Chemical Diffusion at Mixed Ionic Electronic Semiconductor Interfaces and comparison with La2NiO4+d epitaxial thin films

A simple model to describe Mixed Ionic Electronic Conductors (MIEC) in terms of standard semiconductor physics is described. This model allows to understand defect equilibrium and charge transport at ideal heterojunctions between materials simultaneously conducting electronic and ionic point defects and to explore how rectifying effects on the electronic or ionic currents may affect the chemical diffusion and voltage at the interfaces under polarization. We found qualitatively good agreement with experimental measurements of the electrical conductivity relaxation of La2NiO4+d thin films epitaxially grown on NdGaO3 (110) substrates when the possible oxygen exchange between film and substrate is taken into account. We discuss the implications of this model to understand space charge layer formation and chemical diffusion on oxide thin film heterostructures when exposed to high temperatures and different oxygen partial pressures.

Gravity-induced Wannier-Stark ladder in an optical lattice

We discuss the dynamics of ultracold atoms in an optical potential accelerated by gravity. The positions and widths of the Wannier-Stark ladder of resonances are obtained as metastable states. The metastable Wannier-Bloch states oscillate in a single band with the Bloch period. The width of the resonance gives the rate transition to the continuum.

Higher-order mutual coherence of optical and matter waves

We use an operational approach to discuss ways to measure the higher-order cross-correlations between optical and matter-wave fields. We pay particular attention to the fact that atomic fields actually consist of composite particles that can easily be separated into their basic constituents by a detection process such as photoionization. In the case of bosonic fields, that we specifically consider here, this leads to the appearance in the detection signal of exchange contributions due to both the composite bosonic field and its individual fermionic constituents. We also show how time-gated counting schemes allow to isolate specific contributions to the signal, in particular involving different orderings of the Schrödinger and Maxwell fields.
