Eggers decomposition of polar curves in positive characteristic

Let $f$ be a power series in two variables with coefficients in an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. We identify a necessary and sufficient condition, read from the Eggers-Wall tree of $f$, for $\frac{\partial f}{\partial y}$ to admit Eggers decomposition.

Non-degeneracy conditions for plane branches

Let $x=t^n$, $y=\sum_{i=1}^{\infty}a_it^i$ be a parametrisation of the germ of a complex plane analytic curve $Γ$ at the origin. Then $Γ$ has the implicit equation $f(x,y)=0$ in the neighbourhood of the origin, where $f=\sum c_{ij}x^iy^j$ is a Weierstrass polynomial in $\mathbb{C}[[x]][y]$ of degree $n$. Every polynomial depending on coefficients $c_{ij}$ can be expressed as a polynomial depending on the coefficients $a_i$.

On some regularity condition

Let $\mathbb{K}$ be an uncountable field of characteristic zero and let $f$ be a function from $\mathbb{K}^n$ to $\mathbb{K}$. We show that if the restriction of $f$ to every affine plane $L\subset\mathbb{K}^n$ is regular, then $f$ is a regular function.

Initial Newton polynomial of the discriminant

Let $(f,g)\colon (\mathbb{C}^2,0)\longrightarrow (\mathbb{C}^2,0)$ be a holomorphic mapping with an isolated zero. We show that the initial Newton polynomial of its discriminant is determined, up to rescalling variables, by the ideals $(f)$ and $(g)$.

Higher order polars of quasi-ordinary singularities

A quasi-ordinary polynomial is a monic polynomial with coefficients in the power series ring such that its discriminant equals a monomial up to unit. In this paper we study higher derivatives of quasi-ordinary polynomials, also called higher order polars. We find factorizations of these polars. Our research in this paper goes in two directions. We generalize the results of Casas-Alvero and our previous results on higher order polars in the plane to irreducible quasi-ordinary polynomials. We also generalize the factorization of the first polar of a quasi-ordinary polynomial (not necessary irreducible) given by the first-named author and González-Pérez to higher order polars. This is a new result even in the plane case. Our results remain true when we replace quasi-ordinary polynomials by quasi-ordinary power series.

Loose edges and factorization theorems

Let $ R $ be a regular local ring with maximal ideal $ \mathfrak{m} $. We consider elements $ f \in R $ such that their Newton polyhedron has a loose edge. We show that if the symbolic restriction of $f$ to such an edge is a product of two coprime polynomials, then $f$ factorizes in the $ \mathfrak{m} $-adic completion.

Loose edges

We consider formal power series in several variables with coefficients in arbitrary field such that their Newton polyhedron has a loose edge. We show that if the symbolic restriction of the power series $f$ to such an edge is a product of two coprime polynomials, then $f$ factorizes in the ring of power series.

On Abhyankar's irreducibility criterion for quasi-ordinary polynomials

Let $f$ and $g$ be Weierstrass polynomials with coefficients in the ring of formal power series over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. Assume that $f$ is irreducible and quasi-ordinary. We show that if degree of $g$ is small enough and all monomials appearing in the resultant of $f$ and $g$ have orders big enough, then $g$ is irreducible and quasi-ordinary, generalizing Abhyankar's irreducibility criterion for plane analytic curves.

Decompositions of the higher order polars of plane branches

\noindent In \cite{Casas} Casas-Alvero found decompositions of higher order polars of an irreducible plane curve generalizing the results of Merle. We improve his result giving a finer decomposition where we determine the topological type and the number of a kind of branches that we call {\em threshold semi-roots}.

Real Jacobian mates

Let $p$ be a real polynomial in two variables. We say that a polynomial $q$ is a real Jacobian mate of $p$ if the Jacobian determinant of the mapping $(p,q):\mathbb{R}^2\to\mathbb{R}^2$ is everywhere positive. We present a class of polynomials that do not have real Jacobian mates.

A discriminant criterion of irreducibility

In this paper we give a criterion of irreducibility for a complex power series in two variables, using the notion of jacobian Newton diagrams, defined with respect to any direction. Moreover we study the singularity at infinity of a plane affine curve with one point at infinity for which the global counterpart of our main result holds.

Geometry of Pinchuk's map

Sergey Pinchuk found a polynomial map from the real plane to itself which is a local diffeomorphism but is not one-to-one. The aim of this paper is to give a geometric description of Pinchuk's map.
