Bethe--Salpeter wave functions in integrable models

We investigate some properties of Bethe--Salpeter wave functions in integrable models. In particular we illustrate the application of the operator product expansion in determining the short distance behavior. The energy dependence of the potentials obtained from such wave functions is studied, and further we discuss the (limited) phenomenological significance of zero--energy potentials.

Cutoff effects in the O(N) sigma model at large N

The computation of the step scaling function for the finite size mass-gap in the O(N) sigma model at large N is reviewed. Practically exact nonperturbative results become available for both finite and vanishing lattice spacing. We use them as a testbed to investigate standard procedures of continuum extrapolation in lattice field theory.

The 4d one component lattice $ϕ^4$ model in the broken phase revisited

Measurements of various physical quantities in the symmetry broken phase of the one component lattice $ϕ^4_4$ with standard action, are shown to be consistent with the critical behavior obtained by renormalization group analyses. This is in contrast to recent conclusions by another group, who further claim that the unconventional scaling behavior they observe, when extended to the complete Higgs sector of the Standard Model, would alter the conventional triviality bound on the mass of the Higgs.

Structure functions of the 2d O(n) non-linear sigma models

We investigate structure functions in the 2-dimensional (asymptotically free) non-linear O(n) sigma-models using the non-perturbative S-matrix bootstrap program. In particular the exact small (Bjorken) x behavior is derived. Structure functions in the special case of the n=3 model are accurately computed over the whole x range for $-q^2/M^2<10^5$, and some moments are compared with results from renormalized perturbation theory. Some results concerning the structure functions in the 1/n approximation are also presented.

Structure functions of 2d integrable asymptotically free models

We investigate structure functions in the 2--dimensional (asymptotically free) non--linear O$(n) σ$--models using the non--perturbative S--matrix bootstrap program. In particular the {\it exact small (Bjorken) $x$ behavior is exhibited}; the structure is rather universal and is probably the same in a wide class of (integrable) asymptotically free models. Structurally similar universal formulae may also hold for the small $x$ behavior of QCD in 4--dimensions. Structure functions in the special case of the $n=3$ model are accurately computed over the whole $x$ range for $-q^2/M^2<10^5$, and some moments are compared with results from renormalized perturbation theory. Some remarks concerning the structure functions in the $1/n$ approximation are also made.

Numerical confirmation of analytic predictions for the finite volume mass gap of the XY-model

Recent exact predictions for the massive scaling limit of the two dimensional XY-model are based on the equivalence with the sine-Gordon theory and include detailed results on the finite size behavior. The so-called step-scaling function of the mass gap is simulated with very high precision and found consistent with analytic results in the continuum limit. To come to this conclusion, an also predicted form of a logarithmic decay of lattice artifacts was essential to use for the extrapolation.

Kosterlitz-Thouless theory and lattice artifacts

The massive continuum limit of the 1+1 dimensional O(2) nonlinear $σ$-model (XY model) is studied using its equivalence to the Sine-Gordon model at its asymptotically free point. It is shown that leading lattice artifacts are universal but they vanish only as inverse powers of the logarithm of the correlation length. Such leading artifacts are calculated for the case of the scattering phase shifts and the correlation function of the Noether current using the bootstrap S-matrix and perturbation theory respectively.

Two-loop beta functions of the Sine-Gordon model

We recalculate the two-loop beta functions in the two-dimensional Sine-Gordon model in a two-parameter expansion around the asymptotically free point. Our results agree with those of Amit et al., J. Phys. A13 (1980) 585.

Thermodynamical Bethe Ansatz analysis in an SU(2)xU(1) symmetric sigma-model

Four different types of free energies are computed by both thermodynamical Bethe Ansatz (TBA) techniques and by weak coupling perturbation theory in an integrable one-parameter deformation of the O(4) principal chiral sigma-model (with SU(2)xU(1) symmetry). The model exhibits both `fermionic' and `bosonic' type free energies and in all cases the perturbative and the TBA results are in perfect agreement, strongly supporting the correctness of the proposed S matrix. The mass gap is also computed in terms of the Lambda parameters of the modified minimal substraction scheme and a lattice regularized version of the model.
