Growth of curvature and perimeter of temperature patches in the 2D Boussinesq equations

In this paper, we construct an example of temperature patch solutions for the two-dimensional, incompressible Boussinesq system with kinematic viscosity such that both the curvature and perimeter grow to infinity over time. The presented example consists of two disjoint, simply connected patches. The rates of growth for both curvature and perimeter in this example are at least algebraic.

Coherence of a field-gradient-driven singlet-triplet qubit coupled to many-electron spin states in 28Si/SiGe

Engineered spin-electric coupling enables spin qubits in semiconductor nanostructures to be manipulated efficiently and addressed individually. While synthetic spin-orbit coupling using a micromagnet is widely used for driving qubits based on single spins in silicon, corresponding demonstration for encoded spin qubits is so far limited to natural silicon. Here, we demonstrate fast singlet-triplet qubit oscillation (~100 MHz) in a gate-defined double quantum dot in $^{28}$Si/SiGe with an on-chip micromagnet with which we show the oscillation quality factor of an encoded spin qubit exceeding 580. The coherence time $\textit{T}_{2}$* is analyzed as a function of potential detuning and an external magnetic field. In weak magnetic fields, the coherence is limited by fast noise compared to the data acquisition time, which limits $\textit{T}_{2}$* < 1 $μ$s in the ergodic limit. We present evidence of sizable and coherent coupling of the qubit with the spin states of a nearby quantum dot, demonstrating that appropriate spin-electric coupling may enable a charge-based two-qubit gate in a (1,1) charge configuration.

Probing two-qubit capacitive interactions beyond bilinear regime using dual Hamiltonian parameter estimations

We report the simultaneous operation and two-qubit coupling measurement of a pair of two-electron spin qubits that are actively decoupled from quasistatic nuclear noise in a GaAs quadruple quantum dot array. Coherent Rabi oscillations of both qubits (decay time $\approx$2 μs; frequency few MHz) are achieved by continuously tuning the drive frequency using rapidly converging real-time Hamiltonian estimators. By state conditional exchange oscillation measurements, we also observe strong two-qubit capacitive interaction (> 190 MHz). We show that the scaling of the capacitive interaction with respect to intra-qubit exchange energies is stronger than the bilinear form, consistent with recent theoretical predictions. We observe a high ratio (>16) between coherence and conditional phase-flip time, which supports the possibility of generating high-fidelity and fast quantum entanglement between encoded spin qubits using a simple capacitive interaction.

Circular Coordinates for Density-Robust Analysis

Dimensionality reduction is a crucial technique in data analysis, as it allows for the efficient visualization and understanding of high-dimensional datasets. The circular coordinate is one of the topological data analysis techniques associated with dimensionality reduction but can be sensitive to variations in density. To address this issue, we propose new circular coordinates to extract robust and density-independent features. Our new methods generate a new coordinate system that depends on a shape of an underlying manifold preserving topological structures. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our methods through extensive experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets.

Small scale formation for the 2D Boussinesq equation

We study the 2D incompressible Boussinesq equation without thermal diffusion, and aim to construct rigorous examples of small scale formations as time goes to infinity. In the viscous case, we construct examples of global smooth solutions satisfying $\sup_{τ\in[0,t]} \|\nabla ρ(τ)\|_{L^2}\gtrsim t^α$ for some $α>0$. For the inviscid equation in the strip, we construct examples satisfying $\|ω(t)\|_{L^\infty}\gtrsim t^3$ and $\sup_{τ\in[0,t]} \|\nabla ρ(τ)\|_{L^\infty} \gtrsim t^2$ during the existence of a smooth solution. These growth results hold for a broad class of initial data, where we only require certain symmetry and sign conditions. As an application, we also construct solutions to the 3D axisymmetric Euler equation whose velocity has infinite-in-time growth.

Atlas flow : compatible local structures on the manifold

In this paper, we focus on the intersections of a manifold's local structures to analyze the global structure of a manifold. We obtain local regions on data manifolds such as the latent space of StyleGAN2, using Mapper, a tool from topological data analysis. We impose gluing compatibility conditions on overlapping local regions, which guarantee that the local structures can be glued together to the global structure of a manifold. We propose a novel generative flow model called Atlas flow that uses compatibility to reattach the local regions. Our model shows that the generating processes perform well on synthetic dataset samples of well-known manifolds with noise. Furthermore, we investigate the style vector manifold of StyleGAN2 using our model.

Wigner-molecularization-enabled dynamic nuclear field programming

Multielectron semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) provide a novel platform to study the role of Coulomb correlations in finite quantum systems and their impact on many-body energy spectra. An example is the formation of interaction-driven, spatially localized electron states of Wigner molecules (WMs). Although Wigner molecularization has been confirmed by real-space imaging and coherent spectroscopy, the open system dynamics of the strongly-correlated states with the environment are not yet well understood. Here, we demonstrate efficient control of spin transfer between an artificial three-electron WM and the nuclear environment in a GaAs double QD. A Landau-Zener sweep-based polarization sequence and low-lying anti-crossings of spin multiplet states enabled by Wigner molecularization are utilized. An efficient polarization rate of 2.58 $h \cdotp kHz \cdotp (g^* \cdotp μ_B)^{-1}$ per electron spin flip and, consequently, programmable nuclear polarization by controlled single-electron tunneling are achieved. Combined with coherent control of spin states, we achieve control of magnitude, polarity, and site dependence of the nuclear field. It is demonstrated that the same level of control cannot be achieved in the non-interacting regime. Thus, we confirm the multiplet spin structure of a WM, paving the way for active control of newly emerging correlated electron states for application in mesoscopic environment engineering.

Existence of non-trivial non-concentrated compactly supported stationary solutions of the 2D Euler equation with finite energy

In this paper, we prove the existence of locally non-radial solutions to the stationary 2D Euler equations with compact support but non-concentrated around one or several points. Our solutions are of patch type, have analytic boundary, finite energy and sign-changing vorticity and are new to the best of our knowledge. The proof relies on a new observation that finite energy, stationary solutions with simply-connected vorticity have compactly supported velocity, and an application of the Nash-Moser iteration procedure.

Single-shot readout of a driven hybrid qubit in a GaAs double quantum dot

We report a single-shot-based projective readout of a semiconductor hybrid qubit formed by three electrons in a GaAs double quantum dot. Voltage-controlled adiabatic transitions between the qubit operations and readout conditions allow high-fidelity mapping of quantum states. We show that a large ratio both in relaxation time vs. tunneling time (~ 50) and singlet-triplet splitting vs. thermal energy (~ 20) allow energy-selective tunneling-based spin-to-charge conversion with readout visibility ~ 92.6%. Combined with ac driving, we demonstrate high visibility coherent Rabi and Ramsey oscillations of a hybrid qubit in GaAs. Further, we discuss the generality of the method for use in other materials, including silicon.

Remarks on stationary and uniformly-rotating vortex sheets: Rigidity results

In this paper, we show that the only solution of the vortex sheet equation, either stationary or uniformly rotating with negative angular velocity $Ω$, such that it has positive vorticity and is concentrated in a finite disjoint union of smooth curves with finite length is the trivial one: constant vorticity amplitude supported on a union of nested, concentric circles. The proof follows a desingularization argument and a calculus of variations flavor.

Quantitative estimates for uniformly-rotating vortex patches

In this paper, we derive some quantitative estimates for uniformly-rotating vortex patches. We prove that if a non-radial simply-connected patch $D$ is uniformly-rotating with small angular velocity $0 < Ω\ll 1$, then the outmost point of the patch must be far from the center of rotation, with distance at least of order $Ω^{-1/2}$. For $m$-fold symmetric simply-connected rotating patches, we show that their angular velocity must be close to $\frac{1}{2}$ for $m\gg 1$ with the difference at most $O(1/m)$, and also obtain estimates on $L^{\infty}$ norm of the polar graph which parametrizes the boundary.

Symmetry in stationary and uniformly-rotating solutions of active scalar equations

In this paper, we study the radial symmetry properties of stationary and uniformly-rotating solutions of the 2D Euler and gSQG equations, both in the smooth setting and the patch setting. For the 2D Euler equation, we show that any smooth stationary solution with compactly supported and nonnegative vorticity must be radial, without any assumptions on the connectedness of the support or the level sets. In the patch setting, for the 2D Euler equation we show that every uniformly-rotating patch $D$ with angular velocity $Ω\leq 0$ or $Ω\geq \frac{1}{2}$ must be radial, where both bounds are sharp. For the gSQG equation we obtain a similar symmetry result for $Ω\leq 0$ or $Ω\geq Ω_α$ (with the bounds being sharp), under the additional assumption that the patch is simply-connected. These results settle several open questions in [T. Hmidi, J. Evol. Equ., 15(4): 801-816, 2015] and [F. de la Hoz, Z. Hassainia, T. Hmidi, and J. Mateu, Anal. PDE, 9(7):1609-1670, 2016] on uniformly-rotating patches. Along the way, we close a question on overdetermined problems for the fractional Laplacian [R. Choksi, R. Neumayer, and I. Topaloglu, Arxiv preprint arXiv:1810.08304, 2018, Remark 1.4], which may be of independent interest. The main new ideas come from a calculus of variations point of view.
