The Z -> gamma gamma, gg Decays in the Noncommutative Standard Model

On noncommutative spacetime, the Standard Model allows new, usually Standard Model forbidden, triple gauge boson interactions. In this letter we propose the Standard Model strictly forbidden Z -> gamma gamma and Z -> gg decay modes coming from the gauge sector of the Noncommutative Standard Model as a place where noncommutativity could be experimentally discovered.

The Standard Model on Non-Commutative Space-Time

We consider the Standard Model on a non-commutative space and expand the action in the non-commutativity parameter theta. No new particles are introduced, the structure group is SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1). We derive the leading order action. At zeroth order the action coincides with the ordinary Standard Model. At leading order in theta we find new vertices which are absent in the Standard Model on commutative space-time. The most striking features are couplings between quarks, gluons and electroweak bosons and many new vertices in the charged and neutral currents. We find that parity is violated in non-commutative QCD. The Higgs mechanism can be applied. QED is not deformed in the minimal version of the NCSM to the order considered.

Supersymmetric Model with Grassmann-odd Lagrangian

A supersymmetric $D = 1, N =1$ model with a Grassmann-odd Lagrangian is proposed which, in contrast to the model with an even Lagrangian, contains not only a kinetic term but also an interaction term for the coordinates entering into one real scalar Grassmann-even (bosonic) superfield.

Structure of the Three-dimensional Quantum Euclidean Space

As an example of a noncommutative space we discuss the quantum 3-dimensional Euclidean space $R^3_q$ together with its symmetry structure in great detail. The algebraic structure and the representation theory are clarified and discrete spectra for the coordinates are found. The q-deformed Legendre functions play a special role. A completeness relation is derived for these functions.

q-Deformed Heisenberg Algebras

This lecture consists of two sections. In section 1 we consider the simplest version of a q-deformed Heisenberg algebra as an example of a noncommutative structure. We first derive a calculus entirely based on the algebra and then formulate laws of physics based on this calculus. Then we realize that an interpretation of these laws is only possible if we study representations of the algebra and adopt the quantum mechanical scheme. It turns out that observables like position or momentum have discrete eigenvalues and thus space gets a lattice-like structure. In section 2 we study a framework for higher dimensional noncommutative spaces based on quantum groups. The Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt property and conjugation properties play an essential role there. In these spaces derivatives are introduced and based on these derivatives a q-deformed Heisenberg algebra can be constructed.

The Geometry of a $q$-Deformed Phase Space

The geometry of the $q$-deformed line is studied. A real differential calculus is introduced and the associated algebra of forms represented on a Hilbert space. It is found that there is a natural metric with an associated linear connection which is of zero curvature. The metric, which is formally defined in terms of differential forms, is in this simple case identifiable as an observable.

A Calculus Based on a q-deformed Heisenberg Algebra

We show how one can construct a differential calculus over an algebra where position variables x and momentum variables p have be defined. As the simplest example we consider the one-dimensional q-deformed Heisenberg algebra. This algebra has a subalgebra generated by x and its inverse which we call the coordinate algebra. A physical field is considered to be an element of the completion of this algebra. We can construct a derivative which leaves invariant the coordinate algebra and so takes physical fields into physical fields. A generalized Leibniz rule for this algebra can be found. Based on this derivative differential forms and an exterior differential calculus can be constructed.

q-Deformed Minkowski Space based on a q-Lorentz Algebra

The Hilbert space representations of a non-commutative q-deformed Minkowski space, its momenta and its Lorentz boosts are constructed. The spectrum of the diagonalizable space elements shows a lattice-like structure with accumulation points on the light-cone.

Non-commutative Euclidean and Minkowski Structure

A noncommutative *-algebra that generalizes the canonical commutation relations and that is covariant under the quantum groups SOq(3) or SOq(1,3) is introduced. The generating elements of this algebra are hermitean and can be identified with coordinates, momenta and angular momenta. In addition a unitary scaling operator is part of the algebra.

Quantum groups and q-lattices in phase space

Quantum groups lead to an algebraic structure that can be realized on quantum spaces. These are noncommutative spaces that inherit a well defined mathematical structure from the quantum group symmetry. In turn such quantum spaces can be interpreted as noncommutative configuration spaces for physical systems which carry a symmetry like structure. These configuration spaces will be generalized to noncommutative phase space. The definition of the noncommutative phase space will be based on a differential calculus on the configuration space which is compatible with the symmetry. In addition a conjugation operation will be defined which will allow us to define the phase space variables in terms of algebraically selfadjoint operators. An interesting property of the phase space observables will be that they will have a discrete spectrum. These noncommutative phase space puts physics on a lattice structure.

A q-Deformation of the Harmonic Oscillator

The q-deformed harmonic oscillator is studied in the light of q-deformed phase space variables. This allows a formulation of the corresponding Hamiltonian in terms of the ordinary canonical variables $x$ and $p$. The spectrum shows unexpected features such as degeneracy and an additional part that cannot be reached from the ground state by creation operators. The eigenfunctions show lattice structure, as expected.

q-deformed Phase Space and its Lattice Structure

A q-deformed two-dimensional phase space is studied as a model for a noncommutative phase space. A lattice structure arises that can be interpreted as a spontaneous breaking of a continuous symmetry. The eigenfunctions of a Hamiltonian that lives on such a lattice are derived as wavefunctions in ordinary $x$-space.

Dynamical Symmetries in q-deformed Quantum Mechanics

The dynamical algebra of the q-deformed harmonic oscillator is constructed. As a result, we find the free deformed Hamiltonian as well as the Hamiltonian of the deformed oscillator as a complicated, momentum dependent interaction Hamiltonian in terms of the usual canonical variables. Furthermore we construct a well-defined algebra SU$_q$(1,1) with consistent conjugation properties and comultiplication. We obtain non lowest weight representations of this algebra.
