Efficient 3D Space Time Space Block Code for Future Terrestrial Digital TV

This article introduces a 3D space-time-space block code for future terrestrial digital TV in single frequency networks. The proposed 3D code is based on a double layer structure designed for inter-cell and intra-cell space time coded transmissions. We show that this new structure is particularly efficient for SFN environments regardless of the location of the receiver. It is then suitable for fixed, portable and mobile receptions.

Bit Error Rate Prediction of Coded MIMO-OFDM Systems

Bit error rate (BER) prediction over channel realisations has emerged as an active research area. In this paper, we give analytical signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) evaluation of MIMO-OFDM systems using an iterative receiver. Using this analytical SINR expression, we propose an accurate BER prediction method based on effective exponential SINR mapping (EESM) method. We show by simulations that our method is independent of the channel realisation and of the MIMO scheme. It is only dependent on the modulation and coding scheme.

Robustness of MIMO-OFDM Schemes for Future Digital TV to Carrier Frequency Offset

This paper investigates the impact of carrier frequency offset (CFO) on the performance of different MIMO-OFDM schemes with high spectral efficiency for next generation of terrestrial digital TV. We show that all studied MIMO-OFDM schemes are sensitive to CFO when it is greater than 1% of inter-carrier spacing. We show also that the Alamouti scheme is the most sensitive MIMO scheme to CFO

An OFDM-CDMA scheme for high data rate UWB applications

In this paper, we investigate a new waveform for UWB systems obtained by the combination of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). The proposed system, called Spread Spectrum - Multi-Carrier - Multiple Access (SS-MC-MA) turns out to be a judicious solution to combat frequency selectivity and narrowband interferers, and to manage the coexistence of several users and piconets. It is shown that the addition of a degree of freedom brought by the spreading component of SS-MC-MA allows to optimize jointly the assignment of the number of used codes and coding rates in order to make the system more robust. Through simulations, it is demonstrated that the new system can outperform Multi-Band OFDM Alliance (MBOA) for low data rates and is able to provide wider range of rates.

Combination of OFDM and CDMA for high data rate UWB

For Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) systems, resource allocation between several users within a piconet and the coexistence of several piconets are very important points to take into consideration for the optimization of high data rate Ultra Wide Band (UWB) systems. To improve the performance of the Multi-Band OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) solution proposed by the Multi-Band OFDM Alliance (MBOA), the addition of a spreading component in the frequency domain is a good solution since it makes resource allocation easier and also offers better robustness against channel frequency selectivity and narrowband interference. The Spread Spectrum - Multi-Carrier - Multiple Access (SS-MC-MA) system proposed in this article offers not only the advantages of Multi-Carrier - Coded Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) brought by frequency spreading, but also a more effective dynamic resource allocation in a multi-user and multi-piconet context. These improvements are obtained without increasing the complexity of the radio-frequency part compared to the classical MBOA solution.

Performance of STBC MC-CDMA systems over outdoor realistic MIMO channels

The paper deals with orthogonal space-time block coded MC-CDMA systems in outdoor realistic downlink scenarios with up to two transmit and receive antennas. Assuming no channel state information at the transmitter, we compare several linear single-user detection and spreading schemes, with or without channel coding, achieving a spectral efficiency of 1-2 bits/s/Hz. The different results obtained demonstrate that spatial diversity significantly improves the performance of MC-CDMA systems, and allows different chip-mapping without notably decreasing performance. Moreover, the global system exhibits a good trade-off between complexity at mobile stations and performance. Then, Alamouti's STBC MC-CDMA schemes derive full benefit from the frequency and spatial diversities and can be considered as a very realistic and promising candidate for the air interface downlink of the 4/sup th/ generation mobile radio systems.
