Quantum reflection from an oscillating surface

We describe an experimentally realistic situation of the quantum reflection of helium atoms from an oscillating surface. The temporal modulation of the potential induces clear sidebands in the reflection probability as a function of momentum. Theses sidebands could be exploited to slow down atoms and molecules in the experiment.

Collapse and revival in inter-band oscillations of a two-band Bose-Hubbard model

We study the effect of a many-body interaction on inter-band oscillations in a two-band Bose-Hubbard model with external Stark force. Weak and strong inter-band oscillations are observed, where the latter arise from a resonant coupling of the bands. These oscillations collapse and revive due to a weak two-body interaction between the atoms. Effective models for oscillations in and out of resonance are introduced that provide predictions for the system's behaviour, particularly for the time-scales for the collapse and revival of the resonant inter-band oscillations.

Thermal non-equilibrium effects in quantum reflection

We show that the quantum reflection coefficient of ultracold heavy atoms scattering off a dielectric surface can be tuned in a wide range by suitable choice of surface and environment temperatures. This effect results from a temperature dependent long-range repulsive part of the van der Waals-Casimir-Polder-Lifshitz atom-surface interaction potential.

Atomic current across an optical lattice

We devise a microscopic model for the emergence of a collision-induced, fermionic atomic current across a tilted optical lattice. Tuning the - experimentally controllable - parameters of the microscopic dynamics allows to switch from Ohmic to negative differential conductance.
