On $R+αR^2$ Loop Quantum Cosmology

Working in Einstein frame we introduce, in order to avoid singularities, holonomy corrections to the $f(R)=R+αR^2$ model. We perform a detailed analytical and numerical study when holonomy corrections are taken into account in both Jordan and Einstein frames obtaining, in Jordan frame, a dynamics which differs qualitatively, at early times, from the one of the original model. More precisely, when holonomy corrections are taken into account the universe is not singular, starting at early times in the contracting phase and bouncing to enter in the expanding one where, as in the original model, it inflates. This dynamics is completely different from the one obtained in the original $R+αR^2$ model, where the universe is singular at early times and never bounces. Moreover, we show that these holonomy corrections may lead to better predictions for the inflationary phase as compared with current observations.

Brane cosmology from observational surveys and its comparison with standard FRW cosmology

Several dark energy models on the brane are investigated. They are compared with corresponding theories in the frame of 4d Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology. To constrain the parameters of the models considered, recent observational data, including SNIa apparent magnitude measurements, baryon acoustic oscillation results, Hubble parameter evolution data and matter density perturbations are used. Explicit formulas of the so-called {\it state-finder} parameters in teleparallel theories are obtained that could be useful to test these models and to establish a link between Loop Quantum Cosmology and Brane Cosmology. It is concluded that a joint analysis as the one developed here allows to estimate, in a very convenient way, possible deviation of the real universe cosmology from the standard Friedmann-Robertson-Walker one.

Sudden singularities in semiclassical gravity

It has been claimed in a recent paper \cite{bbfhd12} that sudden singularities will survive in semiclassical gravity. This issue is here carefully reviewed, pointing out that such conclusion, even if valid under some specific conditions, does not stand in other cases. An explicit example is studied in detail to support our statement, stemming from these other situations, that quantum effects may in fact drastically modify the behavior of sudden singularities.
