Affine Pieri rule for periodic Macdonald spherical functions and fusion rings

Let $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$ be an untwisted affine Lie algebra or the twisted counterpart thereof (which excludes the affine Lie algebras of type $\widehat{BC}_n=A^{(2)}_{2n}$). We present an affine Pieri rule for a basis of periodic Macdonald spherical functions associated with $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$. In type $\hat{A}_{n-1}=A^{(1)}_{n-1}$ the formula in question reproduces an affine Pieri rule for cylindric Hall-Littlewood polynomials due to Korff, which at $t=0$ specializes in turn to a well-known Pieri formula in the fusion ring of genus zero $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}(n)_c$-Wess-Zumino-Witten conformal field theories.

Cubature rules for unitary Jacobi ensembles

We present Chebyshev type cubature rules for the exact integration of rational symmetric functions with poles on prescribed coordinate hyperplanes. Here the integration is with respect to the densities of unitary Jacobi ensembles stemming from the Haar measures of the orthogonal and the compact symplectic Lie groups.

Cubature rules from Hall-Littlewood polynomials

Discrete orthogonality relations for Hall-Littlewood polynomials are employed, so as to derive cubature rules for the integration of homogeneous symmetric functions with respect to the density of the circular unitary ensemble (which originates from the Haar measure on the special unitary group $SU(n;\mathbb{C})$). By passing to Macdonald's hyperoctahedral Hall-Littlewood polynomials, we moreover find analogous cubature rules for the integration with respect to the density of the circular quaternion ensemble (which originates in turn from the Haar measure on the compact symplectic group $Sp (n;\mathbb{H})$). The cubature formulas under consideration are exact for a class of rational symmetric functions with simple poles supported on a prescribed complex hyperplane arrangement. In the planar situations (corresponding to $SU(3;\mathbb{C})$ and $Sp (2;\mathbb{H})$), a determinantal expression for the Christoffel weights enables us to write down compact cubature rules for the integration over the equilateral triangle and the isosceles right triangle, respectively.

Wave functions for quantum integrable particle systems via partial confluences of multivariate hypergeometric functions

Starting from the hyperoctahedral multivariate hypergeometric function of Heckman and Opdam (associated with the $BC_n$ root system), we arrive -- via partial confluent limits in the sense of Oshima and Shimeno -- at solutions of the eigenvalue equations for the Toda chain with one-sided boundary perturbations of Pöschl-Teller type and for the hyperbolic Calogero-Sutherland system in a Morse potential. With the aid of corresponding degenerations of the (bispectral dual) difference equations for the Heckman-Opdam hyperoctahedral hypergeometric function, it is deduced that the eigensolutions in question are holomorphic in the spectral variable.

Spectral analysis of an open $q$-difference Toda chain with two-sided boundary interactions on the finite integer lattice

A quantum $n$-particle model consisting of an open $q$-difference Toda chain with two-sided boundary interactions is placed on a finite integer lattice. The spectrum and eigenbasis are computed by establishing the equivalence with a previously studied $q$-boson model from which the quantum integrability is inherited. Specifically, the $q$-boson-Toda correspondence in question yields Bethe Ansatz eigenfunctions in terms of hyperoctahedral Hall-Littlewood polynomials and provides the pertinent solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations via the global minima of corresponding Yang-Yang type Morse functions.

Eigenfunctions of a discrete elliptic integrable particle model with hyperoctahedral symmetry

We construct the orthogonal eigenbasis for a discrete elliptic Ruijsenaars type quantum particle Hamiltonian with hyperoctahedral symmetry. In the trigonometric limit the eigenfunctions in question recover a previously studied $q$-Racah type reduction of the Koornwinder-Macdonald polynomials. When the inter-particle interaction degenerates to that of impenetrable bosons, the orthogonal eigenbasis simplifies in terms of generalized Schur polynomials on the spectrum associated with recently found elliptic Racah polynomials.

Elliptic Ruijsenaars difference operators, symmetric polynomials, and Wess-Zumino-Witten fusion rings

The fusion ring for $\widehat{\mathfrak{su}}(n)_m$ Wess-Zumino-Witten conformal field theories is known to be isomorphic to a factor ring of the ring of symmetric polynomials presented by Schur polynomials. We introduce a deformation of this factor ring associated with eigenpolynomials for the elliptic Ruijsenaars difference operators. The corresponding Littlewood-Richardson coefficients are governed by a Pieri rule stemming from the eigenvalue equation. The orthogonality of the eigenbasis gives rise to an analog of the Verlinde formula. In the trigonometric limit, our construction recovers the refined $\widehat{\mathfrak{su}}(n)_m$ Wess-Zumino-Witten fusion ring associated with the Macdonald polynomials.

Elliptic Ruijsenaars difference operators on bounded partitions

By means of a truncation condition on the parameters, the elliptic Ruijsenaars difference operators are restricted onto a finite lattice of points encoded by bounded partitions. A corresponding orthogonal basis of joint eigenfunctions is constructed in terms of polynomials on the joint spectrum. In the trigonometric limit, this recovers the diagonalization of the truncated Macdonald difference operators by a finite-dimensional basis of Macdonald polynomials.

Elliptic Racah polynomials

Upon solving a finite discrete reduction of the difference Heun equation, we arrive at an elliptic generalization of the Racah polynomials. We exhibit the three-term recurrence relation and the orthogonality relations for these elliptic Racah polynomials. The well-known $q$-Racah polynomials of Askey and Wilson are recovered as a trigonometric limit.

Determinantal Construction of Orthogonal Polynomials Associated with Root Systems

We consider semisimple triangular operators acting in the symmetric component of the group algebra over the weight lattice of a root system. We present a determinantal formula for the eigenbasis of such triangular operators. This determinantal formula gives rise to an explicit construction of the Macdonald polynomials and of the Heckman-Opdam generalized Jacobi polynomials.

The Quantum Dynamics of the Compactified Trigonometric Ruijsenaars-Schneider Model

We quantize a compactified version of the trigonometric Ruijse\-naars-Schneider particle model with a phase space that is symplectomorphic to the complex projective space CP^N. The quantum Hamiltonian is realized as a discrete difference operator acting in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space of complex functions with support in a finite uniform lattice over a convex polytope (viz., a restricted Weyl alcove with walls having a thickness proportional to the coupling parameter). We solve the corresponding finite-dimensional (bispectral) eigenvalue problem in terms of discretized Macdonald polynomials with q (and t) on the unit circle. The normalization of the wave functions is determined using a terminating version of a recent summation formula due to Aomoto, Ito and Macdonald. The resulting eigenfunction transform determines a discrete Fourier-type involution in the Hilbert space of lattice functions. This is in correspondence with Ruijsenaars' observation that---at the classical level---the action-angle transformation defines an (anti)symplectic involution of CP^N. From the perspective of algebraic combinatorics, our results give rise to a novel system of bilinear summation identities for the Macdonald symmetric functions.
