TAUOLA update for decay channels with $e^+e^-$ pairs in the final state

With the arrival of high luminosity B-factories like the Belle II experiment, $τ$ decay measurements have become more precise than ever, allowing rarer processes to be explored, and finer details of $τ$ decays to be studied. These are important to understand the spectrum of intermediate particles produced in $τ$ decays. Therefore Monte Carlo generators, like the TAUOLA program, have to facilitate precision analysis as well as confront new models that constantly emerge with the availability of high statistics experimental data. New decay channels and models may lead to large variation of matrix elements size within the available phase space, as in the case when $e^+e^-$ pairs are present in final state. It requires appropriate presampler of the phase space generator and a proper documentation to help users introduce their own models. While releasing a new update, it is important for the TAUOLA Monte Carlo library to maintain the general structure of the previous versions to preserve backward compatibility. The aim is to minimize changes from the user perspective. This paper presents a demonstration of new models implementation facilitated by the current update.

Photoionization cross sections of the 5S${}_{1/2}$ and 5P${}_{3/2}$ states of Rb in simultaneous magneto-optical trapping of Rb and Hg

We report the measurement of the photoionization cross sections of the 5S${}_{1/2}$ and 5P${}_{3/2}$ states of ${}^{87}$Rb in a two-species Hg and Rb magneto-optical trap (MOT) by the cooling laser for Hg. The photoionization cross sections of Rb in the 5S${}_{1/2}$ and 5P${}_{3/2}$ states at 253.7~nm are determined to be $1^{+4.3}_{-1}\times10^{-20}~\text{cm}^2$ and $4.63(30)\times 10^{-18}\text{cm}^2$, respectively. To measure the 5S${}_{1/2}$ and 5P${}_{3/2}$ states fractions in the MOT we detected photoionization rate of the 5P${}_{3/2}$ state by an additional 401.5~nm laser. The photoionization cross section of Rb in the 5P${}_{3/2}$ state at 401.5~nm is determined to be $\text{1.18(10)}\times10^{-17}~\text{cm}^2$.

TAUOLA of tau lepton decays-- framework for hadronic currens, matrix elements and anomalous decays

We present an update of the Monte Carlo event generator TAUOLA for tau lepton decays, with substantially increased list of decay channels and new initialization options. The core of the program remains written in FORTRAN but necessary arrangements have been made to allow handling of the user-provided hadronic currents and matrix elements at the execution time. Such solution may simplify preparation of new hadronic currents and may be useful for fitting to the experimental data as well. We have implemented as default for TAUOLA a set of hadronic currents, which is compatible with the default initialization used by BaBar collaboration. Options for currents available in previous releases are still stored in the code, sometimes left defunct or activated by internal flags only. The new version of the program, includes also implementation of Lepton Flavour Violating tau decays. Finally, we present, as an example, a set of C++ methods for handling user-provided currents, matrix elements or complete new decay channels initialization which can be performed at the program execution time.

Cross-Phase Modulation and Population Redistribution in a Periodic Tripod Medium

The cross-Kerr effect is studied for two pulses propagating in an atomic medium in a tripod configuration, dressed by a strong standing wave coupling beam. Nonlinear phase shifts for both transmitted and reflected beams are calculated taking into account the redistribution of the population among the atomic levels which allows one to study the phase shifts in a wide range of pulse detunings. The influence of other parameters, e.g., the intensity of the control field and the relaxation rates, on the cross-Kerr effect is also examined in detail.

Quantum logical gates operating on stored light

An implementation is proposed of single qubit gates, e.g., phase, NOT, \sqrt{NOT} and Hadamard, operating on polarized photons and based on light storage. Instead of processing photons themselves, qubit transformations are performed on atomic excitations due to photon storage in a medium of atoms in the tripod configuration.

Controlling statistical properties of stored light

Statistical properties of outgoing light pulses are studies after they have been stored in a medium of atoms in the tripod configuration. A generalized Hong-Ou-Mandel interference, storing of squeezed states and homodyne signal analysis are discussed in the context of their dependence on the parameters of the control fields used for light storage and release.

Beam splitting and Hong-Ou-Mandel interference for stored light

Storing and release of a quantum light pulse in a medium of atoms in the tripod configuration are studied. Two complementary sets of control fields are defined, which lead to independent and complete photon release at two stages. The system constitutes a new kind of a flexible beam splitter in which the input and output ports concern photons of the same direction but well separated in time. A new version of Hong-Ou-Mandel interference is discussed.

Electromagnetically induced transparency for Lambda - like systems with a structured continuum

Electric susceptibility of a laser-dressed atomic medium is calculated for a model Lambda - like system including two lower states and a continuum structured by a presence of an autoionizing state or a continuum with a laser-induced structure. Depending on the strength of a control field it is possible to obtain a significant reduction of the light velocity in a narrow frequency window in the conditions of a small absorption. A smooth transition is shown between the case of a flat continuum and that of a discrete state serving as the upper state of a Lambda system.

Light storing in a medium of atoms in the tripod configuration

Light propagation and storing in a medium of atoms in the tripod configuration driven by two control pulses are investigated theoretically in terms of two polaritons and numerically. It is shown that a magnetic field switched on at the pulse storage stage changes the phase relations between the atomic coherences due to the stored pulse, which leads to an essential modification of the released pulse. Quantitative relations concerning the released pulse and the coherences are given. A general situation when the two control fields are not proportional at the pulse release stage is also examined. It is shown that in both cases a single dark state polariton is not sufficient to account for the pulse evolution, which is connected with the fact that a part of the signal remains in the medium after the release stage.

Light slowdown in the vicinity of cross-over resonances

Pulse propagation is considered in an inhomogeneously broadened medium of three-level atoms in a V-configuration, dressed by a counter-propagating pump pulse. A significant signal slowdown is demonstrated in this of the three frequency windows of a reduced absorption and a steep normal dispersion, which is due to a cross-over resonance. Particular properties of the group index in the vicinity of such a resonance are demonstrated in the case of closely spaced upper levels.

Electromagnetically-induced transparency and light storing of a pair of pulses

Electromagnetically-induced transparency and light storing are studied in the case of a medium of atoms in a double Lambda configuration, both in terms of dark- and bright-state polatitons and atomic susceptibility. It is proven that the medium can be made transparent simultaneously for two pulses following their self-adjusting so that a condition for an adiabatic evolution has become fulfilled. Analytic formulas are given for the shapes and phases of the transmitted/stored pulses. The level of transparency can be regulated by adjusting the heights and phases of the control fields.

Photodetachment in superintense fields: the problem of stabilization and a role of rescattering wavepacket's fragments

Photodetachment in ultrastrong laser field in two spatial dimensions is investigated numerically. The problem of an adiabatic stabilization is discussed, in particular it is shown that a quick drift in the direction of the electric field and a magnetic drift cannot be avoided simultaneously. A qualitative behavior of the packet for a short-range binding potential is contrasted with that for a soft-core potential, in particular dynamical effects due to a rescattering of the fragments separated from the main packet are demonstrated.

Coherent processing of a light pulse stored in a medium of four-level atoms

It is demonstrated that the properties of light stored in a four-level atomic system can be modified by an additional control interaction present during the storage stage. By choosing the pulse area of this interaction one can in particular continuously switch between two channels into which light is released.

Controlled light storage in a double lambda system

It is shown theoretically that after light storing in a medium of four-level atoms it is possible to release a new pulse of a different frequency, the process being steered by another driving beam. It is also possible to store one pulse and to release two different ones, with their time separation and heights being controlled.
