New physics solutions for $R_D$ and $R_{D^*}$

Recent measurements of $R_{D^*}$ have reduced tension with the Standard Model prediction. Taking all the present data into account, we obtain the values of the Wilson coefficients of each new physics four-fermion operator of a given Lorentz structure. We find that the combined data rule out most of the solutions based on scalar/pseudoscalar operators. By studying the inter-relations between different solutions, we find that there are only four allowed solutions, which are based on operators with $(V-A)$, linear combination of $(V-A)$ and $(V+A)$, tensor and linear combination of scalar/pseudoscalar and tensor structure. We demonstrate that the need for new physics is driven by those measurement of $R_D$ and $R_{D^*}$ where the $τ$ lepton is not studied. Further, we show that new physics only in $b\rightarrow c\,μ\,\barν$ is not compatible with the full set of observables in the decays $B\rightarrow Dl\barν$ and $B\rightarrow D^*l\barν$.

WCxf: an exchange format for Wilson coefficients beyond the Standard Model

We define a data exchange format for numerical values of Wilson coefficients of local operators parameterising low-energy effects of physics beyond the Standard Model. The format facilitates interfacing model-specific Wilson coefficient calculators, renormalisation group (RG) runners, and observable calculators. It is designed to be unambiguous (defining a non-redundant set of operators with fixed normalisation in each basis), extensible (allowing the addition of new EFTs or bases by the user), and robust (being based on industry standard file formats with parsers implemented in many programming languages). We have implemented the format for the Standard Model EFT (SMEFT) and for the weak effective theory (WET) below the electroweak scale and have added interfaces to a number of public codes dealing with SMEFT or WET. We also provide command-line utilities and a Python module for convenient manipulation of WCxf files, including translation between different bases and matching from SMEFT to WET.

New light mediators for the $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ puzzles

The measurements of $R_{K}$ and $R_K^{*}$ provide hints for the violation of lepton universality. However, it is generally difficult to explain the $R_{K^*}$ measurement in the low $q^2$ range, $0.045 \le q^2 \le 1.1$ GeV$^2$. Light mediators offer a solution by making the Wilson coefficients $q^2$ dependent. We check if new lepton nonuniversal interactions mediated by a scalar ($S$) or vector particle ($Z^\prime$) of mass between $10-200$ MeV can reproduce the data. We find that a 25 MeV $Z^\prime$ with a $q^2$-dependent $b-s$ coupling and that couples to the electron but not the muon can explain all three anomalies in conjunction with other measurements. A similar 25 MeV $S$ provides a good fit to all relevant data except $R_{K^*}$ in the low $q^2$ bin. A 25 MeV $Z^\prime$ with a $q^2$-dependent $b-s$ coupling and that couples to the muon but not the electron provides a good fit to the combination of the $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ data, but does not fit $R_{K^*}$ in the low $q^2$ bin well.

New Physics in $b \to s μ^+ μ^-$ after the Measurement of $R_{K^*}$

The recent measurement of $R_{K^*}$ is yet another hint of new physics (NP), and supports the idea that it is present in $b\to sμ^+μ^-$ decays. We perform a combined model-independent and model-dependent analysis in order to deduce properties of this NP. Like others, we find that the NP must obey one of two scenarios: (I) $C_9^{μμ}({\rm NP}) < 0$ or (II) $C_9^{μμ}({\rm NP}) = - C_{10}^{μμ}({\rm NP}) < 0$. A third scenario, (III) $C_9^{μμ}({\rm NP}) = - C_{9}^{\prime μμ}({\rm NP})$, is rejected largely because it predicts $R_K = 1$, in disagreement with experiment. The simplest NP models involve the tree-level exchange of a leptoquark (LQ) or a $Z'$ boson. We show that scenario (II) can arise in LQ or $Z'$ models, but scenario (I) is only possible with a $Z'$. Fits to $Z'$ models must take into account the additional constraints from $B^0_s$-${\bar B}^0_s$ mixing and neutrino trident production. Although the LQs must be heavy, O(TeV), we find that the $Z'$ can be light, e.g., $M_{Z'} = 10$ GeV or 200 MeV.

Detection prospects of light pseudoscalar Higgs boson at the LHC

The discovery potential of light pseudo scalar Higgs boson for the mass range 10-60 GeV is explored. In the context of the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard(NMSSM) model, the branching fraction of light pseudo scalar Higgs boson decaying to a pair of photon can be quite large. A pair of light pseudo scalar Higgs boson produced indirectly through the standard model Higgs boson decay yields multiple photons in the final state and the corresponding production rate is restricted by ATLAS data. Discussing the impact of this constraint in the NMSSM, the detection prospects of light pseudoscalar Higgs boson in the channel consisting of at least three photons, a lepton and missing transverse energy are reported. It is observed that the possibilities of finding the pseudoscalar Higgs boson for the above mass range are promising for an integrated luminosity $\mathcal{L}=100 \text{fb}^{-1}$ with moderate significances, which can reach to more than 5$σ$ for higher luminosity options.

New Physics in $b \rightarrow s μ^+ μ^-$: Distinguishing Models through CP-Violating Effects

At present, there are several measurements of $B$ decays that exhibit discrepancies with the predictions of the SM, and suggest the presence of new physics (NP) in $b \to s μ^+ μ^-$ transitions. Many NP models have been proposed as explanations. These involve the tree-level exchange of a leptoquark (LQ) or a flavor-changing $Z'$ boson. In this paper we examine whether it is possible to distinguish the various models via CP-violating effects in $B \to K^{(*)} μ^+ μ^-$. Using fits to the data, we find the following results. Of all possible LQ models, only three can explain the data, and these are all equivalent as far as $b \to s μ^+ μ^-$ processes are concerned. In this single LQ model, the weak phase of the coupling can be large, leading to some sizeable CP asymmetries in $B \to K^{(*)} μ^+ μ^-$. There is a spectrum of $Z'$ models; the key parameter is $g_L^{μμ}$, which describes the strength of the $Z'$ coupling to $μ^+μ^-$. If $g_L^{μμ}$ is small (large), the constraints from $B^0_s$-${\bar B}^0_s$ mixing are stringent (weak), leading to a small (large) value of the NP weak phase, and corresponding small (large) CP asymmetries. We therefore find that the measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in $B \to K^{(*)} μ^+ μ^-$ can indeed distinguish among NP $b \to s μ^+ μ^-$ models

MSSM vs. NMSSM in $ΔF=2$ transitions

We study deviations between MSSM and NMSSM in the predictions of $ΔF=2$ processes. We found that there can be two sources which can cause such deviations, \emph{i.e}, due to certain neutralino-gluino cross box diagrams and due to well known double penguin diagrams. Both are effective at large $\tan β$. In addition to this, taking into account 8 TeV direct search constraints from the heavy Higgs searches, we study the maximum allowed MFV like new physics (NP) effects on $ΔM_s$ in the two models. In NMSSM such NP effects can be as large as $25 \%$, on the other hand in MSSM such large contributions are severely constrained.

Diphoton Signal of light pseudoscalar in NMSSM at the LHC

We explore the detection possibility of light pseudoscalar Higgs boson in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric Standard Model(NMSSM) at the LHC with the center of mass energy, $\sqrt{S}=13$ TeV. We focus on the parameter space which provides one of the Higgs boson as the SM-like with a mass of 125 GeV and some of the non-SM-like Higgs bosons can be light having suppressed couplings with fermions and gauge bosons due to their singlet nature. It is observed that for certain region of model parameter space, the singlet like light pseudoscalar can decay to di-photon($γγ$) channel with a substantial branching ratio. In this study, we consider this di-photon signal of light pseudoscalar Higgs boson producing it through the chargino-neutralino production and the subsequent decay of neutralino. We consider signal consisting of two photons plus missing energy along with a lepton from the chargino decay. Performing a detailed simulation of the signal and backgrounds including detector effects, we present results for a few benchmark points corresponding to the pseudoscalar Higgs boson mass in the range 60 -100 GeV. Our studies indicate that some of the benchmark points in the parameter space can be probed with a reasonable significance for 100 fb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity. We also conclude that exploiting this channel it is possible to distinguish the NMSSM from the other supersymmetric models.

Distinguishing between MSSM and NMSSM through $ΔF=2$ processes

We study deviations between MSSM and $Z_3$-invariant NMSSM, with respect to their predictions in $ΔF=2 $ processes. We find that potentially significant effects arise either from the well known double-penguin diagrams, due to the extra scalar NMSSM states, or from neutralino-gluino box contributions, due to the extended neutralino sector. Both are discussed to be effective in the large $\tanβ$ regime. Enhanced genuine-NMSSM contributions in double penguins are expected for a light singlet spectrum (CP-even,CP-odd), while the magnitude of box effects is primarily controlled through singlino mixing. The latter is found to be typically subleading (but non-negligible) for $λ\lesssim 0.5$, however it can become dominant for $λ\sim \mathcal{O}(1)$. We also study the low $\tanβ$ regime, where a distinction between MSSM and NMSSM can come instead due to experimental constraints, acting differently on the allowed parameter space of each model. To this end, we incorporate the LHC Run-I limits from $H\rightarrow Z Z$, $A \rightarrow hZ$ and $H^\pm \rightarrow τν$ non-observation along with Higgs observables and set (different) upper bounds for new physics contributions in $ΔF=2 $ processes. We find that a $\sim 25\%$ contribution in $ΔM_{s(d)}$ is still possible for MFV models, however such a large effect is nowadays severely constrained for the case of MSSM, due to stronger bounds on the charged Higgs masses.

Light Higgs Bosons in NMSSM at the LHC

The next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) with an extended Higgs sector offers one of the Higgs boson as the Standard model (SM) like Higgs with a mass around 125 GeV along with other Higgs bosons with lighter and heavier masses and not excluded by any current experiments. At the LHC, phenomenology of these non SM like Higgs bosons is very rich and considerably different from the other supersymmetric models. In this work, assuming one of the Higgs bosons to be the SM like, we revisit the mass spectrum and couplings of non SM like Higgs bosons taking into consideration all existing constraints and identify the relevant region of parameter space. The discovery potential of these non SM like Higgs bosons, apart from their masses, is guided by their couplings with gauge bosons and fermions which are very much parameter space sensitive. We evaluate the rates of productions of these non SM like Higgs bosons at the LHC for a variety of decay channels in the allowed region of the parameter space. Although bb, ττ decay modes appear to be the most promising, it is observed that for a substantial region of parameter space the two-photon decay mode has a remarkably large rate. In this work we emphasize that this diphoton mode can be exploited to find the NMSSM Higgs signal and can also be potential avenue to distinguish the NMSSM from the MSSM. In addition, we discuss briefly the various detectable signals of these non SM Higgs bosons at the LHC.
