High temperature periodic BEC in deuterated metals

The standard Frohlich model of the interaction of band states with phonons is applied to the case of deuterons solved in metals. A simple variational solution of this model predicts at least one highly coherent state of the deuteron-phonon system having a total energy significantly lower than that of uncorrelated interstitial deuterons and only thermal phonons, and that this phase may actually be exhibited at room temperature and high levels of deuteration.

Superconducting protons in metals

The hitherto neglected phonon-exchange interaction between interstitial protons in metal lattices is found to be large. It is shown that this effect may give rise to a phase of protonic superconductivity, characterized by the formation of Cooper-like pairs of protons, in certain metals at high stoichiometric loading.

Phonon-bound nucleon pairs predicted by the Bohm-Staver relation

Attention is drawn to recent observation of a fluid phase of hydrogen nucleii in transition metal hydrides. It is suggested that phonon exchange processes might be responsible for the phase transition since bound pair states, analogous to Cooper pairs, would possess the required mobility and might moreover render the phase transition energetically favourable. A generic formula for the ground state binding energy based upon the results of numerical calculations is presented and a special test of the theory is proposed.
