Improving LLM-Driven Test Generation by Learning from Mocking Information

Large Language Models (LLMs) have recently shown strong potential for automated unit test generation. This has motivated us to investigate whether developer-defined test doubles (commonly referred to as mocks) available in existing test suites can be leveraged to improve LLM-driven test generation. To this end, we propose MOCKMILL, an LLM-based technique and tool that generates test cases by exploiting mocking information automatically extracted from developer-written tests. MOCKMILL targets components that are replaced by test doubles in existing tests and uses the encoded stubbings and interaction expectations to guide test generation, combined with an iterative generation-and-repair process to ensure executable tests. We evaluated MOCKMILL on 10 open-source classes from six Java projects using four LLMs, and compared the generated tests with existing project tests and tests produced by baseline approaches. The results show that MOCKMILL's tests cover lines of code and kill mutants that existing tests and baseline-generated tests miss. Overall, our findings provide preliminary evidence that leveraging mocking information is a complementary and effective way to enhance LLM-based test generation.

From Efficiency to Meaning: Adolescents' Envisioned Role of AI in Health Management

While prior research has focused on providers, caregivers, and adult patients, little is known about adolescents' perceptions of AI in health learning and management. Utilizing design fiction and co-design methods, we conducted seven workshops with 23 adolescents (aged 14-17) to understand how they anticipate using health AI in the context of a family celiac diagnosis. Our findings reveal that adolescents have four main envisioned roles of health AI: enhancing health understanding and help-seeking, reducing cognitive burden, supporting family health management, and providing guidance while respecting their autonomy. We also identified nuanced trust and a divided view on emotional support from health AI. These findings suggest that adolescents perceive AI's value as a tool that moves them from efficiency to meaning-one that creates time for valued activities. We discuss opportunities for future health AI systems to be designed to encourage adolescent autonomy and reflection, while also supporting meaningful, dialectical activities.

Understanding Adolescents' Perceptions of Benefits and Risks in Health AI Technologies through Design Fiction

Despite the growing research on users' perceptions of health AI, adolescents' perspectives remain underexplored. This study explores adolescents' perceived benefits and risks of health AI technologies in clinical and personal health settings. Employing Design Fiction, we conducted interviews with 16 adolescents (aged 13-17) using four fictional design scenarios that represent current and future health AI technologies as probes. Our findings reveal that with a positive yet cautious attitude, adolescents envision unique benefits and risks specific to their age group. While health AI technologies were seen as valuable learning resources, they also raised concerns about confidentiality with their parents. Additionally, we identified several factors, such as severity of health conditions and previous experience with AI, influencing their perceptions of trust and privacy in health AI. We explore how these insights can inform the future of design of health AI technologies to support learning, engagement, and trust as adolescents navigate their healthcare journey.

Mobile Apps for Children's Health and Wellbeing: Design Features and Future Opportunities

Mobile health apps hold great potential for promoting children's health and wellbeing. However, there is limited understanding of how these technologies are currently designed to support children with their health concerns or wellness goals. To gain insight into the current landscape of mobile apps designed for children's health, we retrieved and reviewed 43 apps from IOS and Google Play store that are specifically marketed for children. Our qualitative analysis identified the dominant health focuses and goals of children's mobile health apps. We analyzed the primary users and their expectations as well as the methods of engagement and involvement adopted. Based on our findings, we discussed the opportunities to support children with chronic illnesses through mobile apps, design for dual use, and design for age appropriateness and digital health safety. This study provides insights and recommendations for app designers, health researchers, and policymakers on strategies for engaging children and parents while also promoting children's health and wellbeing through mobile technology.
