On the stationary measures of the critical Ornstein--Uhlenbeck process

We study linear and symmetric diffusion processes on $\mathbb{R}^{\mathbb{Z}^d}$ that can be seen as the Langevin dynamics of the (inhomogeneous) harmonic crystal for given conductances, with a particular focus on their stationary distributions. Despite the linearity of the interaction, we exhibit a rich variety of behaviours, depending on the disorder encoded by the conductances. Our main results provide essentially sharp criteria on the conductances ensuring that every stationary measure is reversible. We also provide examples for which these criteria fail and where either no stationary measures exist or reversible and non-reversible stationary measures coexist. Additionally, we show that the linear system can even exhibit non-trivial time-periodic behaviour and provide a spectral characterisation of the occurrence of such oscillations. The case of deterministic conductances is complemented by a study of the case of random conductances under quite general moment assumptions.

Scaling Limits of Line Models in Degenerate Environment

We consider a 2-dimensional model of random walk in random environment known as line model. The environment is described by two independent families of i.i.d. random variables dictating rates of jumps in vertical, respectively horizontal directions, and whose values are constant along vertical, respect. horizontal lines. When jump rates are heavy-tailed in one of the directions, we prove that the random walk becomes superdiffusive in that direction, with an explicit scaling limit written as a two-dimensional Brownian motion time-changed (in one of the components) by a process introduced by Kesten and Spitzer in 1979. In the case of a fully degenerate environment, a sufficient condition for non-explosion is provided, and conjectures on the associated scaling limit are formulated.

Gradient estimates of the heat kernel for random walks among time-dependent random conductances

In this paper we consider a time-continuous random walk in $\mathbb{Z}^d$ in a dynamical random environment with symmetric jump rates to nearest neighbours. We assume that these random conductances are stationary and ergodic and, moreover, that they are bounded from below but unbounded from above with finite first moment. We derive sharp on-diagonal estimates for the annealed first and second discrete space derivative of the heat kernel which then yield local limit theorems for the corresponding kernels. Assuming weak algebraic off-diagonal estimates, we then extend these results to the annealed Green function and its first and second derivative. Our proof which extends the result of Delmotte and Deuschel (2005) to unbounded conductances with first moment only, is an adaptation of the recent entropy method of Benjamini et. al. (2015).

Quenched invariance principle for random walks in random environments admitting a cycle decomposition

We study a class of non-reversible, continuous-time random walks in random environments on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ that admit a cycle representation with finite cycle length. The law of the transition rates, taking values in $[0, \infty)$, is assumed to be stationary and ergodic with respect to space shifts. Moreover, the transition rate from $x$ to $y$, denoted by $c^ω(x,y)$, is a superposition of non-negative random weights on oriented cycles that contain the edge $(x,y)$. We prove a quenched invariance principle under moment conditions that are comparable to the well-known p-q moment condition of Andres, Deuschel, and Slowik [2] for the random conductance model. A key ingredient in proving the sublinearity is an energy estimate for the non-symmetric generator. Our result extends that of Deuschel and Kösters [12] beyond strong ellipticity and bounded cycle lengths.

A Ray-Knight theorem for $\nablaϕ$ interface models and scaling limits

We introduce a natural measure on bi-infinite random walk trajectories evolving in a time-dependent environment driven by the Langevin dynamics associated to a gradient Gibbs measure with convex potential. We derive an identity relating the occupation times of the Poissonian cloud induced by this measure to the square of the corresponding gradient field, which - generically - is not Gaussian. In the quadratic case, we recover a well-known generalization of the second Ray-Knight theorem. We further determine the scaling limits of the various objects involved in dimension 3, which are seen to exhibit homogenization. In particular, we prove that the renormalized square of the gradient field converges under appropriate rescaling to the Wick-ordered square of a Gaussian free field on $\mathbb{R}^3$ with suitable diffusion matrix, thus extending a celebrated result of Naddaf and Spencer regarding the scaling limit of the field itself.

Aging for the stationary Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation and related models

We study the aging property for stationary models in the KPZ universality class. In particular, we show aging for the stationary KPZ fixed point, the Cole-Hopf solution to the stationary KPZ equation, the height function of the stationary TASEP, last-passage percolation with boundary conditions and stationary directed polymers in the intermediate disorder regime. All of these models are shown to display a universal aging behavior characterized by the rate of decay of their correlations. As a comparison, we show aging for models in the Edwards-Wilkinson universality class where a different decay exponent is obtained. A key ingredient to our proofs is a characteristic of space-time stationarity - covariance-to-variance reduction - which allows to deduce the asymptotic behavior of the correlations of two space-time points by the one of the variances at one point. We formulate several open problems.

Green kernel asymptotics for two-dimensional random walks under random conductances

We consider random walks among random conductances on $\mathbb{Z}^2$ and establish precise asymptotics for the associated potential kernel and the Green's function of the walk killed upon exiting balls. The result is proven for random walks on i.i.d. supercritical percolation clusters among ergodic degenerate conductances satisfying a moment condition. We also provide a similar result for the time-dynamic random conductance model. As an application we present a scaling limit for the variances in the Ginzburg-Landau $\nabla ϕ$-interface model.

Quenched tail estimate for the random walk in random scenery and in random layered conductance II

This is a continuation of our earlier work [Stochastic Processes and their Applications, 129(1), pp.102--128, 2019] on the random walk in random scenery and in random layered conductance. We complete the picture of upper deviation of the random walk in random scenery, and also prove a bound on lower deviation probability. Based on these results, we determine asymptotics of the return probability, a certain moderate deviation probability, and the Green function of the random walk in random layered conductance.

On the gradient dynamics associated with wetting models

We consider several critical wetting models. In the discrete case, these probability laws are known to converge, after an appropriate rescaling, to the law of a reflecting Brownian motion, or of the modulus of a Brownian bridge, according to the boundary conditions. In the continuous case, a corresponding convergence result is proven in this paper, which allows to approximate the law of a reflecting Brownian motion by the law of Brownian meander tilted by its local time near the origin. On the other hand, these laws can be seen as the reversible probability measure of some Markov processes, namely, the dynamics which are encoded by integration by parts formulae. After proving the tightness of the associated reversible dynamics in the discrete case, based on heuristic considerations on the integration by parts formulae, we provide a conjecture on the limiting process, which we believe to satisfy a Bessel SPDE as introduced in a recent work by Elad Altman and Zambotti.

Additive functionals as rough paths

We consider additive functionals of stationary Markov processes and show that under Kipnis-Varadhan type conditions they converge in rough path topology to a Stratonovich Brownian motion, with a correction to the Levy area that can be described in terms of the asymmetry (non-reversibility) of the underlying Markov process. We apply this abstract result to three model problems: First we study random walks with random conductances under the annealed law. If we consider the Ito rough path, then we see a correction to the iterated integrals even though the underlying Markov process is reversible. If we consider the Stratonovich rough path, then there is no correction. The second example is a non-reversible Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, while the last example is a diffusion in a periodic environment. As a technical step we prove an estimate for the p-variation of stochastic integrals with respect to martingales that can be viewed as an extension of the rough path Burkholder-Davis-Gundy inequalities for local martingale rough paths of Friz et al to the case where only the integrator is a local martingale.

Quenched local central limit theorem for random walks in a time-dependent balanced random environment

We prove a quenched local central limit theorem for continuous-time random walks in $\mathbb Z^d, d\ge 2$, in a uniformly-elliptic time-dependent balanced random environment which is ergodic under space-time shifts. We also obtain Gaussian upper and lower bounds for quenched and (positive and negative) moment estimates of the transition probabilities and asymptotics of the discrete Green function.

Pathwise McKean-Vlasov Theory with Additive Noise

Abstract. We take a pathwise approach to classical McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations with additive noise, as e.g. exposed in Sznitmann [38]. Our study was prompted by some concrete problems in battery modelling [23], and also by recent progrss on rough-pathwise McKean-Vlasov theory, notably Cass-Lyons [10], and then Bailleul, Catellier and Delarue [4]. Such a "pathwise McKean-Vlasov theory" can be traced back to Tanaka [40]. This paper can be seen as an attempt to advertize the ideas, power and simplicity of the pathwise appproach, not so easily extracted from [4, 10, 40], together with a number of novel applications. These include mean field convergence without a priori independence and exchangeability assumption; common noise, càdlàg noise, and reflecting boundaries. Last not least, we generalize Dawson-Gärtner large deviations and the central limit theorem to a non-Brownian noise setting.

Heat kernel estimates for random walks with degenerate weights

We establish Gaussian-type upper bounds on the heat kernel for a continuous-time random walk on a graph with unbounded weights under an ergodicity assumption. For the proof we use Davies' perturbation method, where we show a maximal inequality for the perturbed heat kernel via Moser iteration.

Quenched invariance principle for random walks with time-dependent ergodic degenerate weights

We study a continuous-time random walk, $X$, on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ in an environment of dynamic random conductances taking values in $(0, \infty)$. We assume that the law of the conductances is ergodic with respect to space-time shifts. We prove a quenched invariance principle for the Markov process $X$ under some moment conditions on the environment. The key result on the sublinearity of the corrector is obtained by Moser's iteration scheme.

Heat kernel estimates and intrinsic metric for random walks with general speed measure under degenerate conductances

We establish heat kernel upper bounds for a continuous-time random walk under unbounded conductances satisfying an integrability assumption, where we correct and extend recent results by the authors to a general class of speed measures. The resulting heat kernel estimates are governed by the intrinsic metric induced by the speed measure. We also provide a comparison result of this metric with the usual graph distance, which is optimal in the context of the random conductance model with ergodic conductances.

Invariance principle for the random conductance model in a degenerate ergodic environment

We study a continuous time random walk, $X$, on ${\mathbb{Z}}^d$ in an environment of random conductances taking values in $(0,\infty)$. We assume that the law of the conductances is ergodic with respect to space shifts. We prove a quenched invariance principle for $X$ under some moment conditions of the environment. The key result on the sublinearity of the corrector is obtained by Moser's iteration scheme.
