Adiabatic evolution of Hayward black hole

In this letter we use the Carathéodory's approach to thermodynamics, to construct the thermodynamic manifold of the Hayward black hole. The Pfaffian form representing the infinitesimal heat exchange reversibly is considered to be $δQ_{\mathrm{rev}}\equiv {\rm d}r_s-\mathcal{F}_H {\rm d}l$, previously obtained by Molina \& Villanueva \cite{fmv20}, where $r_s$ is the Schwarzschild radius, $l$ is the Hayward's parameter responsible for the possible regularization of the Schwarzschild black hole, and $\mathcal{F}_H$ is the intensive variable called the Hayward's force. By solving the associated Cauchy problem, the adiabatic paths are confined to the non-extremal manifold, and therefore, the status of the second and third laws are preserved. Consequently, the extremal sub-manifold corresponds to the {adiabatically disconnected} boundary of the manifold. In addition, the merger of two extremal Hayward black holes is analyzed.

Adiabatic analysis of the rotating BTZ black hole

In this paper we analyze some interesting features of the thermodynamics of the rotating BTZ black hole from the Carathéodory axiomatic postulate, for which, we exploit the appropriate Pfaffian form. The allowed adiabatic transformations are then obtained by solving the corresponding Cauchy problem, and are studied accordingly. Furthermore, we discuss the implications of our approach, regarding the the second and third laws of black hole thermodynamics. In particular, the merging of two extremal black holes is studied in detail.

Ergosphere, photon region structure, and the shadow of a rotating charged Weyl black hole

In this paper, we explore the photon region and the shadow of the rotating counterpart of a static charged Weyl black hole, which has been previously discussed according to null and time-like geodesics. The rotating black hole shows strong sensitivity to the electric charge and the spin parameter, and its shadow changes from being oblate to being sharp by increasing in the spin parameter. Comparing the calculated vertical angular diameter of the shadow with that of M87*, we found that the latter may possess about $10^36$ protons as its source of electric charge, if it is a rotating charged Weyl black hole. A complete derivation of the ergosphere and the static limit is also presented.

Gravitational Rutherford scattering of electrically charged particles from a charged Weyl black hole

Considering electrically charged test particles, we continue our study of the exterior dynamics of a charged Weyl black hole which has been previously investigated regarding the motion of mass-less and (neutral) massive particles. In this paper, the deflecting trajectories of charged particles are designated as being gravitationally Rutherford-scattered and detailed discussions of angular and radial particle motions are presented.

Null geodesics in five-dimensional Reissner-Nordström anti-de Sitter black hole

The study of the motion of photons around massive bodies is one of the most useful tools to know the geodesic structure associated with said gravitational source. In the present work, different possible paths projected in an invariant hyperplane are investigated, considering five-dimensional Reissner-Nordström anti-de Sitter black hole. Also, we study some observational test such as the bending of light and the Shapiro time delay effect. Mainly, we found that the motion of photons follows the hippopede of Proclus geodesic, which is a new type of trajectory of second kind, being the Limaçon of Pascal their analogue geodesic in four-dimensional Reissner-Nordström anti-de Sitter black hole.

On the thermodynamics of the Hayward black hole

In light of the growing interest in the Hayward black hole solution, a detailed study on the corresponding lapse function and its roots is presented. The lapse function is expressed in terms of the classical Schwarzschild radius $r_s$ and the Hayward's parameter $l$. Both of these quantities are used as thermodynamic variables to find related thermodynamic quantities. In this context, the variable $l$ is associated with a canonical conjugate variable $\mathcal{F}_H$, and a free energy $Ξ$. Moreover, a second order phase transition is found to appears at $l\approx0.333\,r_s$.

Motion of massive particles around a charged Weyl black hole and the geodetic precession of orbiting gyroscopes

The advanced state of cosmological observations constantly tests the alternative theories of gravity that originate from Einstein's theory. However, this is not restricted to modifications to general relativity. In this sense, we work in the context of Weyl's theory, more specifically, on a particular black hole solution for a charged massive source, which is confronted with the classical test of the geodetic precession, to obtain information about the parameters associated with this theory. To fully assess this spacetime, the complete geodesic structure for massive test particles is presented.

No slow-roll inflation à la Generalized Chaplygin Gas in General Relativity

The Generalized Chaplygin Gas (GCG) model is characterized by the equation of state $P = -A ρ^{-α}$, where $A>0$ and $α< 1$. The model has been extensively studied due to its interesting properties and applicability in several contexts, from late-time acceleration to primordial inflation. Nonetheless we show that the inflationary slow-roll regime cannot be satisfied by most of the parameter space of the GCG model when General Relativity (GR) is considered. In particular, although the model has been applied to inflation with $0 < α< 1$, we show that for $-1 < α\le 1$ there is no expansion of the Universe but an accelerated contraction. For $α\le -5/3$, the second slow-roll parameter $η_H$ is larger than unity, so there is no sustained period of inflation. Only for $α$ very close to -1 the model produces enough $e$-folds, thus greatly reducing its parameter space. Moreover, we show that the model is ruled out by the Planck 2018 results. Finally, we extend our analysis to the Generalized Chaplygin-Jacobi Gas (GCJG) model. We find that the introduction of a new parameter does not change the previous results. We thus conclude that the violation of the slow-roll conditions is a generic feature of the GCG and GCJG models during inflation when GR is considered and that the models are ruled out by the Planck 2018 results.

Classical tests on a charged Weyl black hole: bending of light, Shapiro delay and Sagnac effect

In this paper, we apply the classical test of general relativity on a charged Weyl black hole, whose exterior geometry is defined by altering the spherically symmetric solutions of Weyl conformal theory of gravity. The tests are basically founded on scrutinizing the angular geodesics of light rays propagating in the gravitating system caused by the black hole. In this investigation, we bring detailed discussions about the bending of light, together with two other relativistic effects, known as the Shapiro and the Sagnac effects. We show that the results are in good conformity with the general relativistic effects, besides giving long-distance corrections caused by the cosmological nature of the background geometry under study.

Photons trajectories on a first order scale-dependent static BTZ black hole

In this paper we study the motion of massless particles on a static BTZ black hole background in the context of scale-dependent gravity, which is characterized by the running parameter $ε$. Thus, by using standard methods we obtain the equation of motions and then analytic solutions are found. The relevant non-trivial differences appear when we compare our solution against the classical counterpart.

The Sagnac effect on a scale-dependent rotating BTZ black hole background

In this paper we investigate the Sagnac effect by calculating the difference in travel time and phase shift observed for photon beams counter--propagating in a rotating interferometer on a BTZ black hole solution in the context of scale-dependent gravity, which describes the field around a massive static and rotating object in $2+1$ gravity.

Photon paths in the hyperbolic topological black hole spacetime of conformal Weyl gravity

In this work we find analytical solutions to the null geodesics in the hyperbolic topological black hole spacetime of conformal Weyl gravity in an invariant $2$-plane given by the orbits of an azimuthal Killing vector. Exact expressions for the (non-compact) horizons are found, which depend on the cosmological constant and the coupling constants of conformal Weyl gravity. The angular motion is examined qualitatively by means of an effective potential; quantitatively, the equation of motion is solved in terms of the $\wp$-Weierstraß elliptic function. Thus, we find the deflection angle for photons without using any approximation, which is a novel result for this topology.

Stable Gravastars: Guilfoyle's electrically charged solutions

Compelling alternatives to black holes, namely, gravitational vacuum star ({\it gravastar}) models, the multilayered structure compact objects, have been proposed to avoid a number of theoretical problems associated with event horizons and singularities. In this work, we construct a spherically symmetric thin-shell charged gravastar model where the vacuum phase transition between the de Sitter interior and the external Reissner--Nordstr$\ddot{\text{o}}$m spacetime (RN) are matched at a junction surface, by using the cut-and-paste procedure. Gravastar solutions are found among the Guilfoyle exact solutions where the gravitational potential $W^2$ and the electric potential field $ϕ$ obey a particularly relation in a simple form $ a\left(b-εϕ\right)^2 +b_1$, where $a$, $b$ and $b_1$ being arbitrary constants. The simplest ansatz of Guilfoyle's solution is implemented by the following assumption: that the total energy density $8πρ_m+\frac{Q^2}{ r^4}$ = constant, where $Q(r)$ is the electric charge up to a certain radius $r$. We show that, for certain ranges of the parameters, we can avoid the horizon formation, which allows us to study the linearized spherically symmetric radial perturbations around static equilibrium solutions. To lend our solution theoretical support, we also analyze the physical and geometrical properties of gravastar configurations.

Null paths on a toroidal topological black hole in conformalWeyl gravity

The motion of massless particles on the background of a toroidal topological black hole is analyzed in the context of conformal Weyl gravity. Null geodesics, in terms of the Jacobi elliptic functions, are found analytically. In addition, the Sagnac effect in this space-time is characterized, and we find a strong condition in the theory's parameters that is required for its existence.

Reconstruction of a kinetic k--essence Lagrangian from a modified of dark energy equation of state

In this paper the Lagrangian density of a purely kinetic k--essence that models the behavior of dark energy described by four parameterized equations of state proposed by Cooray \& Huterer (Astrophys. J. {\bf 513} L95, 1999), Zhang \& Wu (Mod. Phys. Lett. A {\bf 27} 1250030, 2012), Linder (Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 90} 091301, 2003), Efstathiou (Mon. Not. Roy. Astron. Soc. {\bf 310} 842, 2000), and Feng \& Lu (J. Cosmol. Astropart. Phys. {\bf 1111} 034, 2011) has been reconstructed. This reconstruction is performed using the method outlined by de Putter \& Linder (Astropart.\ Phys.\ {\bf 28} 263, 2007), which makes it possible to solve the equations that relate the Lagrangian density of the k--essence with the given equation of state (EoS) numerically. Finally, we discuss the observational constraints for the models based on 586 SNIa data points from the LOSS data set compiled by Ganeshalingam et al. (Mon. Not Roy. Astron. Soc. {\bf 433} 2240, 2013).

The golden ratio in Schwarzschild-Kottler black holes

In this paper we show that the golden ratio is present in the Schwarzschild-Kottler metric. For null geodesics with maximal radial acceleration, the turning points of the orbits are in the golden ratio $Φ= (\sqrt{5}-1)/2$. This is a general result which is independent of the value and sign of the cosmological constant $Λ$.

Photon spheres in Einstein and Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theories and circular null geodesics in axially-symmetric spacetimes

In this article we extend a recent theorem proven by Hod (Phys. Lett. B, {\bf 727}, 345--348, 2013) to $n$-dimensional Einstein and Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theories, which gives an upper bound for the photon sphere radii of spherically symmetric black holes. As applications of these results we give a universal upper bound for the real part of quasinormal modes in the WKB limit and a universal lower bound for the position of the first relativistic image in the strong lensing regime produced by these type of black holes. For the axially-symmetric case, we also make some general comments (independent of the underlying gravitational theory) on the relation between circular null geodesics and the fastest way to circle a black hole.

A Jacobian generalization of the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons potential

We enlarge the classes of inflaton and quintessence fields by generalizing the pseudo Nambu--Goldstone boson potential by means of elliptic Jacobian functions, which are characterized by a parameter $k$. We use such a generalization to implement an inflationary era and a late acceleration of the universe. As an inflationary model the Jacobian generalization leads us to a number of e-foldings and a primordial spectrum of perturbations compatible with the {\it Planck collaboration} 2015. As a quintessence model, a study of the evolution of its equation of state (EoS) and its $w'$--$w$ plane helps us to classify it as a thawing model. This allows us to consider analytical approximations for the EoS recently discovered for thawing quintessence. By using JLA Supernovae Ia and Hubble parameter $H(z)$ data sets, we perform an observational analysis of the viability of the model as quintessence.
