Rendering-Aware Sparse Sampling for BRDF Acquisition

Accurate BRDF acquisition is essential for realistic rendering, but dense gonioreflectometer measurements are slow and expensive. We study how to select a small set of BRDF measurements that is most informative for reconstructing material appearance under a learned BRDF prior. Existing sparse-acquisition methods often optimize samples for BRDF-space reconstruction for all materials, while the perceptual importance of a adaptive measurement ultimately depends on its effect on each rendered appearance. We therefore formulate sparse adaptive acquisition as a rendering-aware optimization problem. Our method combines a set encoder for sparse coordinate--value observations, a pretrained hypernetwork-based/PCA-based BRDF reconstructor, and a differentiable renderer. During sampler training, the reconstructor remains fixed, and gradients from a rendered-image loss optimize the measurement locations. This separates acquisition design from prior fitting and encourages the sampler to choose directions that are informative under the learned material distribution. To make the comparison controlled, we evaluate the uniform baseline, meta-learning method, HyperBRDF method, and our learned sampler under matched sample numbers, train/test split, rendering scene, object mask, image mapping, and metrics. Our central claim: rendering-aware sampling improves extremely sparse BRDF acquisition when final rendered appearance is the target. BRDF-space and combined losses are reported only as ablations, together with joint refinement and image-only latent fitting for unseen materials.

3-dimensional $Λ$-BMS Symmetry and its Deformations

In this paper we study quantum group deformations of the infinite dimensional symmetry algebra of asymptotically AdS spacetimes in three dimensions. Building on previous results in the finite dimensional subalgebras we classify all possible Lie bialgebra structures and for selected examples, we explicitly construct the related Hopf algebras. Using cohomological arguments we show that this construction can always be performed by a so-called twist deformation. The resulting structures can be compared to the well-known $κ$-Poincaré Hopf algebras constructed on the finite dimensional Poincaré or (anti) de Sitter algebra. The dual $κ$ Minkowski spacetime is supposed to describe a specific non-commutative geometry. Importantly, we find that some incarnations of the $κ$-Poincaré can not be extended consistently to the infinite dimensional algebras. Furthermore, certain deformations can have potential physical applications if subalgebras are considered. Since the conserved charges associated with asymptotic symmetries in 3-dimensional form a centrally extended algebra we also discuss briefly deformations of such algebras. The presence of the full symmetry algebra might have observable consequences that could be used to rule out these deformations. }

BMS algebras in 4 and 3 dimensions, their quantum deformations and duals

BMS symmetry is a symmetry of asymptotically flat spacetimes in the vicinity of the null boundary of spacetime and it is expected to play a fundamental role in physics. It is interesting therefore to investigate the structures and properties of quantum deformations of these symmetries, which are expected to shed some light on symmetries of quantum spacetime. In this paper we discuss the structure of the algebra of extended BMS symmetries in 3 and 4 spacetime dimensions, realizing that these algebras contain an infinite number of distinct Poincaré subalgebras, a fact that has previously been noted in the 3-dimensional case only. Then we use these subalgebras to construct an infinite number of different Hopf algebras being quantum deformations of the BMS algebras. We also discuss different types of twist-deformations and the dual Hopf algebras, which could be interpreted as noncommutative, extended quantum spacetimes.

$κ$-deformed BMS symmetry

We present the quantum $κ$-deformation of BMS symmetry, by generalizing the lightlike $κ$-Poincaré Hopf algebra. On the technical level, our analysis relies on the fact that the lightlike $κ$-deformation of Poincaré algebra is given by a twist and the lightlike deformation of any algebra containing Poincaré as a subalgebra can be done with the help of the same twisting element. We briefly comment on the physical relevance of the obtained $κ$-BMS Hopf algebra as a possible asymptotic symmetry of quantum gravity.
