A Gaussian Beam Construction of de Haas-vanAlfven Resonances

In this article we consider a Bloch electron in a crystal lattice subject to slowy varying external magnetic fields. We offer an explanation of de Haas-van Alfven oscillations in terms of energy levels of approximate eigenfunctions for the magnetic Schrodinger operator by using a gaussian beam construction for a small enough magnetic field.

Spectral theory for the weak decay of muons in a uniform magnetic field

In this article we consider a mathematical model for the weak decay of muons in a uniform magnetic field according to the Fermi theory of weak interactions with V-A coupling. With this model we associate a Hamil-tonian with cutoffs in an appropriate Fock space. No infrared regularization is assumed. The Hamiltonian is self-adjoint and has a unique ground state. We specify the essential spectrum and prove the existence of asymptotic fields from which we determine the absolutely continuous spectrum. The coupling constant is supposed sufficiently small.

Hamiltonian models of interacting fermion fields in Quantum Field Theory

We consider hamiltonian models representing an arbitrary number of spin $1/2$ fermion quantum fields interacting through arbitrary processes of creation or annihilation of particles. The fields may be massive or massless. The interaction form factors are supposed to satisfy some regularity conditions in both position and momentum space. Without any restriction on the strength of the interaction, we prove that the Hamiltonian identifies to a self-adjoint operator on a tensor product of anti-symmetric Fock spaces and we establish the existence of a ground state. Our results rely on new interpolated $N_τ$ estimates. They apply to models arising from the Fermi theory of weak interactions, with ultraviolet and spatial cut-offs.

Weak interactions in a background of a uniform magnetic field. A mathematical model for the inverse beta decay.I

In this paper we consider a mathematical model for the inverse beta decay in a uniform magnetic field. With this model we associate a Hamiltonian with cutoffs in an appropriate Fock space. No infrared regularization is assumed. The Hamiltonian is selfadjoint and has a ground state. We study its essential spectrum and determine its spectrum. Conditions for uniqueness of ground state are given. The coupling constant is supposed suffciently small.

Local Decay for Weak Interactions with Massless Particles

We consider a mathematical model for the weak decay of the intermediate boson $Z^0$ into neutrinos and antineutrinos. We prove that the total Hamiltonian has a unique ground state in Fock space and we establish a limiting absorption principle, local decay and a property of relaxation to the ground state for initial states and observables suitably localized in energy and position. Our proofs rest, in particular, on Mourre's theory and a low-energy decomposition.

Spectral theory of a mathematical model in Quantum Field Theory for any spin

In this paper we use the formalism of S.Weinberg in order to construct a mathematical model based on the weak decay of hadrons and nuclei. In particular we consider a model which generalizes the weak decay of the nucleus of the cobalt. We associate with this model a Hamiltonian with cutoffs in a Fock space. The Hamiltonian is self-adjoint and has an unique ground state. By using the commutator theory we get a limiting absorption principle from which we deduce that the spectrum of the Hamiltonian is absolutely continuous above the energy of the ground state and below the first threshold.

Spectral Theory near Thresholds for Weak Interactions with Massive Particles

We consider a Hamiltonian describing the weak decay of the massive vector boson Z0 into electrons and positrons. We show that the spectrum of the Hamiltonian is composed of a unique isolated ground state and a semi-axis of essential spectrum. Using a suitable extension of Mourre's theory, we prove that the essential spectrum below the boson mass is purely absolutely continuous.

On the Infrared Problem for the Dressed Non-Relativistic Electron in a Magnetic Field

We consider a non-relativistic electron interacting with a classical magnetic field pointing along the $x_3$-axis and with a quantized electromagnetic field. The system is translation invariant in the $x_3$-direction and we consider the reduced Hamiltonian $H(P_3)$ associated with the total momentum $P_3$ along the $x_3$-axis. For a fixed momentum $P_3$ sufficiently small, we prove that $H(P_3)$ has a ground state in the Fock representation if and only if $E'(P_3)=0$, where $P_3 \mapsto E'(P_3)$ is the derivative of the map $P_3 \mapsto E(P_3) = \inf σ(H(P_3))$. If $E'(P_3) \neq 0$, we obtain the existence of a ground state in a non-Fock representation. This result holds for sufficiently small values of the coupling constant.

A mathematical model for the Fermi weak interactions

We consider a mathematical model of the Fermi theory of weak interactions as patterned according to the well-known current-current coupling of quantum electrodynamics. We focuss on the example of the decay of the muons into electrons, positrons and neutrinos but other examples are considered in the same way. We prove that the Hamiltonian describing this model has a ground state in the fermionic Fock space for a sufficiently small coupling constant. Furthermore we determine the absolutely continuous spectrum of the Hamiltonian and by commutator estimates we prove that the spectrum is absolutely continuous away from a small neighborhood of the thresholds of the free Hamiltonian. For all these results we do not use any infrared cutoff or infrared regularization even if fermions with zero mass are involved.

The dressed mobile atoms and ions

We consider free atoms and ions in $\R^3$ interacting with the quantized electromagnetic field. Because of the translation invariance we consider the reduced hamiltonian associated with the total momentum. After introducing an ultraviolet cutoff we prove that the reduced hamiltonian for atoms has a ground state if the coupling constant and the total momentum are sufficiently small. In the case of ions an extra infrared regularization is needed. We also consider the case of the hydrogen atom in a constant magnetic field. Finally we determine the absolutely continuous spectrum of the reduced hamiltonian.

Hierarchy of Multipolar Terms For Non Relativistic Moving Atoms in QED

In this article an hierarchy of terms in the expansion of the multipolar Hamiltonian for non relativistic moving atoms in QED is considered. The particular case of neutral composite systems of 2,3 and 4 particles is considered. The proposed hierarchy is based on a scaling analysis of the multipolar Hamiltonian together with a multipolar expansion of the coupling terms. We give explicit results up to the fourth order in the fine structure constant.
