Renormalisation group effects in SMEFT for di-Higgs production

We study the effects of renormalisation group running for the Wilson coefficients of dimension-6 operators contributing to Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion within Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). The running of these Wilson coefficients has been implemented in the NLO QCD code ggHH_SMEFT, which is publicly available within the Powheg-Box-V2 framework.

Subleading operators and gamma5-scheme dependence in SMEFT for Higgs boson pair production

The calculation of contributions from the chromomagnetic and four-top-quark-operators within Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) to Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion is presented, in combination with NLO QCD corrections. Here we focus on the $\gamma_5$-scheme dependence introduced by the four-top-quark-operators and the interplay with other operators contributing to this process in SMEFT.

Two-loop amplitudes for ttH production: the quark-initiated Nf-part

We present numerical results for the two-loop virtual amplitude entering the NNLO corrections to Higgs boson production in association with a top quark pair at the LHC, focusing, as a proof of concept of our method, on the part of the quark-initiated channel containing loops of massless or massive quarks. Results for the UV renormalised and IR subtracted two-loop amplitude for each colour structure are given at selected phase-space points and visualised in terms of surfaces as a function of two-dimensional slices of the full phase space.

Precise SMEFT predictions for di-Higgs production

We present results of precision calculations for di-Higgs production that combine NLO QCD corrections with operators at canonical dimension six within Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We discuss possible options for operator contributions within a given EFT framework and sources of theory uncertainties.

Combining chromomagnetic and four-fermion operators with leading SMEFT operators for $gg\to hh$ at NLO QCD

We present the calculation of the contribtuions from the chromomagnetic and four-top-quark-operators within Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) to Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion, combined with full NLO QCD corrections. We study the effects of these operators on the total cross section and the invariant mass distribution of the Higgs-boson pair, at $\sqrt{s}=13.6$ TeV. These subleading operators are implemented in the generator ggHH_SMEFT, in the same Powheg-Box-V2 framework as the leading operators, such that their effects can be easily studied in a unified setup.

Two Higgs bosons, two loops, x+2 operators

We discuss the combination of NLO QCD corrections with operators of canonical dimension six within Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), as well as within non-linear Effective Field Theory (HEFT) for Higgs-boson pair production in gluon fusion. Particular emphasis will be put on the identification of leading and subleading operators contributing to this process.

On $\gamma_5$ schemes and the interplay of SMEFT operators in the Higgs-gluon coupling

We calculate the four-top quark operator contributions to Higgs production via gluon fusion in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. The four-top operators enter for the first time via two-loop diagrams. Due to their chiral structure they contain $\gamma_5$, so special care needs to be taken when using dimensional regularisation for the loop integrals. We use two different schemes for the continuation of $\gamma_5$ to $D$ space-time dimensions in our calculations and present a mapping for the parameters in the two schemes. This generically leads to an interplay of different operators, such as four-top operators, chromomagnetic operators or Yukawa-type operators at the loop level. We validate our results by examples of matching onto UV models.

SMEFT predictions for $gg\to hh$ at full NLO QCD and truncation uncertainties

We present a calculation of the NLO QCD corrections for Higgs-boson pair production in gluon fusion including effects of anomalous couplings within Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We study effects of different truncation options of the EFT expansion in $1/Λ$ and of double operator insertions, both at total cross-section level as well as for the distribution of the invariant mass of the Higgs-boson pair, at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. The NLO corrections are implemented in the generator $\texttt{ggHH_SMEFT}$ in the $\texttt{Powheg-Box-V2}$ framework.

Effective Field Theory descriptions of Higgs boson pair production

Higgs boson pair production is traditionally considered to be of particular interest for a measurement of the trilinear Higgs self-coupling. Yet it can offer insights into other couplings as well, since - in an effective field theory (EFT) parameterisation of potential new physics - both the production cross section and kinematical properties of the Higgs boson pair depend on various other Wilson coefficients of EFT operators. This note summarises the ongoing efforts related to the development of EFT tools for Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion, and provides recommendations for the use of distinct EFT parameterisations in the Higgs boson pair production process. This document also outlines where further efforts are needed and provides a detailed analysis of theoretical uncertainties. Additionally, benchmark scenarios are updated. We also re-derive a parameterisation of the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections in terms of the EFT Wilson coefficients both for the total cross section and the distribution in the invariant mass of the Higgs boson pair, providing for the first time also the covariance matrix. A reweighting procedure making use of the newly derived coefficients is validated, which can be used to significantly speed up experimental analyses.

SMEFT truncation effects in Higgs boson pair production at NLO QCD

We present results for Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion at next-to-leading order in QCD, including effects of anomalous couplings within Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). In particular, we investigate truncation effects of the SMEFT series, comparing different ways to treat powers of dimension-six operators and double operator insertions.

Beyond dimension six in SM Effective Field Theory: a case study in Higgs pair production at NLO QCD

We present the NLO (two-loop) QCD corrections to Higgs boson pair production in gluon fusion within Standard Model Effective Theory (SMEFT), including also squared dimension-6 operators and double insertions of operators. The different options to truncate the EFT expansion are contrasted to a non-linear EFT approach (HEFT) and their effects are illustrated by several phenomenological examples.

Effective field theory versus UV-complete model: vector boson scattering as a case study

Effective field theories (EFT) are commonly used to parameterize effects of BSM physics in vector boson scattering (VBS). For Wilson coefficients which are large enough to produce presently observable effects, the validity range of the EFT represents only a fraction of the energy range covered by the LHC, however. In order to shed light on possible extrapolations into the high energy region, a class of UV-complete toy models, with extra SU(2) multiplets of scalars or of fermions with vector-like weak couplings, is considered. By calculating the Wilson coefficients up to energy-dimension eight, and full one-loop contributions to VBS due to the heavy multiplets, the EFT approach, with and without unitarization at high energy, is compared to the perturbative prediction. For high multiplicities, e.g. nonets of fermions, the toy models predict sizable effects in transversely polarized VBS, but only outside the validity range of the EFT. At lower energies, dimension-eight operators are needed for an adequate description of the models, providing another example that dimension-eight can be more important than dimension-six operators. A simplified VBFNLO implementation is used to estimate sensitivity of VBS to such BSM effects at the LHC. Unitarization captures qualitative features of the toy models at high energy but significantly underestimates signal cross sections in the threshold region of the new particles.
