On the Quark-Gluon Vertex and Quark-Ghost Kernel: combining Lattice Simulations with Dyson-Schwinger equations

We investigate the dressed quark-gluon vertex combining two established non-perturbative approaches to QCD: the Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) for the quark propagator and lattice-regularized simulations for the quark, gluon and ghost propagators. The vertex is modeled using a generalized Ball-Chiu ansatz parameterized by a single form factor $\tilde X_0$ which effectively represents the quark-ghost scattering kernel. The solution space of the DSE inversion for $\tilde X_0$ is highly degenerate, which can be dealt with by a numerical regularization scheme. We consider two possibilities: (i) linear regularization and (ii) the Maximum Entropy Method. These two numerical approaches yield compatible $\tilde X_0$ functions for the range of momenta where lattice data is available and feature a strong enhancement of the generalized Ball-Chiu vertex for momenta below 1 GeV. Our ansatz for the quark-gluon vertex is then used to solve the quark DSE which yields a mass function in good agreement with lattice simulations and thus provides adequate dynamical chiral symmetry breaking.

Electromagnetic Structure of the Pion

In this work, we analyze the electromagnetic structure of the pion. We calculate its electromagnetic radius and electromagnetic form factor in low and intermediate momentum range. Such observables are determined by means of a theoretical model that takes into account the constituent quark and antiquark of the pion within the formalism of light-front field theory. In particular, we consider a nonsymmetrical vertex in this model, with which we calculate the electromagnetic form factor of the pion in an optimized way, so that we obtain a value closer to the experimental charge radius of the pion. The theoretical calculations are also compared with the most recent experimental data involving the pion electromagnetic form factor and the results show very good agreement.

The Electromagnetic Form Factor of the Kaon in the Light-Front Approach

The kaon electromagnetic form factor is calculated within a light-front constituent quark model (LFCQM). The electromagnetic components of the current are extracted from the Feynman triangle diagram within the light-front approach. We also obtain the electroweak decay constant and the charge radius for the kaon in the light-front approach. In this work, the kaon observables are calculated and a fairly good agreement is obtained with a very higher accuracy when compared with the experimental data.

A combined study of the pion's static properties and form factors

We study consistently the pion's static observables and the elastic and γ*γ-> π^0 transition form factors within a light-front model. Consistency requires that all calculations are performed within a given model with the same and single adjusted length or mass-scale parameter of the associated pion bound-state wave function. Our results agree well with all extent data including recent Belle data on the γ*γ-> π^0 form factor at large q^2, yet the BaBar data on this transition form factor resists a sensible comparison. We relax the initial constraint on the bound-state wave function and show the BaBar data can partially be accommodated. This, however, comes at the cost of a hard elastic form factor not in agreement with experiment. Moreover, the pion charge radius is about 40% smaller than its experimentally determined value. It is argued that a decreasing charge radius produces an ever harder form factor with a bound-state amplitude difficultly reconcilable with soft QCD. We also discuss why vector dominance type models for the photon-quark vertex, based on analyticity and crossing symmetry, are unlikely to reproduce the litigious transition form factor data.

Pion and kaon elastic form factors in a refined light-front model

Within the framework of light-front field theory, we reassess the electromagnetic form factors of the pion and kaon. Comparison with experiment is made for the full range of momentum transfer, q^2<0, including recent data. The light-front model's single regulator mass, m_R, of the \bar qq bound-state vertex function is initially adjusted to reproduce the weak decay constants, f_π and f_K, and both meson's charge radii, r_π and r_K. We study the behavior of these observables under variation of the quark masses and find an optimized parameter set, m_u=m_d, m_s and m_R, for which they are in sensibly better agreement with experiment than in a previous analysis; a feature also observed for the elastic form factors, in particular at small q^2. This model refinement is important in view of an extension to vector and heavy-light mesons.

Light-Front projection of spin-1 electromagnetic current and zero-modes

The issue of the contribution of zero-modes to the light-front projection of the electromagnetic current of phenomenological models of vector particles vertices is addressed in the Drell-Yan frame. Our analytical model of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude of a spin-1 fermion-antifermion composite state gives a physically motivated light-front wave function symmetric by the exchange of the fermion and antifermion, as in the $ρ$-meson case. We found that among the four independent matrix elements of the plus component in the light-front helicity basis only the $0\to 0$ one carries zero mode contributions. Our derivation generalizes to symmetric models, important for applications, the above conclusion found for a simplified non-symmetrical form of the spin-1 Bethe-Salpeter amplitude with photon-fermion point-like coupling and also for a smeared fermion-photon vertex model.

Eletroweak Form Factors in the Light-Front for Spin-1 Particles

The contribution of the light-front valence wave function to the electromagnetic current of spin-1 composite particles is not enough to warranty the proper transformation of the current under rotations. The naive derivation of the plus component of the current in the Drell-Yan-West frame within an analytical and covariant model of the vertex leads to the violation of the rotational symmetry. Computing the form-factors in a quasi Drell-Yan-West frame $q^+\rightarrow 0$, we were able to separate out in an analytical form the contributions from Z-diagrams or zero modes using the instant-form cartesian polarization basis.

New physics in B_s^0 -> J/ψϕdecays?

After a brief review of B_s^0 - \bar B_s^0 oscillations, we discuss the weak decays B_s^0 -> J/ψϕand B_s^0 -> J/ψf_0(980) and the ratio R_{f_0/ϕ} of their decay rates in the light of recent measurements by the LHCb, D0 and CDF Collaborations. We point out that the experimental values for R_{f_0/ϕ} impose tight limits on new physics contributions to both decay channels.

Light-Front Model of Transition Form-Factors in Heavy Meson Decay

Electroweak transition form factors of heavy meson decays are important ingredients in the extraction of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements from experimental data. In this work, within a light-front framework, we calculate electroweak transition form factor for the semileptonic decay of $D$ mesons into a pion or a kaon. The model results underestimate in both cases the new data of CLEO for the larger momentum transfers accessible in the experiment. We discuss possible reasons for that in order to improve the model.

Kaon and Pion Electromagnetic Form Factor Ratios in the Light-Front

We have applied the light-front formalism to calculate the electromagnetic form factors for the pion and the kaon from two models at low and high energies in order to explore the differences between such models. We have also compared the results for the ratio $F_{K}(Q^2)/F_π(Q^2)$ with the experimental data up to 10 [GeV/c]$^2$ and we have observed that the theoretical results are in good concordance for low energies, but they are very different at higher energy scales.

Time- and Spacelike Nucleon Electromagnetic Form Factors beyond Relativistic Constituent Quark Models

For the first time, a phenomenological analysis of the experimental electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon, both in the timelike and spacelike regions, is performed by taking into account the effects of nonvalence components in the nucleon state, within a light-front framework. Our model, based on suitable Ansatzes for the nucleon Bethe-Salpeter amplitude and a microscopic version of the well-known Vector Meson Dominance model, has only four free parameters (determined by the spacelike data with $χ^2/datum \sim 1.7$), and yields a nice description of the experimental electromagnetic form factors in the physical region in the range $-30 (GeV/c)^2 < q^2 < 20 (GeV/c)^2$, except for the neutron one in the timelike region. Valuable information can be gained in the timelike region on possible missing Vector Mesons around $q^2 \sim 4.5 (GeV/c)^2$ and $q^2 \sim 8.0 (GeV/c)^2$

Wick Rotation in the Light-Front

We study the electroweak properties of pseudo-scalar mesons in the light and heavy-light sectors. In particular, we address the electromagnetic form factors and decay constants of the pion, kaon and D mesons. The structure of composite systems are given by the Bethe-Salpeter (BS) amplitude of a meson formed by a confined pair of constituent quark and antiquark, which in our work is written in terms of Pauli-Villars regulators. The analytical structure contains single poles in the complex momentum space. The BS amplitude takes into account poles due to the regulator parameters, while the quark-antiquark cut is avoided, implying in confined quarks with the property that the sum of the constituents masses can be larger than the mass of the meson. The one-loop expressions of the electroweak transition amplitudes are conveniently written in terms of light-front momentum. Technically, we introduce a Wick-rotation of he minus component of the momentum (k-minus) in the one-loop amplitudes allowing to avoid the cuts in the complex plane of this momentum variable without crossing them. This is particularly useful as we can study the electroweak properties with several models of the BS amplitude with different powers of Pauli-Villars regulators. The possibility to change the power of the BS amplitude is interesting in order to test the asymptotic behavior of the electromagnetic form factors searching for a suitable form that incorporates the expected QCD decaying power-law form. The results are compared with others models in the literature and with the experimental data.

Modeling electromagnetic form factors of light and heavy pseudoscalar mesons

The electromagnetic form factors of light and heavy pseudoscalar mesons are calculated within two covariant constituent-quark models, a light-front and a dispersion relation approach. We investigate the details and physical origins of the model dependence of various hadronic observables: the weak decay constant, the charge radius and the elastic electromagnetic form factor.

Electromagnetic structure and weak decay of meson K in a light-front QCD-inspired

The kaon electromagnetic (e.m.) form factor is reviewed considering a light-front constituent quark model. In this approach, it is discussed the relevance of the quark-antiquark pair terms for the full covariance of the e.m. current. It is also verified, by considering a QCD dynamical model, that a good agreement with experimental data can be obtained for the kaon weak decay constant once a probability of about 80% of the valence component is taken into account.

Electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon in spacelike and timelike regions

An approach for a unified description of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors in spacelike and timelike regions is presented. The main ingredients of our model are: $i)$ a Mandelstam formula for the matrix elements of the nucleon electromagnetic current; $ii)$ a 3-dimensional reduction of the problem on the Light-Front performed within the so-called {\tt Propagator Pole Approximation} ({\bf PPA}), which consists in disregarding the analytical structure of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes and of the quark-photon vertex function in the integration over the minus components of the quark momenta; $iii)$ a dressed photon vertex in the $q\bar{q}$ channel, where the photon is described by its spin-1, hadronic component.

Timelike and spacelike hadron form factors, Fock state components and light-front dynamics

A unified description of spacelike and timelike hadron form factors within a light-front model was successfully applied to the pion. The model is extended to the nucleon to study the role of $q \bar q$ pair production and of nonvalence components in the nucleon form factors. Preliminary results in the spacelike range $0 \le Q^2 \le 10 ~ (GeV/c)^2$ are presented.

Pole Approximation for the pion eletromagnetic form factor within light-front dynamics

We carefully investigate the reliability of the propagator Pole Approximation, i.e, the approximation of retaining only the propagator in the evaluation of the Mandelstam covariant expression for the eletromagnetic current of the pion. Different frames are analyzed, in order to find the most suitable one for calculating the pion form factor within the proposed approximation. It turns out that approximation is more accurate in the frame where q^+ is maximal. The relevance of the Pole Approximation is briefly discussed in view of calculations of hadrons factors basead wave functions generate by dynamical models.
