Combinatorics on bounded free Motzkin paths and its applications

In this paper, we construct a bijection from a set of bounded free Motzkin paths to a set of bounded Motzkin prefixes that induces a bijection from a set of bounded free Dyck paths to a set of bounded Dyck prefixes. We also give bijections between a set of bounded cornerless Motzkin paths and a set of $t$-core partitions, and a set of bounded cornerless symmetric Motzkin paths and a set of self-conjugate $t$-core partitions. As an application, we get explicit formulas for the number of ordinary and self-conjugate $t$-core partitions with a fixed number of corners.

Results on bar-core partitions, core shifted Young diagrams, and doubled distinct cores

Simultaneous bar-cores, core shifted Young diagrams (or CSYDs), and doubled distinct cores have been studied since Morris and Yaseen introduced the concept of bar-cores. In this paper, our goal is to give a formula for the number of these core partitions on $(s,t)$-cores and $(s,s+d,s+2d)$-cores for the remaining cases that are not covered yet. In order to achieve this goal, we observe a characterization of $\bar{s}$-core partitions to obtain characterizations of doubled distinct $s$-core partitions and $s$-CSYDs. By using them, we construct $NE$ lattice path interpretations of these core partitions on $(s,t)$-cores. Also, we give free Motzkin path interpretations of these core partitions on $(s,s+d,s+2d)$-cores.

The $(s,s+d,\dots,s+pd)$-core partitions and the rational Motzkin paths

In this paper, we propose an $(s+d,d)$-abacus for $(s,s+d,\dots,s+pd)$-core partitions and establish a bijection between the $(s,s+d,\dots,s+pd)$-core partitions and the rational Motzkin paths of type $(s+d,-d)$. This result not only gives a lattice path interpretation of the $(s,s+d,\dots,s+pd)$-core partitions but also counts them with a closed formula. Also we enumerate $(s,s+1,\dots,s+p)$-core partitions with $k$ corners and self-conjugate $(s,s+1,\dots,s+p)$-core partitions.

Applications of the Heine and Bauer-Muir transformations to Rogers-Ramanujan type continued fractions

In this paper we show that various continued fractions for the quotient of general Ramanujan functions $G(aq,b,łq)/G(a,b,ł)$ may be derived from each other via Bauer-Muir transformations. The separate convergence of numerators and denominators play a key part in showing that the continued fractions and their Bauer-Muir transformations converge to the same limit. We also show that these continued fractions may be derived from Heine's continued fraction for a ratio of $_2ϕ_1$ functions and other continued fractions of a similar type, and by this method derive a new continued fraction for $G(aq,b,łq)/G(a,b,ł)$. Finally we derive a number of new versions of some beautiful continued fraction expansions of Ramanujan for certain combinations of infinite products, with the following being an example: \begin{multline*} \frac{(-a,b;q)_{\infty} - (a,-b;q)_{\infty}}{(-a,b;q)_{\infty}+ (a,-b;q)_{\infty}} = \frac{(a-b)}{1-a b} \- \frac{(1-a^2)(1-b^2)q}{1-a b q^2}\\ \- \frac{(a-bq^2)(b-aq^2)q}{1-a b q^4} %\phantom{sdsadadsaasdda}\\ \- \frac{(1-a^2q^2)(1-b^2q^2)q^3}{1-a b q^6} \- \frac{(a-bq^4)(b-aq^4)q^3}{1-a b q^8} \- \cds . \end{multline*}

Counting self-conjugate (s,s+1,s+2)-core partitions

We are concerned with counting self-conjugate $(s,s+1,s+2)$-core partitions. A Motzkin path of length $n$ is a path from $(0,0)$ to $(n,0)$ which stays above the $x$-axis and consists of the up $U=(1,1)$, down $D=(1,-1)$, and flat $F=(1,0)$ steps. We say that a Motzkin path of length $n$ is symmetric if its reflection about the line $x=n/2$ is itself. In this paper, we show that the number of self-conjugate $(s,s+1,s+2)$-cores is equal to the number of symmetric Motzkin paths of length $s$, and give a closed formula for this number.

A bijection between self-conjugate and ordinary partitions and counting simultaneous cores as its application

We give a bijection between the set of self-conjugate partitions and that of ordinary partitions. Also, we show the relation between hook lengths of self conjugate partition and corresponding partition via the bijection. As a corollary, we give new combinatorial interpretations for the Catalan number and the Motzkin number in terms of self-conjugate simultaneous core partitions.

A tiling proof of Euler's pentagnal number theorem and generalizations

In two papers, Little and Sellers introduced an exciting new combinatorial method for proving partition identities which is not directly bijective. Instead, they consider various sets of weighted tilings of a $1 \times \infty$ board with squares and dominoes, and for each type of tiling they construct a generating function in two different ways, which generates a $q$-series identity. Using this method, they recover quite a few classical $q$-series identities, but Euler's Pentagonal Number Theorem is not among them. In this paper, we introduce a key parameter when constructing the generating functions of various sets of tilings which allows us to recover Euler's Pentagonal Number Theorem along with an infinite family of generalizations.

From partition identities to a combinatorial approach to explicit Satake inversion

In this paper, we provide combinatorial proofs for certain partition identities which arise naturally in the context of Langlands' beyond endoscopy proposal. These partition identities motivate an explicit plethysm expansion of $\mathrm{Sym}^j(\mathrm{Sym}^kV)$ for $\mathrm{GL}_2$ in the case $k=3$. We compute the plethysm explicitly for the cases $k=3, 4$. Moreover, we use these expansions to explicitly compute the basic function attached to the symmetric power $L$-function of $\mathrm{GL}_2$ for these two cases.
