Tunable mesoscopic numerical model for bacterial biofilms

We present a tunable mesoscale model to provide a basis for future rheological calculations of of bacterial biofilms, explicitly incorporating reversible crosslinking within the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) matrix. Using a Dissipative Particle Dynamics framework combined with a Gillespie-inspired algorithm, bonds between polymers and bacteria dynamically form and break, capturing the intrinsically evolving nature of the network. We show that biofilm structure is governed by a competition between polymer-polymer and polymer-bacteria crosslinks, controlled by binding energy, linker availability, and bond stiffness and provide a minimal model that helps to understand the competition between both species.

Unified study of scalar, vector and tensor two-meson form factors in $U(3)$ resonance chiral theory

We perform a systematic study of two-meson form factors of the scalar, vector, and anti-symmetric tensor types within the framework of the $U(3)$ resonance chiral theory. The complete perturbative form factors in both the strangeness-conserving and strangeness-changing channels are calculated by incorporating one-loop light-flavor pseudoscalar meson contributions and tree-level resonance exchanges. With these newly calculated chiral results, we construct the corresponding unitarized form factors by incorporating meson-meson final-state interactions. The parameter values obtained in previous meson-meson scattering studies are then exploited to predict the corresponding form factors. Different types of form factors are found to exhibit rather distinct resonance structures across channels.

Report of the Working Group on Goldstone Boson Production and Decay

This is the summary of the working group on Goldstone Boson Production and Decay of the Chiral Dynamics Workshop in Mainz, September 1-5, 1997. For the production aspects we discuss $π^0$ and $η$ production in nucleon-nucleon collisions and the behaviour of hadrons in various sum rules. For the decays we present a discussion on various $K$, $η$ and $π$ decay channels. Other aspects discussed are a new treatment of meson-meson scattering, the light-by-light contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment and progress in various aspects of the $p^6$ generating functional in the mesonic sector.
