Sharp Ill-Posedness of the Euler Equations in Lorentz Spaces

We study vortex stretching for the three-dimensional axisymmetric Euler equations without swirl in vorticity formulation. Danchin (2007) established global existence and uniqueness for bounded vorticity $\omega_0$ provided $\omega_0/r$ lies in the endpoint Lorentz space $L^{3,1}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ (together with a decay assumption on $\omega_0$). We prove that this $L^{3,1}$ endpoint is sharp: for every Lorentz exponent $q>1$, we construct multi-ring data $\omega_0 \in L^\infty (\mathbb{R}^3)$ with $\omega_0/r\in L^{3,q}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ that produce $L^\infty$-norm inflation of the vorticity; moreover, within the same class, we obtain instantaneous blow-up from data with infinitely many rings. Our initial data are inspired by the Kim--Jeong dyadic ring superposition (2022), but we crucially generalize it by allowing flexible conical support geometry for the ring profile. In the regime where outer rings are dominant -- a multiscale viewpoint appearing in recent works including Kim--Jeong (2022) and Cordoba--Martinez-Zoroa--Zheng (2025) -- we obtain a forward-in-time ODE cascade for ring amplitudes and aspect ratios in which vortex stretching weakens its own future forcing: as a ring amplifies, incompressibility flattens it, the aspect ratio collapses, and the induced stretching coefficient is geometrically depleted. A key new ingredient is a profile-localization argument that freezes the relevant Biot--Savart kernel and makes this depletion explicit, enabling us to exploit a monotone "productive window" (controlled by the cone slope) together with an exact cascade identity. This propagates stretching across scales and gives a robust lower bound on cumulative stretching, yielding ill-posedness in the full range $q>1$.

On the existence of self-similar solutions to the steady Navier-Stokes equations in high dimensions

We prove that the steady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with any given $(-3)$-homogeneous, locally Lipschitz external force on $\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\}$, $4\leq n\leq 16$, have at least one $(-1)$-homogeneous solution which is scale-invariant and regular away from the origin. The global uniqueness of the self-similar solution is obtained as long as the external force is small. The key observation is to exploit a nice relation between the radial component of the velocity and the total head pressure under the self-similarity assumption. It plays an essential role in establishing the energy estimates. If the external force has only the nonnegative radial component, we can prove the existence of $(-1)$-homogeneous solutions for all $n\geq 4$. The regularity of the solution follows from integral estimates of the positive part of the total head pressure, which is due to the maximum principle and a ``dimension-reduction" effect arising from the self-similarity.

On rigidity of the steady Ericksen-Leslie system

We study solutions, with scaling-invariant bounds, to the steady simplified Ericksen-Leslie system in $\mathbb{R}^n\setminus \{0\}$. When $n=2$, we construct and classify a class of self-similar solutions. When $n\ge 3$, we establish the rigidity asserting that if $(u,d)$ satisfies a scaling-invariant bound with a small constant, then $u\equiv 0$ and $d=$ constant for $n\geq 4$ or $u$ is a Landau solution and $d=$ constant for $n=3$. Such a smallness condition can be weaken when $n=4$ or the solutions are self-similar.

Self-Similar Solutions to the steady Navier-Stokes Equations in a two-dimensional sector

This paper is concerned with self-similar solutions of the steady Navier-Stokes system in a two-dimensional sector with the no-slip boundary condition. We give necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of the angle of the sector and the flux to guarantee the existence of self-similar solutions of a given type. We also investigate the uniqueness and non-uniqueness of flows with a given type, which not only give rigorous justifications for some statements in \cite{Rosenhead40} but also show that some numerical computations in \cite{Rosenhead40} may not be precise. The non-uniqueness result is a new phenomenon for these flows. As a consequence of the classification of self-similar solutions in the half-space, we characterize the leading order term of the steady Navier-Stokes system in an aperture domain when the flux is small. The main approach is to study the ODE system governing self-similar solutions, where the detailed properties of both complete and incomplete elliptic functions have been investigated.

Saint-Venant Estimates and Liouville-Type Theorems for the Stationary Navier-Stokes Equation in $\mathbb{R}^3$

We prove two Liouville type theorems for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb{R}^3$ under some assumptions on 1) the growth of the $L^s$ mean oscillation of a potential function of the velocity field, or 2) the relative decay of the head pressure and the square of the velocity field at infinity. The main idea is to use Saint-Venant type estimates to characterize the growth of Dirichlet energy of nontrivial solutions. These assumptions are weaker than those previously known of a similar nature.

Rigidity of Steady Solutions to the Navier-Stokes Equations in High Dimensions and its applications

Solutions with scaling-invariant bounds such as self-similar solutions, play an important role in the understanding of the regularity and asymptotic structures of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations. In this paper, we prove that any steady solution satisfying $|\Bu(x)|\leq C/|x|$ for any constant $C$ in $\mathbb{R}^n\setminus \{0\}$ with $ n \geq 4$, must be zero. Our main idea is to analyze the velocity field and the total head pressure via weighted energy estimates with suitable multipliers so that the proof is pretty elementary and short. These results not only give the Liouville-type theorem for steady solutions in higher dimensions with neither smallness nor self-similarity type assumptions, but also help to remove a class of singularities of solutions and give the optimal asymptotic behaviors of solutions at infinity in the exterior domains.

Liouville-type theorems for steady solutions to the Navier-Stokes system in a slab

Liouville-type theorems for the steady incompressible Navier-Stokes system are investigated for solutions in a three-dimensional slab with either no-slip boundary conditions or periodic boundary conditions. When the no-slip boundary conditions are prescribed, we prove that any bounded solution is trivial if it is axisymmetric or $ru^r$ is bounded, and that general three-dimensional solutions must be Poiseuille flows when the velocity is not big in $L^\infty$ space. When the periodic boundary conditions are imposed on the slab boundaries, we prove that the bounded solutions must be constant vectors if either the swirl or radial velocity is independent of the angular variable, or $ru^r$ decays to zero as $r$ tends to infinity. The proofs are based on the fundamental structure of the equations and energy estimates. The key technique is to establish a Saint-Venant type estimate that characterizes the growth of Dirichlet integral of nontrivial solutions.

Stationary solutions for the ellipsoidal BGK model in a slab

We address the boundary value problem for the ellipsoidal BGK model of the Boltzmann equation posed in a bounded interval. The existence of a unique mild solution is established under the assumption that the inflow boundary data does not concentrate too much around the zero velocity, and the gas is sufficiently rarefied.
