Torsion and complete dualizable objects in tensor-triangulated categories over a Noetherian ring

We study categories of dualizable torsion and complete objects for compactly-rigidly generated tensor-triangulated categories T with a Noetherian central action of a graded commutative Noetherian ring R. We show that they always admit a natural Noetherian action of the completed graded ring R^ and that the categories of dualizable torsion and complete objects can be abstractly reconstructed as tensor-triangulated R^-linear categories from the category of compact torsions objects with the corresponding structure. If the category of compact objects of T in addition admits a strong generator g, we show that the torsion coreflection (resp. complete reflection) of g is a strong generator for the category of dualizable torsion (resp. dualizable complete) objects. In that case, we also show that the categories of dualizable torsion and compact torsion objects determine each other in terms of Brown-type representability theorems.

The derivator of a dg-category

In this work, we construct the stable derivator associated to a homotopically complete and cocomplete dg-category by explicitly defining homotopy Kan extensions via suitable weighted homotopy limits and colimits in dg-categories. By restricting the domain of the derivator to finite direct categories, we obtain a well-defined derivator even for pretriangulated dg-categories. This definition enables an explicit description of the derivator associated to a weakly idempotent complete Frobenius exact category, leading to a more direct characterization in terms of Gorenstein projective (equivalently, Gorenstein injective) diagrams.

Tilting complexes and codimension functions over commutative noetherian rings

In the derived category of a commutative noetherian ring, we explicitly construct a silting object associated with each sp-filtration of the Zariski spectrum satisfying the "slice" condition. Our new construction is based on local cohomology and it allows us to study when the silting object is tilting. For a ring admitting a dualizing complex, this occurs precisely when the sp-filtration arises from a codimension function on the spectrum. In the absence of a dualizing complex, the situation is more delicate and the tilting property is closely related to the condition that the ring is a homomorphic image of a Cohen-Macaulay ring. We also provide dual versions of our results in the cosilting case.

$t$-Structures with Grothendieck hearts via functor categories

We study when the heart of a t-structure in a triangulated category $\mathcal{D}$ with coproducts is AB5 or a Grothendieck category. If $\mathcal{D}$ satisfies Brown representability, a t-structure has an AB5 heart with an injective cogenerator and coproduct-preserving associated homological functor if, and only if, the coaisle has a pure-injective t-cogenerating object. If $\mathcal{D}$ is standard well generated, such a heart is automatically a Grothendieck category. For compactly generated t-structures (in any ambient triangulated category with coproducts), we prove that the heart is a locally finitely presented Grothendieck category. We use functor categories and the proofs rely on two main ingredients. Firstly, we express the heart of any t-structure in any triangulated category as a Serre quotient of the category of finitely presented additive functors for suitable choices of subcategories of the aisle or the co-aisle that we, respectively, call t-generating or t-cogenerating subcategories. Secondly, we study coproduct-preserving homological functors from $\mathcal{D}$ to complete AB5 abelian categories with injective cogenerators and classify them, up to a so-called computational equivalence, in terms of pure-injective objects in $\mathcal{D}$. This allows us to show that any standard well generated triangulated category $\mathcal{D}$ possesses a universal such coproduct-preserving homological functor, to develop a purity theory and to prove that pure-injective objects always cogenerate t-structures in such triangulated categories.

Semiorthogonal decompositions for bounded derived categories of gentle algebras

We study semiorthogonal decompositions of bounded derived categories of gentle algebras and how they are manifested in the geometric model of these categories as constructed by Opper, Plamondon and Schroll. We prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between such semiorthogonal decompositions and suitable cuts of the marked surface underlying the geometric model. Our main tool is the characterization of basis morphisms between indecomposable objects due to Arnesen, Laking and Pauksztello.

Mutation and torsion pairs

Mutation of compact silting objects is a fundamental operation in the representation theory of finite-dimensional algebras due to its connections to cluster theory and to the lattice of torsion pairs in module or derived categories. In this paper we develop a theory of mutation in the broader framework of silting or cosilting t-structures in triangulated categories. We show that mutation of pure-injective cosilting objects encompasses the classical concept of mutation for compact silting complexes. As an application we prove that any minimal inclusion of torsion classes in the category of finitely generated modules over an artinian ring corresponds to an irreducible mutation. This generalises a well-known result for functorially finite torsion classes.

$t$-Structures on stable derivators and Grothendieck hearts

We prove that given any strong, stable derivator and a $t$-structure on its base triangulated category $\cal D$, the $t$-structure canonically lifts to all the (coherent) diagram categories and each incoherent diagram in the heart uniquely lifts to a coherent one. We use this to show that the $t$-structure being compactly generated implies that the coaisle is closed under directed homotopy colimit which in turns implies that the heart is an (Ab.$5$) Abelian category. If, moreover, $\cal D$ is a well generated algebraic or topological triangulated category, then the heart of any accessibly embedded (in particular, compactly generated) $t$-structure has a generator. As a consequence, it follows that the heart of any compactly generated $t$-structure of a well generated algebraic or topological triangulated category is a Grothendieck category.

Cotilting Sheaves on Noetherian Schemes

We develop theory of (possibly large) cotilting objects of injective dimension at most one in general Grothendieck categories. We show that such cotilting objects are always pure-injective and that they characterize the situation where the Grothendieck category is tilted using a torsion pair to another Grothendieck category. We prove that for Noetherian schemes with an ample family of line bundles a cotilting class is closed under injective envelopes if and only if it is invariant under twists by line bundles, and that such cotilting classes are parametrized by specialization closed subsets disjoint from the associated points of the scheme. Finally, we compute the cotilting sheaves of the latter type explicitly for curves as products of direct images of indecomposable injective modules or completed canonical modules at stalks.

Singular compactness and definability for $Σ$-cotorsion and Gorenstein modules

We introduce a general version of singular compactness theorem which makes it possible to show that being a $Σ$-cotorsion module is a property of the complete theory of the module. As an application of the powerful tools developed along the way, we give a new description of Gorenstein flat modules which implies that, regardless of the ring, the class of all Gorenstein flat modules forms the left-hand class of a perfect cotorsion pair. We also prove the dual result for Gorenstein injective modules.

Zariski locality of quasi-coherent sheaves associated with tilting

A classic result by Raynaud and Gruson says that the notion of an (infinite dimensional) vector bundle is Zariski local. This result may be viewed as a particular instance (for n = 0) of the locality of more general notions of quasi-coherent sheaves related to (infinite dimensional) n-tilting modules and classes. Here, we prove the latter locality for all n and all schemes. We also prove that the notion of a tilting module descends along arbitrary faithfully flat ring morphisms in several particular cases (including the case when the base ring is noetherian).

Mackey algebras which are Gorenstein

We complete the picture available in the literature by showing that the integral Mackey algebra is Gorenstein if and only if the group order is square-free, in which case it must have Gorenstein dimension one. We illustrate this result by looking in details at the examples of the cyclic group of order four and the Klein four group.

Tilting classes over commutative rings

We classify all tilting classes over an arbitrary commutative ring via certain sequences of Thomason subsets of the spectrum, generalizing the classification for noetherian commutative rings by Angeleri-Pospíšil-Šťovíček-Trlifaj. We show that the n-tilting classes can be equivalently expressed as classes of all modules vanishing in the first n degrees of one of the following homology theories arising from a finitely generated ideal: Tor_*(R/I,-), Koszul homology, Čech homology, or local homology (even though in general none of those theories coincide). Cofinite-type n-cotilting classes are described by vanishing of the corresponding cohomology theories. For any cotilting class of cofinite type, we also construct a corresponding cotilting module, generalizing the construction of Šťovíček-Trlifaj-Herbera. Finally, we characterize cotilting classes of cofinite type amongst the general ones, and construct new examples of n-cotilting classes not of cofinite type, which are in a sense hard to tell apart from those of cofinite type.

Tilting theory for trees via stable homotopy theory

We show that variants of the classical reflection functors from quiver representation theory exist in any abstract stable homotopy theory, making them available for example over arbitrary ground rings, for quasi-coherent modules on schemes, in the differential-graded context, in stable homotopy theory as well as in the equivariant, motivic, and parametrized variant thereof. As an application of these equivalences we obtain abstract tilting results for trees valid in all these situations, hence generalizing a result of Happel. The main tools introduced for the construction of these reflection functors are homotopical epimorphisms of small categories and one-point extensions of small categories, both of which are inspired by similar concepts in homological algebra.
