B_K with dynamical overlap fermions

We report on a calculation of $B_K$ with two-flavor dynamical overlap fermions on a $16^3 \times 32$ lattice at $a\sim 0.12$ fm. The results are compared with the PQChPT prediction of quark mass dependence. The systematic errors due to finite volume effects and fixing topology are discussed.

2+1 flavor light hadron spectrum and quark masses with the O(a) improved Wilson-clover quark formalism

We present a summary of results of the joint CP-PACS and JLQCD project toward a 2+1 flavor full QCD simulation with the O(a)-improved Wilson quark formalism and the Iwasaki gauge action. Configurations were generated during 2002-2005 at three lattice spacings, a~0.076, 0.100 and 0.122 fm, keeping the physical volume constant at (2.0fm)^3. Up and down quark masses are taken in the range m_{PS}/m_V~0.6-0.78. We have completed the analysis for the light meson spectrum and quark masses in the continuum limit using the full configuration set. The predicted meson masses reproduce experimental values in the continuum limit at a 1% level. The average up and down, and strange quark masses turn out to be m_{ud}^{\bar{MS}}(μ=2 GeV)=3.50(14)({}^{+26}_{-15}) MeV and m_s^{\bar{MS}}(μ=2 GeV)=91.8(3.9)({}^{+6.8}_{-4.1}) MeV. We discuss our future strategy toward definitive results on hadron spectroscopy with the Wilson-clover formalism.

Mobility edge and locality of the overlap-Dirac operator with and without dynamical overlap fermions

We perform a systematic study of low-lying eigenmodes of $H_w$ with various gauge actions to find the optimal choice for dynamical overlap fermion simulations, with which one may achieve lower numerical cost for HMC and better locality property of the overlap kernel. For this purpose, our study is made with emphasis on the distribution of low-lying eigenvalues and the mobility edge with and without dynamical overlap fermions.

JLQCD's dynamical overlap project

We present an overview of our project of large-scale simulations with dynamical overlap fermions. The first production run in two-flavor QCD is on-going using the Iwasaki gauge action on a 16^3 \times 32 lattice at the lattice spacing of 0.12fm with six sea quark masses down to m_{s,phys}/6, where m_{s,phys} is the physical strange quark mass. We briefly introduce our choice of the lattice action and simulation algorithm, and describe the present status of the production run. Preliminary results on the light meson masses and the static quark potential are also reported.

Improvement of algorithms for dynamical overlap fermions

We investigate the algorithms for dynamical overlap fermions aiming at improving the performance for large-scale simulations. We look for the best combination of Hybrid Monte Carlo options and iterative quark solvers with respect to the numerical costs. Our main target is a $N_f=2$ simulation with overlap fermion on a $16^3\times 32$ lattice at lattice spacing around 0.12 fm.

Kaon semileptonic decay form factors in two-flavor QCD

We present a calculation of the kaon form factors in two-flavor QCD with the non-perturbatively $O(a)$-improved Wilson quark action. In order to achieve a few percent accuracy in the study of SU(3) breaking effects, we use a set of double ratios of the matrix elements, with which the bulk of the statistical fluctuation and the multiplicative renormalization factors cancel.

B-Bbar mixing in unquenched lattice QCD

We present an unquenched lattice calculation for the $B^0-\bar{B}^0$ transition amplitude. The calculation, carried out at an inverse lattice spacing $1/a$ = 2.22(4) GeV, incorporates two flavors of dynamical quarks described by the fully $O(a)$-improved Wilson fermion action and heavy quarks described by NRQCD. A particular attention is paid to the uncertainty that arises from the chiral extrapolation, especially the effect of pion loops, for light quarks, which we find could be sizable for the leptonic decay of the $B_d$ meson, whereas it is small for the $B_s$ meson and the $B$ parameters. We obtain $f_{B_d}=191(10)(^{+12}_{-22})$ MeV, $f_{B_s}/f_{B_d}=1.13(3)(^{+13}_{-\ 2})$, $B_{B_d}(m_b)=0.836(27)(^{+56}_{-62})$, $B_{B_s}/B_{B_d}=1.017(16)(^{+56}_{-17})$, $ξ=1.14(3)(^{+13}_{- 2})$, where the first error is statistical, and the second is systematic, including uncertainties due to chiral extrapolation, finite lattice spacing, heavy quark expansion and perturbative operator matching.

Light hadron spectrum in three-flavor QCD with O(a)-improved Wilson quark action

We report on a calculation of the light hadron spectrum and quark masses in three-flavor dynamical QCD using the non-perturbatively O(a)-improved Wilson quark action and a renormalization-group improved gauge action. Simulations are carried out on a 16^3 \times 32 lattice at β=1.9, where a^{-1} \simeq 2GeV, with 6 ud quark masses corresponding to m_{pi}/m_{rho} \simeq 0.64-0.77 and 2 s quark masses close to the physical value. We observe that the inclusion of dynamical strange quark brings the lattice QCD meson spectrum to good agreement with experiment. Dynamical strange quarks also lead to a reduction of the uds quark masses by about 15%.

Study of finite volume effects in the non-perturbative determination of $\csw$ with the SF method in full three-flavor lattice QCD

The non-perturbative $\csw$ determined by the Schrödinger functional (SF) method with the RG-improved gauge action in dynamical $N_f=3$ QCD shows a finite volume effect when the numerical simulations are carried out at a constant lattice size $L/a$. We remove the unwanted finite volume effect by keeping physical lattice extent $L$ at a constant. The details of the method and the result obtained for non-perturbative $\csw$ with a constant $L$ are reported.

Light hadron spectroscopy with two flavors of $O(a)$-improved dynamical quarks

We present a high statistics study of the light hadron spectrum and quark masses in QCD with two flavors of dynamical quarks. Numerical simulations are carried out using the plaquette gauge action and the O(a)-improved Wilson quark action at β=5.2, where the lattice spacing is found to be a=0.0887(11)fm from ρmeson mass, on a 20^3\times 48 lattice. At each of five sea quark masses corresponding to m_{PS}/m_{V} \simeq 0.8-0.6, we generate 12000 trajectories using the symmetrically preconditioned Hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm. Finite spatial volume effects are investigated employing 12^3 \times 48, 16^3 \times 48 lattices. We also perform a set of simulations in quenched QCD with the same lattice actions at a similar lattice spacing to those for the full QCD runs. In the meson sector we find clear evidence of sea quark effects. The J parameter increases for lighter sea quark masses, and the full QCD meson masses are systematically closer to experiment than in quenched QCD. Careful finite-size studies are made to ascertain that these are not due to finite-size effects. Evidence of sea quark effects is less clear in the baryon sector due to larger finite-size effects. We also calculate light quark masses and find m_{ud}^{MS}(2GeV) =3.223(+0.046/-0.069)MeV and m_s^{MS}(2GeV)=84.5(+12.0/-1.7)MeV which are about 20% smaller than in quenched QCD.

Heavy quark expansion parameters from lattice NRQCD

We present a lattice QCD calculation of the heavy quark expansion parameters $μ_π^2$ and $μ_G^2$ for heavy-light mesons and heavy-light-light baryons. The calculation is carried out on a 20$^3\times$48 lattice at $β$ = 6.0 in the quenched approximation, using the lattice NRQCD action for heavy quarks. We obtain the parameters $μ_π^2$ and $μ_G^2$ in two different methods: a direct calculation of the matrix elements and an indirect calculation through the mass spectrum, and confirm that the both methods give consistent results. We also discuss an application to the lifetime ratios.

$B^0-\bar{B}^0$ mixing in quenched lattice QCD

We present our results of lattice calculations of $B$ parameters, which parameterize $ΔB$=2 transition amplitudes together with the leptonic decay constant. Calculations are made in the quenched approximation at $β$=5.7, 5.9, 6.0 and 6.1, using NRQCD action for heavy quark and the $O(a)$-improved Wilson action for light quark. The operators are perturbatively renormalized including the correction of $O(α_s/(aM)^m)$ ($m\ge$0). We examine the scaling behavior of $B$ parameters, and discuss the systematic uncertainties based on the results with several different truncations of higher order terms in 1/M and $α_s$ expansions. We find $B_{B_d}(m_b)=0.84(3)(5)$, $B_{B_s}/B_{B_d}=1.020(21)(^{+15}_{-16})(^{+5}_{-0})$ and $B_{S_s}(m_b)=0.85(1)(5)(^{+1}_{-0})$ in the quenched approximation. The errors represent statistical and systematic as well as the uncertainty in the determination of strange quark mass.

I=2 Pion Scattering Length with the Wilson Fermion

The calculation of the I=2 pion scattering length in quenched lattice QCD is revisited. The calculation is carried out with the Wilson fermion action employing Lüscher's finite size scaling method at $β=5.9$, 6.1, and 6.3 corresponding to the range of lattice spacing $a\simeq 0.12 - 0.07$ fm. We obtain in the continuum limit $a_0m_π= -0.0410(69)$, which is consistent with the prediction of chiral perturbation theory $a_0m_π=-0.0444(10)$.

We present the final results of the JLQCD calculation of the light hadron spectrum and quark masses with two flavors of dynamical quarks using the plaquette gauge action and fully $O(a)$-improved Wilson quark action at $β=5.2$. We observe that sea quark effects lead to a closer agreement of the strange meson and baryon masses with experiment and a reduction of quark masses by about 25.

An exact Polynomial Hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm for dynamical Kogut-Susskind fermions

We present a polynomial Hybrid Monte Carlo (PHMC) algorithm as an exact simulation algorithm with dynamical Kogut-Susskind fermions. The algorithm uses a Hermitian polynomial approximation for the fractional power of the KS fermion matrix. The systematic error from the polynomial approximation is removed by the Kennedy-Kuti noisy Metropolis test so that the algorithm becomes exact at a finite molecular dynamics step size. We performed numerical tests with $N_f$$=$2 case on several lattice sizes. We found that the PHMC algorithm works on a moderately large lattice of $16^4$ at $β$$=$5.7, $m$$=$0.02 ($m_{\mathrm{PS}}/m_{\mathrm{V}}$$\sim$0.69) with a reasonable computational time.

Polynomial Hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm for lattice QCD with an odd number of flavors

We present a polynomial hybrid Monte Carlo (PHMC) algorithm for lattice QCD with odd numbers of flavors of O(a)-improved Wilson quark action. The algorithm makes use of the non-Hermitian Chebyshev polynomial to approximate the inverse square root of the fermion matrix required for an odd number of flavors. The systematic error from the polynomial approximation is removed by a noisy Metropolis test for which a new method is developed. Investigating the property of our PHMC algorithm in the N_f=2 QCD case, we find that it is as efficient as the conventional HMC algorithm for a moderately large lattice size (16^3 times 48) with intermediate quark masses (m_{PS}/m_V ~ 0.7-0.8). We test our odd-flavor algorithm through extensive simulations of two-flavor QCD treated as an N_f = 1+1 system, and comparing the results with those of the established algorithms for N_f=2 QCD. These tests establish that our PHMC algorithm works on a moderately large lattice size with intermediate quark masses (16^3 times 48, m_{PS}/m_V ~ 0.7-0.8). Finally we experiment with the (2+1)-flavor QCD simulation on small lattices (4^3 times 8 and 8^3 times 16), and confirm the agreement of our results with those obtained with the R algorithm and extrapolated to a zero molecular dynamics step size.

Heavy quark expansion parameters from lattice NRQCD

Using the lattice NRQCD action for heavy quark, we calculate the heavy quark expansion parameters $μ_π^2$ and $μ_G^2$ for heavy-light mesons and heavy-light-light baryons. The results are compared with the mass differences among heavy hadrons to test the validity of HQET relations on the lattice.

Exploration of sea quark effects in two-flavor QCD with the O(a)-improved Wilson quark action

We explore sea quark effects in the light hadron mass spectrum in a simulation of two-flavor QCD using the nonperturbatively O(a)-improved Wilson fermion action. In order to identify finite-size effects, light meson masses are measured on 12^3x48, 16^3x48 and 20^3x48 lattices with a~0.1 fm. On the largest lattice, where the finite-size effect is negligible, we find a significant increase of the strange vector meson mass compared to the quenched approximation. We also investigate the quark mass dependence of pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants and test the consistency with (partially quenched) chiral perturbation theory.
