Low-Complexity Tensor-Based Channel Parameter Estimation for mmWave MIMO-Assisted Systems

This paper presents a low-complexity tensor-based channel estimation framework for downlink mmWave massive MIMO systems using passive Butler-matrix beamforming. By modeling received signals as a third-order PARAFAC tensor, we exploit known pilot structures via bilinear alternating least-squares (BALS) optimization to reduce computational overhead. The decoupled spatial factors are then processed via 1D and 2D ESPRIT to extract angles of arrival and departure with automatic pairing. Additionally, we derive the Cramer--Rao lower bound (CRLB) for this architecture. Simulations confirm the proposed estimator outperforms conventional least-squares, achieving accurate channel reconstruction and approaching the CRLB at moderate-to-high signal-to-noise ratios.

Structured Channel Parameter Estimation for RIS-Assisted MIMO Systems via Kronecker and Tensor Factorizations

This paper proposes structured channel-parameter estimators for reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems employing uniform rectangular arrays under line-of-sight propagation. By exploiting the Kronecker and multilinear structures of the cascaded channel, we introduce the Successive Kronecker Factorization (SKF) alongside two Third-Order Tensor Parameter Estimation (TOPE) methods: TOPE-ALS and TOPE-HOSVD. These estimators recover spatial signatures from the pilot-filtered signal matrix, and then decouple the corresponding horizontal and vertical spatial frequencies. This structured formulation achieves benchmark estimation accuracy while reducing computational complexity, offering a efficient solution for RIS-aided systems.

Low-Complexity Channel Parameter Estimation for Coprime HRIS-Assisted MIMO Systems

This paper proposes a parameter estimation scheme for uplink MIMO systems assisted by a Hybrid Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (HRIS). To reduce hardware complexity, the HRIS employs a small number of active elements arranged in a sparse coprime geometry for local sensing, while the remaining elements passively reflect signals. This simultaneous sensing and reflection significantly improves accuracy over fully passive architectures. The method leverages Khatri-Rao and Kronecker factorizations to efficiently decouple the cascaded channel at the base station. Furthermore, spatial smoothing resolves the coprime array rank deficiency, enabling robust angular extraction via Root-MUSIC. Simulations demonstrate highly resilient estimation performance across scenarios.
