Computational proof of the Mackey formula for q > 2

Let G be a connected reductive group defined over a finite field with q elements. We prove that the Mackey formula for the Lusztig induction and restriction holds in G whenever q>2 or G does not have a component of type E.

Constructing representations of Hecke algebras for complex reflection groups

We investigate the representations and the structure of Hecke algebras associated to certain finite complex reflection groups. We first describe computational methods for the construction of irreducible representations of these algebras, including a generalization of the concept of $W$-graph to the situation of complex reflection groups. We then use these techniques to find models for all irreducible representations in the case of complex reflection groups of dimension at most three. Using these models we are able to verify some important conjectures on the structure of Hecke algebras.

Automorphisms of complex reflection groups

Let $G\subset\GL(\BC^r)$ be a finite complex reflection group. We show that when $G$ is irreducible, apart from the exception $G=\Sgot_6$, as well as for a large class of non-irreducible groups, any automorphism of $G$ is the product of a central automorphism and of an automorphism which preserves the reflections. We show further that an automorphism which preserves the reflections is the product of an element of $N_{\GL(\BC^r)}(G)$ and of a "Galois" automorphism: we show that $\Gal(K/\BQ)$, where $K$ is the field of definition of $G$, injects into the group of outer automorphisms of $G$, and that this injection can be chosen such that it induces the usual Galois action on characters of $G$, apart from a few exceptional characters; further, replacing if needed $K$ by an extension of degree 2, the injection can be lifted to $\Aut(G)$, and every irreducible representation admits a model which is equivariant with respect to this lifting. Along the way we show that the fundamental invariants of $G$ can be chosen rational.

Garside and locally Garside categories

We define and give axioms for Garside and locally Garside categories. We give an application to Coxeter and Artin groups and Deligne-Lusztig varieties.

Cohomologie des variétés de Deligne-Lusztig

We study the cohomology of Deligne-Lusztig varieties with aim the construction of actions of Hecke algebras on such cohomologies, as predicted by the conjectures of Broué, Malle and Michel ultimately aimed at providing an explicit version of the abelian defect conjecture. We develop the theory for varieties associated to elements of the braid monoid and partial compactifications of them. We are able to compute the cohomology of varieties associated to (possibly twisted) rank 2 groups and powers of the longest element $w\_0$ (some indeterminacies remain for $G\_2$). We use this to construct Hecke algebra actions on the cohomology of varieties associated to $w\_0$ or its square, for groups of arbitrary rank. In a subsequent work, we construct actions associated to more general regular elements and we study their trace on cohomology.

Twisted invariant theory for reflection groups

Let $G$ be a reflection group acting on a vector space $V$ and let $γ$ be an automorphism of $V$ normalising $G$. We study how $γ$ acts on invariants and covariants (for various representations) of $G$, and properties of its eigenspaces.

Endomorphisms of Deligne-Lusztig varieties

This paper is a following to math.RT/0410454. For a finite group of Lie type we study the endomorphisms, commuting with the group action, of a Deligne-Lusztig variety associated to a regular element of the Weyl group. We state some general conjectures, in particular that the endomorphism algebra induced on the cohomology is a cyclotomic Hecke algebra, and prove them in some cases. On the way we also prove results on centralizers in braid groups.

Hurwitz action on tuples of Euclidean reflections

We show that if a tuple of Euclidean reflections has a finite orbit under the Hurwitz action of the Artin braid group, then the group generated by these reflections is finite. Humphries has published a similar statement but his proof is irremediably flawed. At the same time as correcting his proof, our proof is much simpler that Dubrovin and Mazocco's proof for triples of reflections.

Explicit presentations for exceptional braid groups

We give presentations for the braid groups associated with the complex reflection groups $G_{24}$ and $G_{27}$. For the cases of $G_{29}$, $G_{31}$, $G_{33}$ and $G_{34}$, we give (strongly supported) conjectures. These presentations were obtained with VKCURVE, a GAP package implementing Van Kampen's method.

Springer theory in braid groups and the Birman-Ko-Lee monoid

We state a conjecture about centralizers of certain roots of central elements in braid groups, and check it for Artin braid groups and some other cases. Our proof makes use of results by Birman-Ko-Lee; we give a new intrinsic account of these results.
