Nuclear Parton Distribution Functions

We study nuclear effects of charged current deep inelastic neutrino-iron scattering in the framework of a chi^2 analysis of parton distribution functions (PDFs). We extract a set of iron PDFs which are used to compute x_Bj-dependent and Q^2-dependent nuclear correction factors for iron structure functions which are required in global analyses of free nucleon PDFs. We compare our results with nuclear correction factors from neutrino-nucleus scattering models and correction factors for charged-lepton--iron scattering. We find that, except for very high x_Bj, our correction factors differ in both shape and magnitude from the correction factors of the models and charged-lepton scattering.

Nuclear PDFs from neutrino deep inelastic scattering

We study nuclear effects in charged current deep inelastic neutrino-iron scattering in the frame-work of a chi^2 analysis of parton distribution functions. We extract a set of iron PDFs and show that under reasonable assumptions it is possible to constrain the valence, light sea and strange quark distributions. Our iron PDFs are used to compute x_{Bj}-dependent and Q^2-dependent nuclear correction factors for iron structure functions which are required in global analyses of free nucleon PDFs. We compare our results with nuclear correction factors from neutrino-nucleus scattering models and correction factors for charged lepton-iron scattering. We find that, except for very high x_{Bj}, our correction factors differ in both shape and magnitude from the correction factors of the models and charged-lepton scattering.

Pion Rescattering in Nuclei

Nuclear corrections are presented for neutrino and electron induced reactions in a pedagogical manner. The formalism is demonstrated with numerical studies and is shown to produce substantial corrections in channels where the pions have the same charge with the exchanged current. Two comparisons with available data show consistency of the model. Further studies along these lines will improve the accuracy of the results and enhance the discovery potential of experiments.

Comparison of a new Delta resonance production model with electron and neutrino data

We consider resonance production by neutrinos focusing on the dominant resonance $P_{33}$ at low energies with a detailed discussion of its form factors. The results are presented for free nucleon targets. The $Δ$ resonance is described by two form factors $C_3^V$ and $C_5^A$ and its differential cross sections are compared with experimental data. Further, we apply this approach to the electroproduction case and calculate its differential cross sections which are compared with electroproduction experimental data. Our approach to the analysis of $Δ$ resonance is particularly simple and self-contained such that it could be helpful for the physical interpretation.

Neutrino Interactions In Oscillation Experiments

We calculate neutrino induced cross-sections relevant for oscillation experiments, including the $τ$-lepton threshold for quasi-elastic, resonance and deep inelastic scattering. In addition to threshold effects, we include nuclear corrections for heavy targets which are moderate for quasi-elastic and large for single pion production. Nuclear effects for deep inelastic reactions are small. We present cross sections together with their nuclear corrections for various channels which are useful for interpreting the experimental results and for determining parameters of the neutrino sector..

Single Pion Production in Neutrino Reactions and Estimates for Charge-Exchange Effects

We calculate single pion production by neutrinos in the resonance region. We consider both charged and neutral current reactions on free protons and neutrons. We present differential and total cross sections which can be compared with experiments. Then we use these results to calculate the spectra of the emerging pions including the Pauli suppression factor and rescattering corrections for reactions in heavy nuclei. Our results will be useful for studying single pion production and for investigating neutrino oscillations in future experiments.
