effects on Magnetic Moments of Hypernuclei

The effects of core polarization and tensor coupling on the magnetic moments in $^{13}_Λ$C, $^{17}_Λ$O, and $^{41}_Λ$Ca $Λ$-hypernuclei are studied in the Dirac equation with scalar, vector and tensor potentials. It is found that the effect of core polarization on the magnetic moments is suppressed by $Λ$ tensor coupling. The $Λ$ tensor potential reduces the spin-orbit splitting of $p_Λ$ states considerably. However, almost the same magnetic moments are obtained using the hyperon wave function obtained via the Dirac equation either with or without the $Λ$ tensor potential in the electromagnetic current vertex. The deviations of magnetic moments for $p_Λ$ states from the Schmidt values are found to increase with nuclear mass number.

Effects of the triaxial deformation and pairing correlation on the proton emitter 145Tm

The ground-state properties of the recent reported proton emitter 145Tm have been studied within the axially or triaxially deformed relativistic mean field (RMF) approaches, in which the pairing correlation is taken into account by the BCS-method with a constant pairing gap. It is found that triaxiality and pairing correlations play important roles in reproducing the experimental one proton separation energy. The single-particle level, the proton emission orbit, the deformation parameters beta = 0.22 and gamma = 28.98 and the corresponding spectroscopic factor for 145Tm in the triaxial RMF calculation are given as well.

Energy-dependent Lorentz covariant parameterization of the NN interaction between 50 and 200 MeV

For laboratory kinetic energies between 50 and 200 MeV, we focus on generating an energy-dependent Lorentz covariant parameterization of the on-shell nucleon-nucleon (NN) scattering amplitudes in terms of a number of Yukawa-type meson exchanges in first-order Born approximation. This parameterization provides a good description of NN scattering observables in the energy range of interest, and can also be extrapolated to energies between 40 and 300 MeV.

Critical Survey of Isoscalar and Isovector Contributions to the Spin Orbit Potential in Relativistic Mean Field Theory

The spin-orbit (SO) interaction, emerging naturally from the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) theory is examined critically in the light of the recently measured excitation energy differences between the terminating states built on two different configurations for nuclei belonging to the lower pf shell. The calculations are carried out using the cranked RMF framework. To further probe the iso-vector dependence of the spin-orbit potential, the energy spacing between the g_{7/2} and h_{11/2} states in the Sb-chain is compared to experiment. It is found that the calculation at the quantitative level deviates strongly from the experiment. In particular the balance of the iso-scalar and iso-vector strengths of the effective one body SO potential indicates that additional terms like tensor couplings may be needed to account for the experimental data.

Reflection asymmetric relativistic mean field approach and its application to the octupole deformed nucleus $^{226}$Ra

A Reflection ASymmetric Relativistic Mean Field (RAS-RMF) approach is developed by expanding the equations of motion for both the nucleons and the mesons on the eigenfunctions of the two-center harmonic-oscillator potential. The efficiency and reliability of the RAS-RMF approach are demonstrated in its application to the well-known octupole deformed nucleus $^{226}$Ra and the available data, including the binding energy and the deformation parameters, are well reproduced.

Chiral bands for quasi-proton and quasi-neutron coupling with a triaxial rotor

A particle rotor model (PRM) with a quasi-proton and a quasi-neutron coupled with a triaxial rotor is developed and applied to study chiral doublet bands with configurations of a $h_{11/2}$ proton and a $h_{11/2}$ quasi-neutron. With pairing treated by the BCS approximation, the present quasi-particle PRM is aimed at simulating one proton and many neutron holes coupled with a triaxial rotor. After a detailed analysis of the angular momentum orientations, energy separation between the partner bands, and behavior of electromagnetic transitions, for the first time we find aplanar rotation or equivalently chiral geometry beyond the usual one proton and one neutron hole coupled with a triaxial rotor.

Constrained relativistic mean field approach with fixed configurations

A diabatic (configuration-fixed) constrained approach to calculate the potential energy surface (PES) of the nucleus is developed in the relativistic mean field model. {As an example}, the potential energy surfaces of $^{208}$Pb obtained from both adiabatic and diabatic constrained approaches are investigated and compared. {It is shown that} the diabatic constrained approach enables one to decompose the segmented PES obtained in usual adiabatic approaches into separate parts uniquely characterized by different configurations, {to follow the evolution of single-particle orbits till very deformed region}, and to obtain several well defined deformed excited states which can hardly be expected from the adiabatic PES's.

Examining the chiral geometry in 104Rh and 106Rh

The criteria for chiral doublet bands based on one particle and one hole coupled to a triaxial rotor have been summarized. Two representative cases in $A\sim100$ odd-odd nuclei, nearly degenerate $ΔI =1$ doublet bands in $^{104}$Rh and $^{106}$Rh are checked against these chiral criteria. It is shown that $^{106}$Rh possesses better chiral geometry than $^{104}$Rh, although the energy near degeneracy is achieved in $^{104}$Rh in comparison with the constant energy separation of doublet bands in $^{106}$Rh.

Doublet bands in $^{126}$Cs in the triaxial rotor model coupled with two quasiparticles

The positive parity doublet bands based on the $πh_{11/2}\otimesνh_{11/2}$ configuration in $^{126}$Cs have been investigated in the two quasi-particles coupled with a triaxial rotor model. The energy spectra $E(I)$, energy staggering parameter $S(I)=[E(I)-E(I-1)]/2I$, $B(M1)$ and $B(E2)$ values, intraband $B(M1)/B(E2)$ ratios, $B(M1)_{\textrm{in}}/B(M1)_{\textrm{out}}$ ratios, and orientation of the angular momentum for the rotor as well as the valence proton and neutron are calculated. After including the pairing correlation, good agreement has been obtained between the calculated results and the data available, which supports the interpretation of this positive parity doublet bands as chiral bands.

Time-odd triaxial relativistic mean field approach for nuclear magnetic moments

The time-odd triaxial relativistic mean field approach is developed and applied to the investigation of the ground-state properties of light odd-mass nuclei near the double-closed shells. The nuclear magnetic moments including the isoscalar and isovector ones are calculated and good agreement with Schmidt values is obtained. Taking $^{17}$F as an example, the splitting of the single particle levels (around $~0.7$ MeV near the Fermi level), the nuclear current, the core polarizations, and the nuclear magnetic potential, i.e., the spatial part of the vector potential, due to the violation of the time reversal invariance are investigated in detail.

Spurious Shell Closures in the Relativistic Mean Field Model

Following a systematic theoretical study of the ground-state properties of over 7000 nuclei from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line in the relativistic mean field model [Prog. Theor. Phys. 113 (2005) 785], which is in fair agreement with existing experimental data, we observe a few spurious shell closures, i.e. proton shell closures at Z=58 and Z=92. These spurious shell closures are found to persist in all the effective forces of the relativistic mean field model, e.g. TMA, NL3, PKDD and DD-ME2.

Giant halo in relativistic and non-relativistic approaches

The phenomena of giant halo and halo of neutron-rich even-Ca isotopes are investigated and compared in the framework of the relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) and non-relativistic Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) calculations. With two parameter sets for each of the RCHB and the Skyrme HFB calculations, it is found that although halo phenomena exist for Ca isotopes near neutron drip line in both calculations, the halo of the Skyrme HFB calculations starts at a more neutron-rich nucleus than that of the RCHB calculations, and the RCHB calculations have larger neutron root-mean-square (rms) radii systematically in N >= 40 than those of the Skyrme HFB calculations. The former difference comes from difference in shell structure. The reasons for the latter can be partly explained by the neutron 3s1/2 orbit, which causes more than 50% of the difference among the four calculations for neutron rms radii at 66Ca.

Multi chiral-doublets in one single nucleus

Adiabatic and configuration-fixed constraint triaxial relativistic mean field (RMF) approaches are developed for the first time and a new phenomenon, the existence of multi chiral-doublets (M$χ$D), i.e., more than one pairs of chiral doublets bands in one single nucleus, is suggested for nuclei in A~100 region, typically for $^{106}$Rh, based on the triaxial deformations together with their corresponding proton and neutron configurations.

Shell-model-Like APproach (SLAP) for the nuclear properties in relativistic mean field theory

A Shell-model-Like APproach (SLAP) suggested to treat the pairing correlations in relativistic mean field theory is introduced, in which the occupancies thus obtained having been iterated back into the densities. The formalism and numerical techniques are given in detail. As examples, the ground state properties and low-lying excited states for Ne isotopes are studied. The results thus obtained are compared with the data available. The binding energies, the odd-even staggering, as well as the tendency for the change of the shapes in Ne isotopes are correctly reproduced.

Relativistic Continuum Hartree Bogoliubov Theory for Ground State Properties of Exotic Nuclei

The Relativistic Continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory, which properly takes into account the pairing correlation and the coupling to (discretized) continuum via Bogoliubov transformation in a microscopic and self-consistent way, has been reviewed together with its new interpretation of the halo phenomena observed in light nuclei as the scattering of particle pairs into the continuum, the prediction of the exotic phenomena -- giant halos in nuclei near neutron drip line, the reproduction of interaction cross sections and charge-changing cross sections in light exotic nuclei in combination with the Glauber theory, better restoration of pseudospin symmetry in exotic nuclei, predictions of exotic phenomena in hyper nuclei, and new magic numbers in superheavy nuclei, etc. Recent investigations on new effective interactions, the density dependence of the interaction strengthes, the RMF theory on the Woods-Saxon basis, the single particle resonant states, and the resonant BCS (rBCS) method for the pairing correlation, etc. are also presented in some details.

Masses, Deformations and Charge Radii--Nuclear Ground-State Properties in the Relativistic Mean Field Model

We perform a systematic study of the ground-state properties of all the nuclei from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line throughout the periodic table employing the relativistic mean field model. The TMA parameter set is used for the mean-field Lagrangian density, and a state-dependent BCS method is adopted to describe the pairing correlation. The ground-state properties of a total of 6969 nuclei with $Z,N\ge 8$ and $Z\le 100$ from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line, including the binding energies, the separation energies, the deformations, and the rms charge radii, are calculated and compared with existing experimental data and those of the FRDM and HFB-2 mass formulae. This study provides the first complete picture of the current status of the descriptions of nuclear ground-state properties in the relativistic mean field model. The deviations from existing experimental data indicate either that new degrees of freedom are needed, such as triaxial deformations, or that serious effort is needed to improve the current formulation of the relativistic mean field model.
