Prescriptive Master Integrals of Maximal Weight at Two Loops

We describe the construction of a spanning set of individually pure, planar master integrals involving massless particles in four dimensions which include all maximal-weight contributions at two loops. In this basis, every independent region associated with infrared divergence is individually matched by specific masters, with all other masters being manifestly finite in four dimensions.

Covariant BCFW for All Masses

We use the massive spinor-helicity formalism to describe a novel construction for massive spinors which allows one to connect the many choices of bases useful in the representation of amplitudes involving massive particles, and we use this to derive a new formulation for the general BCFW shift that is valid regardless whether or which of the particles involved are massive or massless. This formalism should help facilitate a more coherent implementation of on-shell recursion for computing amplitudes involving massive particles in four dimensions.

Constructing Concrete Colour Tensors for Simple Lie Algebras

We describe the implementation and use of colour_tensors: a Mathematica package built for the concrete construction of explicit colour tensors involving arbitrarily charged particles in any gauge theory. These can be used to directly determine linear relations among colour tensors and compute a number of otherwise difficult, representation-theoretic quantities relevant to scattering amplitudes such as colour-interference between partial amplitudes.

Tree Amplitudes with Charged Matter in Pure Gauge Theory

We describe the implementation and usage of `fermionic_amplitudes.m', a Mathematica package for the computation of tree amplitudes involving arbitrary numbers of gauge bosons and arbitrarily-charged massless fermions of (possibly) distinct flavours in pure (non-supersymmetric) gauge theory. These are given in terms of a basis of partial amplitudes involving distinct-flavoured fermions dressed by specific colour tensors. Distinct-flavour partial amplitudes are expressed as linear combinations of those involving only a single flavour, which may be evaluated as component amplitudes of (maximally) supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. All relevant colour tensors can be realized as explicit, numeric arrays given any choice of charge generators (for any gauge theory -- including $u_1$); from these, all colour contractions relevant to cross sections may be readily computed. The complete package and a notebook demonstrating its primary usage and functionality are included in this work's submission's ancillary files on the arXiv.

The Supersymmetry of Cuts in Pure Gauge Theory and Gravity

At tree-level, scattering amplitudes involving only gluons or gravitons are unaffected by supersymmetry, allowing them to be efficiently encoded by and extracted from those of maximally supersymmetric (N=4,8) theories. This fails beyond tree-level, of course, but much less than would be expected. We show that all the leading singularities of (sub-maximally or) non-supersymmetric theories can be organized into `generalized' superfunctions, in terms of which all helicity components can be effectively encoded. These functions differ from those of maximally supersymmetric theories by an extent determined by loop-order -- broken into a sum over 2^L supersymmetric pieces.

The Colour Dependence of Amplitudes

We describe how to construct a spanning set of linearly-independent, automatically orthogonal colour tensors for scattering amplitudes involving coloured particles transforming under arbitrary representations of any gauge theory, sufficient to all orders of perturbation theory (or beyond). These tensors are constructed from any choice of a single, trivalent tree graph, with Clebsch-Gordan coefficients at vertices connecting the external particles' representations to internal, irreducible representations via tensor products. We describe how the colour dependence of any Feynman diagram can be systematically decomposed into these bases, and how amplitudes expressed in these bases compare with other choices of tensors such as multi-traces or `f-graphs'.

The Four-Point Correlator of Planar sYM at Twelve Loops

We determine the 4-point correlation function and amplitude in planar, maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory to 12 loops. We find that the recently-introduced 'double-triangle' rule in fact implies the previously described square and pentagon rules; and when applied to 12 loops, it fully determines the 11-loop correlator and fixes all but 3 of the (22,024,902) 12-loop coefficients; these remaining coefficients can be subsequently fixed using the '(single-)triangle' rule. Not only do we confirm the Catalan conjecture for anti-prism graphs, but we discover evidence for a greatly generalized Catalan conjecture for the coefficients of all polygon-framed fishnet graphs. We provide all contributions through 12 loops as ancillary files to this work.

The Many Colours of Amplitudes

We study the colour-dependence of scattering amplitudes in Yang-Mills theory with arbitrary (but fixed) gauge group and various representations of charged matter. When the rank of the gauge theory is taken arbitrarily large compared to the number of particles involved in an amplitude, it is well known that the number of independent colour-structure tensors grows factorially with multiplicity; however, for any fixed gauge group, this number grows at most exponentially with multiplicity. We review how this counting arises in representation theory and survey its implications for a wide variety of specific gauge groups with various representations of charged matter, uncovering several surprising structures along the way.

Computational Tools for Trees in Gauge Theory and Gravity

We describe a new set of public, self-contained, and versatile computational tools for the investigation, manipulation, and evaluation of tree-level amplitudes in pure (super)Yang-Mills and (super)Gravity, $ϕ^p$-scalar field theory, and various other theories related to these through the double-copy. The package brings together a diverse set of frameworks for representing amplitudes, from twistor string theory and scattering equations, to KLT and the double-copy, to on-shell recursion and the (oriented) positroid geometry of the amplituhedron. In addition to checking agreement across frameworks, we have made it easy to test many of the non-trivial relations satisfied by amplitudes, their components and building blocks, including: Ward identities, KK and BCJ relations, soft theorems, and the $E_{7|7}$ structure of maximal supergravity. Beyond providing a coherent and consistent implementation of many well known (if not publicly available) results, our package includes a number of results well beyond what has existed in the present literature--from local, covariant, manifestly color-kinematic-dual representations of amplitudes for gluons/gravitons at arbitrary multiplicity, to a complete classification of Yangian invariants via oriented homology in the amplituhedron. The Mathematica package `tree_amplitudes', and a notebook illustrating its functionality are available as ancillary files attached to this work's page on the arXiv.

Landau Singularities and Higher-Order Roots

Landau's work on the singularities of Feynman diagrams suggests that they can only be of three types: either poles, logarithmic divergences, or the roots of quadratic polynomials. On the other hand, many Feynman integrals exist whose singularities involve arbitrarily higher-order polynomial roots. We investigate this apparent paradox using concrete examples involving cube-roots in four dimensions and roots of a degree six polynomial in two dimensions, and suggest that these higher-order singularities can only be approached via kinematic limits of higher co-dimension than one, thus evading Landau's argument.

Gauge-Invariant Double-Copies via Recursion

We prove that all tree-level amplitudes in pure (super-)gravity can be expressed as term-wise, gauge-invariant double-copies of those of pure (super-)Yang-Mills obtained via BCFW recursion. These representations are far from unique: varying the recursive scheme leads to a wide variety of distinct, but equally valid representations of gravitational amplitudes, all realized as double-copies.

Loops from Cuts

We derive novel recursion relations for all loop amplitude integrands of planar, maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in terms of unitarity-like `cuts' obtained via sequences of BCFW deformations in momentum-twistor space.

The Stratification of Rigidity

We show that a master integrand basis exists for all planar, two-loop amplitudes in massless four-dimensional theories which is fully stratified by rigidity -- with each integrand being either pure and strictly polylogarithmic or (pure and) strictly elliptic-polylogarithmic, with each of the later involving a single elliptic curve. Such integrands can be said to have definite rigidity.

Functions Beyond Multiple Polylogarithms for Precision Collider Physics

Feynman diagrams constitute one of the essential ingredients for making precision predictions for collider experiments. Yet, while the simplest Feynman diagrams can be evaluated in terms of multiple polylogarithms -- whose properties as special functions are well understood -- more complex diagrams often involve integrals over complicated algebraic manifolds. Such diagrams already contribute at NNLO to the self-energy of the electron, $t \bar{t}$ production, $γγ$ production, and Higgs decay, and appear at two loops in the planar limit of maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. This makes the study of these more complicated types of integrals of phenomenological as well as conceptual importance. In this white paper contribution to the Snowmass community planning exercise, we provide an overview of the state of research on Feynman diagrams that involve special functions beyond multiple polylogarithms, and highlight a number of research directions that constitute essential avenues for future investigation.

Integrands of Less-Supersymmetric Yang-Mills at One Loop

We construct a prescriptive, bubble power-counting basis of one-loop integrands suitable for representing amplitude integrands in less-supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. With the exception of massless bubbles, all integrands have unambiguous, leading singularities as coefficients defined in field theory; for the massless bubbles on external legs, we find two natural choices which lead to different integrands that highlight distinct aspects of field theory. For concreteness, we give the all-multiplicity integrands for MHV amplitudes, and the split-helicity amplitude integrand for six-particle NMHV. The basis we construct is mostly pure and is divided into to separately UV- and IR-finite sectors of fixed transcendental weight, resulting in UV- and IR-finite ratio functions of n-particle helicity amplitudes.

Illustrations of Integrand-Basis Building at Two Loops

We outline the concrete steps involved in building prescriptive master integrand bases for scattering amplitudes beyond the planar limit. We highlight the role of contour choices in such bases, and illustrate the full process by constructing a complete, triangle power-counting basis at two loops for six particles. We show how collinear contour choices can be used to divide integrand bases into separately finite and divergent subspaces, and how double-poles can be used to further subdivide these spaces according to (transcendental) weight. Complete details of the basis constructed for six particles is provided in the ancillary files for this work's submission to the arXiv.

Prescriptive Unitarity for Non-Planar Six-Particle Amplitudes at Two Loops

We extend the applications of prescriptive unitarity beyond the planar limit to provide local, polylogarithmic, integrand-level representations of six-particle MHV scattering amplitudes in both maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and gravity. The integrand basis we construct is diagonalized on a spanning set of non-vanishing leading singularities that ensures the manifest matching of all soft-collinear singularities in both theories. As a consequence, this integrand basis naturally splits into infrared-finite and infrared-divergent parts, with hints toward an integrand-level exponentiation of infrared divergences. Importantly, we use the same basis of integrands for both theories, so that the presence or absence of residues at infinite loop momentum becomes a feature detectable by inspecting the cuts of the theory. Complete details of our results are provided as ancillary files. This work has been updated to take into account the results of [arXiv:1911.09106], which leads to a simpler and more uniform representation of these amplitudes.
