Proving Properties of Rich Internet Applications

We introduce application layer specifications, which allow us to reason about the state and transactions of rich Internet applications. We define variants of the state/event based logic UCTL* along with two example applications to demonstrate this approach, and then look at a distributed, rich Internet application, proving properties about the information it stores and disseminates. Our approach enables us to justify proofs about abstract properties that are preserved in the face of concurrent, networked inputs by proofs about concrete properties in an Internet setting. We conclude that our approach makes it possible to reason about the programs and protocols that comprise the Internet's application layer with reliability and generality.

The Jasper Framework: Towards a Platform Independent, Formal Treatment of Web Programming

This paper introduces Jasper, a web programming framework which allows web applications to be developed in an essentially platform indepedent manner and which is also suited to a formal treatment. It outlines Jasper conceptually and shows how Jasper is implemented on several commonplace platforms. It also introduces the Jasper Music Store, a web application powered by Jasper and implemented on each of these platforms. And it briefly describes a formal treatment and outlines the tools and languages planned that will allow this treatment to be automated.

Dispersive and Strichartz estimates for hyperbolic equations with constant coefficients

Dispersive and Strichartz estimates for solutions to general strictly hyperbolic partial differential equations with constant coefficients are considered. The global time decay estimates of $L^p-L^q$ norms of propagators are obtained, and it is shown how the time decay rates depend on the geometry of the problem. The frequency space is separated in several zones each giving a certain decay rate. Geometric conditions on characteristics responsible for the particular decay are identified and investigated. Thus, a comprehensive analysis is carried out for strictly hyperbolic equations of high orders with lower order terms of a general form. Results are applied to establish time decay estimates for the Fokker-Planck equation and for semilinear hyperbolic equations.

Global time estimates for solutions to equations of dissipative type

Global time estimates of Lp-Lq norms of solutions to general strictly hyperbolic partial differential equations are considered. The case of special interest in this paper are equations exhibiting the dissipative behaviour. Results are applied to discuss time decay estimates for Fokker-Planck equations and for wave type equations with negative mass.
