Metastability bounds on flavour-violating trilinear soft terms in the MSSM

The vacuum stability bounds on flavour-violating trilinear soft terms are revisited from the viewpoint that one should not ban a standard-model-like false vacuum as long as it is long-lived on a cosmological timescale. The vacuum transition rate is evaluated numerically by searching for the bounce configuration. Like stability, a metastability bound does not decouple even if sfermion masses grow. Apart from being more generous than stability, the new bounds are largely independent of Yukawa couplings except for the stop trilinears. With vacuum longevity imposed on otherwise arbitrary LR insertions, it is found that a super flavour factory has the potential to probe sparticle masses up to a few TeV through B and tau physics whereas the MEG experiment might cover a far wider range. In the stop sector, metastability is more restrictive than any existing experimental constraint such as from electroweak precision data. Also discussed are dependency on other parameters and reliability under radiative corrections.

Constrained potential method for false vacuum decays

A procedure is reported for numerical analysis of false vacuum transition in a model with multiple scalar fields. It is a refined version of the approach by Konstandin and Huber. The alteration makes it possible to tackle a class of problems that was difficult or unsolvable with the original method, i.e. those with a distant or nonexistent true vacuum. An example with an unbounded-from-below direction is presented.

FCNC and CP Violation Observables in a SU(3)-flavoured MSSM

A non-Abelian flavour symmetry in a minimal supersymmetric standard model can explain the flavour structures in the Yukawa couplings and simultaneously solve the SUSY flavour problem. Similarly the SUSY CP problem can be solved if CP is spontaneously broken in the flavour sector. In this work, we present an explicit example of these statements with a SU(3) flavour symmetry and spontaneous CP violation. In addition, we show that it is still possible to find some significant deviation from the SM expectations as far as FCNC and CP violation are concerned. We find that large contributions can be expected in lepton flavour violating decays, as $μ\to e γ$ and $τ\to μγ$, electric dipole moments, $d_e$ and $d_n$ and kaon CP violating processes as $ε_K$. Thus, these flavoured MSSM realizations are phenomenologically sensitive to the experimental searches in the realm of flavor and CP vioation physics.

B_s mixing phase and lepton flavor violation in supersymmetric SU(5)

The connection between B_s mixing phase and lepton flavor violation is studied in SU(5) GUT. The O(1) phase, preferring a non-vanishing squark mixing, generically implies tau -> (e + mu) gamma and mu -> e gamma. In addition to the facts already well-known, stresses are put on the role of gaugino to scalar mass ratio at the GUT scale and the possible modifications due to Planck-suppressed non-renormalizable operators.

B_s mixing phase and lepton flavor violation in supersymmetric SU(5)

We inspect consequences of the latest B_s mixing phase measurements on lepton flavor violation in a supersymmetric SU(5) theory. The O(1) phase, preferring a non-vanishing squark mixing, generically implies tau -> (e + mu) gamma and mu -> e gamma. Depending on the gaugino and the scalar mass parameters as well as tan beta, the rates turn out to be detectable or even already excessive, if the RR mass insertion of down-type squarks is nonzero. We find that it becomes easy to reconcile B_s mixing phase with lepton flavor violation given: gaugino to scalar squared mass ratio around 1/12, both LL and RR insertions with decent sizes, and low tan beta.

Sflavor mixing map viewed from a high scale in supersymmetric SU(5)

We study flavor violation in a supersymmetric SU(5) grand unification scenario in a model-independent way employing mass insertions. We examine how the quark and the lepton sector observables restrict sfermion mixings. With a low soft scalar mass, a lepton flavor violating process provides a stringent constraint on the flavor structure of right-handed down-type squarks. In particular, mu -> e gamma turns out to be highly susceptible to the 1-3 and 2-3 mixings thereof, due to the radiative correction from the top Yukawa coupling to the scalar mass terms of 10. With a higher scalar mass around the optimal value, in contrast, the quark sector inputs such as B-meson mixings and hadron electric dipole moment, essentially determine the room for sfermion mixing. We also discuss the recent deviation observed in B_s mixing phase, projected sensitivity of forthcoming experiments, and ways to maintain the power of leptonic restrictions even after incorporating a solution to fix the incorrect quark-lepton mass relations.

Implications of the measurements of B_s - B_s bar mixing on SUSY models

We derive constraints on the mass insertion parameters from the recent measurements of B_s - B_s bar mixing, and discuss their implications on SUSY breaking mediation mechanisms and SUSY flavor models. Some SUSY flavor models are already excluded or disfavored by B_s - B_s bar mixing. We also discuss how to test the SM and SUSY models in the future experiments, by studying other CP violating observables related to b -> s transition, such as the time-dependent CP asymmetry in B -> phi K_S and the direct CP asymmetry in B -> X_s gamma.

Lepton flavor violation as a probe of squark mixing in supersymmetric SU(5)

We study flavor violation in a supersymmetric SU(5) grand unification scenario in a model-independent way employing mass insertions. We examine how the quark and the lepton sector observables restrict sfermion mixings. In many cases, a lepton flavor violating process provides a stringent constraint on the flavor structure of right-handed down-type squarks. In particular, mu -> e gamma turns out to be highly susceptible to the 1-3 and 2-3 mixings thereof, due to the radiative correction from the top Yukawa coupling to the scalar mass terms of 10. String-derived D4 flavor symmetry and phenomenological implications

In this paper we show how some flavor symmetries may be derived from the heterotic string, when compactified on a 6D orbifold. In the body of the paper we focus on the $D_4$ family symmetry, recently obtained in $Z_3 \times Z_2$ orbifold constructions. We show how this flavor symmetry constrains fermion masses, as well as the soft SUSY breaking mass terms. Flavor symmetry breaking can generate the hierarchy of fermion masses and at the same time the flavor symmetry suppresses large flavor changing neutral current processes.

Lepton non-universality at LEP and charged Higgs

A recent analysis of the LEP data shows an interesting deviation from lepton universality in W boson decays. An excess at the level of 2.8 sigma is found in the tau mode branching ratio with respect to the other two modes. It is suggested that this seeming lepton non-universality might stem from pair production of charged Higgs bosons almost degenerate with W, that preferentially decay to heavy fermions. It is shown that the deviation can be reduced to 1.4 sigma in two Higgs doublet model I without any conflict with the existing direct or indirect constraints. This conclusion is largely independent of tan beta, the ratio of Higgs vacuum expectation values. This scenario can be tested at the forthcoming international linear collider.

Fermion masses and mixings from heterotic orbifold models

We search for a possibility of getting realistic fermion mass ratios and mixing angles from renormalizable couplings on the Z_6-I heterotic orbifold with one pair of Higgs doublets. In the quark sector, we find cases with reasonable m_c/m_t, m_s/m_b, and V_{cb}, if we ignore the first family. In the lepton sector, we can fit the charged lepton mass ratios, the neutrino mass squared difference ratio, and the lepton mixing angles, considering all three families.

Re (epsilon'/epsilon_K) vs. B_d -> phi K_S CP asymmetry

In a SUSY GUT seesaw scenario, the largeness of the atmospheric neutrino mixing can reflect itself into an enhanced flavor changing mixing of beauty and strange right-handed scalar quarks. If the CP violating phase in such down type squark RR insertion is the main source of CP asymmetry in B_d -> phi K_S and the gluino contributions to K0-K0 bar and B0-B0 bar mixing are negligible, there is a correlation between Re (epsilon'/epsilon_K) and B_d -> phi K_S CP asymmetry, in addition to that with the strange quark CEDM. The current data on Re (epsilon'/epsilon_K) = (16.7 +- 2.6) 10^-4 imply that S_{phi K} should be greater than \sim 0.5 (0.25) for mu tan beta = 1 (5) TeV, assuming the RR dominance in b -> s transition and the minimal supergravity type boundary conditions for soft parameters.

Lepton masses and mixing angles from heterotic orbifold models

We systematically study the possibility for realizing realistic values of lepton mass ratios and mixing angles by using only renormalizable Yukawa couplings derived from heterotic $Z_6$-I orbifold. We assume one pair of up and down sector Higgs fields. We consider both the Dirac neutrino mass scenario and the seesaw scenario with degenerate right-handed majorana neutrino masses. It is found that realistic values of the charged lepton mass ratios, $m_e/m_τ$ and $m_μ/m_τ$, the neutrino mass squared difference ratio, $Δm^2_{31}/Δm^2_{21}$, and the lepton mixing angles can be obtained in certain cases.

Quark masses and mixing angles in heterotic orbifold models

We study systematically the possibility for realizing realistic values of quark mass ratios $m_c/m_t$ and $m_s/m_b$ and the mixing angle $V_{cb}$ by using only renormalizable Yukawa couplings derived from heterotic orbifold models. We assume one pair of up and down sector Higgs fields. We show realistic examples including hierarchical and democratic forms of Yukawa matrices.

Chiral perturbation theory for pentaquark baryons and its applications

We construct a chiral lagrangian for pentaquark baryons assuming that the recently found Theta^+ (1540) state belongs to an antidecuplet of SU(3) flavor symmetry with J^P = (1/2)^(+-). We derive the Gell-Mann-Okubo formulae for the antidecuplet baryon masses, and a possible mixing between the antidecuplet and the pentaquark octet. Then we calculate the cross sections for pi^- p -> K^- Theta^+ and gamma n -> K^- Theta^+ using our chiral lagrangian. The resulting amplitudes respect the underlying chiral symmetry of QCD correctly. We also describe how to include the light vector mesons in the chiral lagrangian.

B -> phi K_S CP asymmetries as a probe of supersymmetry

We consider sparticle contributions to time dependent CP asymmetry in B -> phi K_S. As for the gluino-squark loop, LR or RL insertion is more likely to give recently observed S_{phi K} < 0 than LL or RR insertion. Neutral Higgs contribution does not change S_{phi K} very much due to the strong constraint from B_s -> mu^+ mu^-. We also show correlations among related processes such as direct CP asymmetry in B -> X_s gamma and B_s - B_s bar mixing, and discuss theoretical motivations for desired strength of flavor violation.

B(d) --> phi K(S) CP asymmetries as an important probe of supersymmetry

The decay $B_d \to ϕK_S$ is a special probe of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), since it has no SM tree level contribution. Motivated by recent data suggesting a deviation from the SM for its time-dependent CP asymmetry, we examine supersymmetric explanations. Chirality preserving contributions are generically small, unless gluino is relatively light. Higgs contributions are also too small to explain a large asymmetry. Chirality flipping $LR$ and $RL$ gluino contributions actually can provide sizable effects without conflict with all related results. We discuss how various insertions can be distinguished, and argue the needed sizes of mass insertions are reasonable.
