Supersymmetric Higgs Boson Decays in the MSSM with Explicit CP Violation

Decays into neutralinos and charginos are among the most accessible supersymmetric decay modes of Higgs particles in most supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. In the presence of explicitly CP--violating phases in the soft breaking sector of the theory, the couplings of Higgs bosons to charginos and neutralinos are in general complex. Based on a specific benchmark scenario of CP violation, we analyze the phenomenological impact of explicit CP violation in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model on these Higgs boson decays. The presence of CP--violating phases could be confirmed either directly through the measurement of a CP--odd polarization asymmetry of the produced charginos and neutralinos, or through the dependence of CP--even quantities (branching ratios and masses) on these phases.

Single-photon events in e^+ e^- collisions

We provide a detailed investigation of single-photon production processes in $e^+e^-$ collisions with missing momenta carried by neutrinos or neutralinos. The transition amplitudes for both processes can be organized into a generic simplified, factorized form; each neutral V$\pm$A vector current of missing energy carriers is factorized out and all the characteristics of the reaction is solely included in the electron vector current. Firstly, we apply the generic form to give a unified description of a single-photon production with a Dirac-type or Majorana-type neutrino-pair and to confirm their identical characteristics as suggested by the so-called Practical Dirac-Majorana Confusion Theorem. Secondly, we show that the generic amplitude form is maintained with the anomalous P- and C-invariant WW$γ$ couplings in the neutrino-associated process and it enables us to easily understand large contributions of the anomalous WW$γ$ couplings at higher energies and, in particular, at the points away from the Z-resonance peak. Finally, the neutralino-associated process, which receives modifications in both the left-handed and right-handed electron currents due to the exchanges of the left-handed and right-handed selectrons, can be differentiated from the neutrino-associated ones through the left-right asymmetries and/or the circular polarization of the outgoing photon.

CP Violation in the Cabbibo-suppressed Decay Tau->K Pi Nu_tau with Polarized Tau Leptons

CP violation from physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) is investigated in the Cabbibo-suppressed decay $τ\to Kπν_τ$ with polarized $τ$ leptons, to which both the ${\rm J}^{P}=1^-$ resonance $K^*$ and the $ J^{P}=0^+$ resonance $K^*_0$ contribute. In addition to the CP-odd rate asymmetry, $τ$ polarization enables us to construct three additional CP-odd polarization asymmetries that can be enhanced due to the interference between the $K^*$ and $K^*_0$, and whose magnitudes depend crucially on the $K^*_0$ decay constant, $f_{K^*_0}$. Taking a QCD sum rule estimate of $f_{K^*_0}=45$ MeV and the present experimental constraints on the CP-odd parameters into account, we estimate quantitatively the maximally-allowed values for the CP-odd rate and polarization asymmetries in the multi-Higgs-doublet (MHD) model and the scalar-leptoquark (SLQ) models consistent with the SM gauge symmetry where neutrinos are massless and left-handed as in the SM. We find that the CP-odd rate and polarization asymmetries are of a similar size for highly-polarized $τ$ leptons and, for their maximally-allowed values, CP violation in the MHD model and two SLQ models may be detected with about $10^6$ and $10^7$ $τ$'s at the $1σ$ level.

Gravitational effects on the neutrino oscillation in vacuum

The propagation of neutrinos in a gravitational field is studied by developing a method of calculating a covariant quantum-mechanical phase in a curved space-time. The result is applied to neutrino propagation in the Schwarzschild metric.

Pulsar Velocity with Three-Neutrino Oscillations in Non-adiabatic Processes

We have studied the position dependence of neutrino energy on the Kusenko-Segrè mechanism as an explanation of the proper motion of pulsars. The mechanism is also examined in three-generation mixing of neutrinos and in a non-adiabatic case. The position dependence of neutrino energy requires the higher value of magnetic field such as $B\sim 3\times 10^{15}$ Gauss in order to explain the observed proper motion of pulsars. It is shown that possible non-adiabatic processes decrease the neutrino momentum asymmetry, whereas an excess of electron neutrino flux over other flavor neutrino fluxes increases the neutrino momentum asymmetry. It is also shown that a general treatment with all three neutrinos does not modify the result of the two generation treatment if the standard neutrino mass hierarchy is assumed.

Finite temperature effects on the neutrino decoupling in the early Universe

Leading finite temperature effects on the neutrino decoupling temperature in the early Universe have been studied. We have incorporated modifications of the dispersion relation and the phase space distribution due to the presence of particles in the heat bath at temperature around MeV. Since both the expansion rate of the Universe and the interaction rate of a neutrino are reduced by finite temperature effects, it is necessary to calculate thermal corrections as precisely as possible in order to find the net effect on the neutrino decoupling temperature. We have performed such a calculation by using the finite temperature field theory. It has been shown that the finite temperature effects increase the neutrino decoupling temperature by 4.4%, the largest contribution coming from the modification of the phase space due to the thermal bath.

Gravitational Effects on the Neutrino Oscillation

The propagation of neutrinos in a gravitational field is studied. A method of calculating a covariant quantum-mechanical phase in a curved space-time is presented. The result is used to calculate gravitational effects on the neutrino oscillation in the presence of a gravitational field. We restrict our discussion to the case of the Schwartzschild metric. Specifically, the cases of the radial propagation and the non-radial propagation are considered. A possible application to gravitational lensing of neutrinos is also suggested.

A scale-dependent cosmology for the inhomogeneous Universe

A scale-dependent cosmology is proposed in which the Robertson-Walker metric and the Einstein equation are modified in such a way that $Ω_0$, $H_0$ and the age of the Universe all become scale-dependent. Its implications on the observational cosmology are discussed.

Modifications of the Hubble Law in a Scale-Dependent Cosmology

We study some observational consequences of a recently proposed scale--dependent cosmological model for an inhomogeneous Universe. In this model the Universe is pictured as being inside a highly dense and rapidly expanding shell with the underdense center. For nearby objects ($z \ll 1$), the linear Hubble diagram is shown to remain valid even in this model, which has been demonstrated both analytically and numerically. For large $z$, we present some numerical results of the redshift--luminosity distance relation and the behavior of the mass density as a function of the redshift. It is shown that the Hubble diagram in this model for a locally $open$ Universe ($Ω(t_0, r \sim 0)=0.1$) resembles that of the $flat$ Friedmann cosmology. This implies that study of the Hubble diagram cannot uniquely determine the value of $q_0$ or $Ω_0$ in a model--independent way. The model also accounts for the fact that $Ω_0$ is an increasing function of the redshift.

A New Scale-Dependent Cosmology with the Generalized Robertson--Walker Metric and Einstein Equation

Based on the observed increase of $Ω_0$ as a function of cosmic scale, the Robertson--Walker metric and the Einstein equation are generalized so that $ Ω_0$, $H_0$, and the age of the Universe, $t_0$, all become functions of cosmic scales at which we observe them. The calculated local (within our galaxy) age of the Universe is about 18 Gyr, consistent with the ages of the oldest stars and globular clusters in our galaxy, while the ages at distant scales are shorter than the local age, solving the age puzzle. It is also shown that $H_0$ increases as scale increases, qualitatively consistent with the recent observations.

Effects of the Running Gravitational Constant on the Amount of Dark Matter

The amount of dark matter in the Milky Way and beyond is examined by taking into account the possible running of the gravitational constant $G$ as a function of distance scale. If the running of $G$, as suggested by the Asymptotically-Free Higher-Derivative quantum gravity, is incorporated into the calculation of the total dark matter in the galactic halo, the amount of dark matter that is necessary to explain the rotation curve is shown to be reduced by one third compared with the standard calculations. However, this running of $G$ alone cannot reproduce the observed flat behavior of the rotation curve. It is also shown that the running of $G$ cannot explain away the presence of most of the dark matter beyond the scale of $ \sim 10$ Mpc in the Universe. We also present a pedagogical explanation for the running of $G(r)$ in the region of large scales which is clearly a classical domain.
