Segre maps and entanglement for multipartite systems of indistinguishable particles

We elaborate the concept of entanglement for multipartite system with bosonic and fermionic constituents and its generalization to systems with arbitrary parastatistics. The entanglement is characterized in terms of generalized Segre maps, supplementing thus an algebraic approach to the problem by a more geometric point of view.

Pontryagin Maximum Principle - a generalization

The fundamental theorem of the theory of optimal control, the Pontryagin maximum principle (PMP), is extended to the setting of almost Lie (AL) algebroids, geometrical objects generalizing Lie algebroids. This formulation of the PMP yields, in particular, a scheme comprising reductions of optimal control problems similar to the reduction for the rigid body in analytical mechanics. On the other hand, in the presented approach the reduced and unreduced PMPs are parts of the same universal formalism. The framework is based on a very general concept of homotopy of measurable paths and the geometry of AL algebroids.

Graded bundles and homogeneity structures

We introduce the concept of a graded bundle which is a natural generalization of the concept of a vector bundle and whose standard examples are higher tangent bundles T^nQ playing a fundamental role in higher order Lagrangian formalisms. Graded bundles are graded manifolds in the sense that we can choose an atlas whose local coordinates are homogeneous functions of degrees 0,1,...,n. We prove that graded bundles have a convenient equivalent description as homogeneity structures, i.e. manifolds with a smooth action of the multiplicative monoid of non-negative reals. The main result states that each homogeneity structure admits an atlas whose local coordinates are homogeneous. Considering a natural compatibility condition of homogeneity structures we formulate, in turn, the concept of a double (r-tuple, in general) graded bundle - a broad generalization of the concept of a double (r-tuple) vector bundle. Double graded bundles are proven to be locally trivial in the sense that we can find local coordinates which are simultaneously homogeneous with respect to both homogeneity structures.

Modular classes of skew algebroid relations

Skew algebroid is a natural generalization of the concept of Lie algebroid. In this paper, for a skew algebroid E, its modular class mod(E) is defined in the classical as well as in the supergeometric formulation. It is proved that there is a homogeneous nowhere-vanishing 1-density on E* which is invariant with respect to all Hamiltonian vector fields if and only if E is modular, i.e. mod(E)=0. Further, relative modular class of a subalgebroid is introduced and studied together with its application to holonomy, as well as modular class of a skew algebroid relation. These notions provide, in particular, a unified approach to the concepts of a modular class of a Lie algebroid morphism and that of a Poisson map.

Entanglement for multipartite systems of indistinguishable particles

We analyze the concept of entanglement for multipartite system with bosonic and fermionic constituents and its generalization to systems with arbitrary parastatistics. We use the representation theory of symmetry groups to formulate a unified approach to this problem in terms of simple tensors with appropriate symmetry. For an arbitrary parastatistics, we define the S-rank generalizing the notion of the Schmidt rank. The S-rank, defined for all types of tensors, serves for distinguishing entanglement of pure states. In addition, for Bose and Fermi statistics, we construct an analog of the Jamiolkowski isomorphism.

Dirac Algebroids in Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Mechanics

We present a unified approach to constrained implicit Lagrangian and Hamiltonian systems based on the introduced concept of Dirac algebroid. The latter is a certain almost Dirac structure associated with the Courant algebroid on the dual $E^\ast$ to a vector bundle $E$. If this almost Dirac structure is integrable (Dirac), we speak about a Dirac-Lie algebroid. The bundle $E$ plays the role of the bundle of kinematic configurations (quasi-velocities), while the bundle $E^\ast$ - the role of the phase space. This setting is totally intrinsic and does not distinguish between regular and singular Lagrangians. The constraints are part of the framework, so the general approach does not change when nonholonomic constraints are imposed, and produces the (implicit) Euler-Lagrange and Hamilton equations in an elegant geometric way. The scheme includes all important cases of Lagrangian and Hamiltonian systems, no matter if they are with or without constraints, autonomous or non-autonomous etc., as well as their reductions; in particular, constrained systems on Lie algebroids. we prove also some basic facts about the geometry of Dirac and Dirac-Lie algebroids.

Lie families: theory and applications

We analyze families of non-autonomous systems of first-order ordinary differential equations admitting a common time-dependent superposition rule, i.e., a time-dependent map expressing any solution of each of these systems in terms of a generic set of particular solutions of the system and some constants. We next study relations of these families, called Lie families, with the theory of Lie and quasi-Lie systems and apply our theory to provide common time-dependent superposition rules for certain Lie families.

Double Affine Bundles

A theory of double affine and special double affine bundles, i.e. differential manifolds with two compatible (special) affine bundle structures, is developed as an affine counterpart of the theory of double vector bundles. The motivation and basic examples come from Analytical Mechanics, where double affine bundles have been recognized as a proper geometrical tool in a frame-independent description of many important systems. Different approaches to the (special) double affine bundles are compared and carefully studied together with the problems of double vector bundle models and hulls, duality, and relations to associated phase spaces, contact structures, and other canonical constructions.

Searching for extremal PPT entangled states

We study extremality in various sets of states that have positive partial transposes. One of the tools we use for this purpose is the recently formulated criterion allowing to judge if a given state is extremal in the set of PPT states. First we investigate qubit--ququart states and show that the only candidates for extremal PPT entangled states (PPTES) have ranks of the state and its partial transposition (5,5) or (5,6) (equivalently (6,5)). Then, examples of extremal states of (5,5) type and the so--called edge states of type (5,6) are provided. We also make an attempt to explore the set of PPT states with ranks (5,6). Finally, we discuss what are the possible configurations of ranks of density matrices and their respective partial transposition in general three-qubit and four-qubit symmetric states for which there may exist extremal entangled PPT states. For instance in the first case we show that the only possibilities are (4,4,4) and (4,4,5).

Higher vector bundles and multi-graded symplectic manifolds

A natural explicit condition is given ensuring that an action of the multiplicative monoid of non-negative reals on a manifold F comes from homotheties of a vector bundle structure on F, or, equivalently, from an Euler vector field. This is used in showing that double (or higher) vector bundles present in the literature can be equivalently defined as manifolds with a family of commuting Euler vector fields. Higher vector bundles can be therefore defined as manifolds admitting certain $\N^n$-grading in the structure sheaf. Consequently, multi-graded (super)manifolds are canonically associated with higher vector bundles that is an equivalence of categories. Of particular interest are symplectic multi-graded manifolds which are proven to be associated with cotangent bundles. Duality for higher vector bundles is then explained by means of the cotangent bundles as they contain the collection of all possible duals. This gives, moreover, higher generalizations of the known `universal Legendre transformation' T*E->T*E*, identifying the cotangent bundles of all higher vector bundles in duality. The symplectic multi-graded manifolds, equipped with certain homological Hamiltonian vector fields, lead to an alternative to Roytenberg's picture generalization of Lie bialgebroids, Courant brackets, Drinfeld doubles and can be viewed as geometrical base for higher BRST and Batalin-Vilkovisky formalisms. This is also a natural framework for studying n-fold Lie algebroids and related structures.

Quasi-Lie schemes: theory and applications

A powerful method for solving non-linear first-order ordinary differential equations, which is based on geometrical understanding of the corresponding dynamics of the so called Lie systems, is developed. This method allows us not only to solve some of these equations, but also gives a geometrical explanations for some, already known, ad hoc methods of dealing with such problems.

Wigner's Theorem and geometry of extreme positive maps

We consider transformation maps on the space of states which are symmetries in the sense of Wigner. Due to the convex nature of the space of states, the set of these maps has a convex structure. We investigate the possibility of a complete characterization of extreme maps of this convex body, to be able to contribute to the classification of positive maps. Our study provides a variant of Wigner's theorem originally proved for ray transformations in Hilbert spaces.

Geometric structures encoded in the Lie structure of an Atiyah algebroid

We investigate Atiyah algebroids, i.e. the infinitesimal objects of principal bundles, from the viewpoint of Lie algebraic approach to space. First we show that if the Lie algebras of smooth sections of two Atiyah algebroids are isomorphic, then the corresponding base manifolds are necessarily diffeomorphic. Further, we give two characterizations of the isomorphisms of the Lie algebras of sections for Atiyah algebroids associated to principle bundles with semisimple structure groups. For instance we prove that in the semisimple case the Lie algebras of sections are isomorphic if and only if the corresponding Lie algebroids are, or, as well, if and only if the integrating principal bundles are locally diffeomorphic. Finally, we apply these results to describe the isomorphisms of sections in the case of reductive structure groups -- surprisingly enough they are no longer determined by vector bundle isomorphisms and involve divergences on the base manifolds.

Lie algebaic characterization of supercommutative space

During the last decades algebraization of space turned out to be a promising tool at the interface between Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Starting with works by Gel'fand-Kolmogoroff and Gel'fand-Naimark, this branch developed as from the fortieth in two directions: algebraic characterization of usual geometric space on the one hand, and algebraically defined noncommutative space, which is known to be tightly related with e.g. quantum gravity and super string theory, on the other hand. In this note, we combine both aspects, prove a superversion of Shanks and Pursell's classical result stating that any isomorphism of the Lie algebras of compactly supported vector fields is implemented by a diffeomorphism of underlying manifolds. We thus provide a super Lie algebraic characterization of super and graded spaces and describe explicitly isomorphisms of the super Lie algebras of super vector fields.

Variational calculus with constraints on general algebroids

Variational calculus on a vector bundle E equipped with a structure of a general algebroid is developed, together with the corresponding analogs of Euler-Lagrange equations. Constrained systems are introduced in the variational and in the geometrical setting. The constrained Euler-Lagrange equations are derived for analogs of holonomic, vakonomic and nonholonomic constraints. This general model covers majority of first-order Lagrangian systems which are present in the literature and reduces to the standard variational calculus and the Euler-Lagrange equations in Classical Mechanics for E=TM.

The Schroedinger operator as a generalized Laplacian

The Schroedinger operators on the Newtonian space-time are defined in a way which make them independent on the class of inertial observers. In this picture the Schroedinger operators act not on functions on the space-time but on sections of certain one-dimensional complex vector bundle -- the Schroedinger line bundle. This line bundle has trivializations indexed by inertial observers and is associated with an U(1)-principal bundle with an analogous list of trivializations -- the Schroedinger principal bundle. For the Schroedinger principal bundle a natural differential calculus for `wave forms' is developed that leads to a natural generalization of the concept of Laplace-Beltrami operator associated with a pseudo-Riemannian metric. The free Schroedinger operator turns out to be the Laplace-Beltrami operator associated with a naturally distinguished invariant pseudo-Riemannian metric on the Schroedinger principal bundle. The presented framework is proven to be strictly related to the frame-independent formulation of analytical Newtonian mechanics and Hamilton-Jacobi equations, that makes a bridge between the classical and quantum theory.

On the relation between states and maps in infinite dimensions

Relations between states and maps, which are known for quantum systems in finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces, are formulated rigorously in geometrical terms with no use of coordinate (matrix) interpretation. In a tensor product realization they are represented simply by a permutation of factors. This leads to natural generalizations for infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces and a simple proof of a generalized Choi Theorem. The natural framework is based on spaces of Hilbert-Schmidt operators $\mathcal{L}_2(\mathcal{H}_2,\mathcal{H}_1)$ and the corresponding tensor products $\mathcal{H}_1\otimes\mathcal{H}_2^*$ of Hilbert spaces. It is proved that the corresponding isomorphisms cannot be naturally extended to compact (or bounded) operators, nor reduced to the trace-class operators. On the other hand, it is proven that there is a natural continuous map $\mathcal{C}:\mathcal{L}_1(\mathcal{L}_2(\mathcal{H}_2,\mathcal{H}_1))\to \mathcal{L}_\infty(\mathcal{L}(\mathcal{H}_2),\mathcal{L}_1(\mathcal{H}_1))$ from trace-class operators on $\mathcal{L}_2(\mathcal{H}_2,\mathcal{H}_1)$ (with the nuclear norm) into compact operators mapping the space of all bounded operators on $\mathcal{H}_2$ into trace class operators on $\mathcal{H}_1$ (with the operator-norm). Also in the infinite-dimensional context, the Schmidt measure of entanglement and multipartite generalizations of state-maps relations are considered in the paper.

Tangent Lifts of Poisson and Related Structures

The derivation $d_T$ on the exterior algebra of forms on a manifold $M$ with values in the exterior algebra of forms on the tangent bundle $TM$ is extended to multivector fields. These tangent lifts are studied with applications to the theory of Poisson structures, their symplectic foliations, canonical vector fields and Poisson-Lie groups.
