Biharmonic Superspace for N=4 Mechanics

We develop a new superfield approach to N=4 supersymmetric mechanics based on the concept of biharmonic superspace (bi-HSS). It is an extension of the N=4,d=1 superspace by two sets of harmonic variables associated with the two SU(2) factors of the R-symmetry group SO(4) of the N=4, d=1 super Poincaré algebra. There are three analytic subspaces in it: two of the Grassmann dimension 2 and one of the dimension 3. They are closed under the infinite-dimensional "large" N=4 superconformal group, as well as under the finite-dimensional superconformal group D(2,1;α). The main advantage of the bi-HSS approach is that it gives an opportunity to treat N=4 supermultiplets with finite numbers of off-shell components on equal footing with their ``mirror'' counterparts. We show how such multiplets and their superconformal properties are described in this approach. We also define nonpropagating gauge multiplets which can be used to gauge various isometries of the bi-HSS actions. We present an example of nontrivial N=4 mechanics model with a seven-dimensional target manifold obtained by gauging an U(1) isometry in a sum of the free actions of the multiplet (4,4,0) and its mirror counterpart.

Galilean equations for massless fields

Galilei-invariant equations for massless fields are obtained via contractions of relativistic wave equations. It is shown that the collection of non-equivalent Galilei-invariant wave equations for massless fields with spin equal 1 and 0 is very reach and corresponds to various contractions of the representations of the Lorentz group to those of the Galilei one. It describes many physically consistent systems, e.g., those of electromagnetic fields in various media or Galilean Chern-Simon models. Finally, classification of all linear and a big group of non-linear Galilei-invariant equations for massless fields is presented.

Galilei-invariant equations for massive fields

Galilei-invariant equations for massive fields with various spins have been found and classified. They have been derived directly, i.e., by using requirement of the Galilei invariance and various facts on representations of the Galilei group deduced in the paper written by de Montigny M, Niederle J and Nikitin A G, J. Phys. A \textbf{39}, 1-21, 2006. A completed list of non-equivalent Galilei-invariant wave equations for vector and scalar fields is presented. It shows two things. First that the collection of such equations is very broad and describes many physically consistent systems. In particular it is possible to describe spin-orbit and Darwin couplings in frames of Galilei-invariant approach. Second, these Galilei-invariant equations can be obtained either via contraction of known relativistic equations or via contractions of quite new relativistic wave equations.

Galilei invariant theories. II. Wave equations for massive fields

Galilei invariant equations for massive fields with various spins are found and classified. They have been obtained directly, i.e., by using requirement of Galilei invariance and the facts on representations of the Galilei group deduced in our previous paper de Montigny M, Niederle J and Nikitin A G, J. Phys. A {\bf 39}, 1-21, 2006 . It is shown that the collection of non-equivalent Galilei-invariant wave equations for vector and scalar fields is very broad and describes many physically consistent systems.

Galilei invariant theories. III. Wave equations for massless fields

Galilei invariant equations for massless fields are obtained via contractions of relativistic wave equations. It is shown that the collection of non-equivalent Galilei-invariant wave equations for massless fields with spin equal 1 and 0 is very broad and describes many physically consistent systems. In particular, there exist a huge number of such equations for massless fields which correspond to various contractions of representations of the Lorentz group to those of the Galilei one.

Galilei invariant theories. I. Constructions of indecomposable finite-dimensional representations of the homogeneous Galilei group: directly and via contractions

All indecomposable finite-dimensional representations of the homogeneous Galilei group which when restricted to the rotation subgroup are decomposed to spin 0, 1/2 and 1 representations are constructed and classified. These representations are also obtained via contractions of the corresponding representations of the Lorentz group. Finally the obtained representations are used to derive a general Pauli anomalous interaction term and Darwin and spin-orbit couplings of a Galilean particle interacting with an external electric field.

Relativistic wave equations for interacting massive particles with arbitrary half-intreger spins

New formulation of relativistic wave equations (RWE) for massive particles with arbitrary half-integer spins s interacting with external electromagnetic fields are proposed. They are based on wave functions which are irreducible tensors of rank $n ($n=s-\frac12$) antisymmetric w.r.t. n pairs of indices, whose components are bispinors. The form of RWE is straightforward and free of inconsistencies associated with the other approaches to equations describing interacting higher spin particles.

Conformal and Superconformal Mechanics Revisited

We find, at the Lagrangian off-shell level, the explicit equivalence transformation which relates the conformal mechanics of De Alfaro, Fubini and Furlan to the conformal mechanics describing the radial motion of the charged massive particle in the Bertotti-Robinson AdS$_2\times S^2$ background. Thus we demonstrate the classical equivalence of these two systems which are usually regarded as essentially different ``old'' and ``new'' conformal mechanics models. We also construct a similar transformation for N=2, $SU(1,1|1)$ superconformal mechanics in N=2 superfield formulation. Performing this transformation in the action of the N=2 superconformal mechanics, we find an off-shell superfield action of N=2 superextension of Bertotti-Robinson particle. Such an action has not been given before. We show its on-shell equivalence to the AdS$_2$ superparticle action derived from the spontaneous partial breaking of $SU(1,1|1)$ superconformal symmetry treated as the N=2 AdS$_2$ supersymmetry.

Harmonic-Superspace Method Of Solving N=3 Super-Yang-Mills Equations

We analyze the superfield constraints of the D=4, N=3 SYM-theory using light-cone gauge conditions. The SU(3)/U(1) x U(1) harmonic variables are interpreted as auxiliary spectral parameters, and the transform to the harmonic-superspace representation is considered. The harmonic superfield equations of motion are drastically simplified in our gauge, in particular, the basic matrix of the harmonic transform and the corresponding harmonic analytic gauge connections become nilpotent on-shell. It is shown that these harmonic SYM-equations are equivalent to the finite set of solvable linear iterative equations.

Harmonic-Superspace Transform For N=3 SYM-Equations

The SU(3)/U(1) x U(1) harmonic variables are used in the harmonic-superspace representation of the D=4, N=3 SYM-equations. The harmonic superfield equations of motion in the simple non-covariant gauge contain the nilpotent harmonic analytic connections. It is shown that these harmonic SYM-equations are equivalent to the finite set of solvable linear iterative equations.
