An Asplund space with norming Markuševič basis that is not weakly compactly generated

We construct an Asplund Banach space $\mathcal{X}$ with a norming Markuševič basis such that $\mathcal{X}$ is not weakly compactly generated. This solves a long-standing open problem from the early nineties, originally due to Gilles Godefroy. En route to the proof, we construct a peculiar example of scattered compact space, that also solves a question due to Wiesław Kubiś and Arkady Leiderman.

Small semi-Eberlein compacta and inverse limits

We study properties of semi-Eberlein compacta related to inverse limits. We concentrate our investigation on an interesting subclass of small semi-Eberlein compacta whose elements are obtained as inverse limits whose bonding maps are semi-open retractions.

Characterization of (semi-)Eberlein compacta using retractional skeletons

We deeply study retractions associated to suitable models in compact spaces admitting a retractional skeleton and find several interesting consequences. Most importantly, we provide a new characterization of Valdivia compacta using the notion of retractional skeletons, which seems to be helpful when characterizing its subclasses. Further, we characterize Eberlein and semi-Eberlein compacta in terms of retractional skeletons and show that our new characterizations give an alternative proof of the fact that continuous image of an Eberlein compact is Eberlein as well as new stability results for the class of semi-Eberlein compacta, solving in particular an open problem posed by Kubis and Leiderman.

Overcomplete sets in non-separable Banach spaces

We introduce and study the notion of overcomplete set in a Banach space, that subsumes and extends the classical concept of overcomplete sequence in a (separable) Banach space. We give existence and non-existence results of overcomplete sets for a wide class of (non-separable) Banach spaces and we study to which extent properties of overcomplete sequences are retained by every overcomplete set.

Star-finite coverings of Banach spaces

We study star-finite coverings of infinite-dimensional normed spaces. A family of sets is called star-finite if each of its members intersects only finitely many other members of the family. It follows by our results that an LUR or a uniformly Fréchet smooth infinite-dimensional Banach space does not admit star-finite coverings by closed balls. On the other hand, we present a quite involved construction proving existence of a star-finite covering of $c_0(Γ)$ by Fréchet smooth centrally symmetric bounded convex bodies. A similar but simpler construction shows that every normed space of countable dimension (and hence incomplete) has a star-finite covering by closed balls.

On compact trees with the coarse wedge topology

In the present paper we investigate the class of compact trees, endowed with the coarse wedge topology, in the area of non-separable Banach spaces. We describe Valdivia compact trees in terms of inner structures and we characterize the space of continuous functions on them. We prove that all compact trees have the property $(M)$. Finally we prove that the space of continuous functions on an arbitrary tree with height less than $ω_1\cdotω_0$ is Plichko.

On bisequentiality and spaces of strictly decreasing functions on trees

We present a characterization of spaces of strictly decreasing functions on trees in terms of bisequentiality. This characterization answers Questions 6.1 and 6.2 of "A filter on a collection of finite sets and Eberlein compacta" by T. Cieśla. Moreover we study the relation between these spaces and the classes of Corson, Eberlein and uniform Eberlein compacta.

New examples of non-commutative Valdivia compact spaces

The aim of this note is to characterize trees, endowed with coarse wedge topology, that have a retractional skeleton. We use this characterization to provide new examples of non-commutative Valdivia compact spaces that are not Valdivia.

On the class of continuous images of non-commutative Valdivia compacta

We investigate the class of continuous images of non-commutative Valdivia compact spaces, in particular its subclass of weakly non-commutative Cor- son countably compact spaces. A key tool is the study of non-commutative Corson countably compact spaces and their stability. The results are the non- commutative version of results by O. Kalenda (2003). Moreover, we present a study of retractional skeletons on Aleksandrov duplicates of ordinal spaces.
