Spectrum of hypersurfaces with small extrinsic radius or large $λ_1$ in euclidean spaces

In this paper, we prove that Euclidean hypersurfaces with almost extremal extrinsic radius or $λ_1$ have a spectrum that asymptotically contains the spectrum of the extremal sphere in the Reilly or Hasanis-Koutroufiotis Inequalities. We also consider almost extremal hypersurfaces which satisfy a supplementary bound on $v_M\|\B\|_α^n$ and show that their spectral and topological properties depends on the position of $α$ with respect to the critical value $\dim M$. The study of the metric shape of these extremal hypersurfaces will be done in \cite{AG1}, using estimates of the present paper.

Eigenvalue pinching and application to the stability and the almost umbilicity of hypersurfaces

In this paper we give pinching theorems for the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplacian on the compact hypersurfaces of ambient spaces with bounded sectional curvature. As application we deduce rigidity results for stable constant mean curvature hypersurfaces $M$ of these spaces $N$. Indeed, we prove that if $M$ is included in a ball of radius small enough then the Hausdorff-distance between $M$ and a geodesic sphere $S$ of $N$ is small. Moreover $M$ is diffeomorphic and quasi-isometric to $S$. As other application, we give rigidity results for almost umbilic hypersurfaces.

Hypersurfaces with small extrinsic radius or large $λ_1$ in Euclidean spaces

We prove that hypersurfaces of $\R^{n+1}$ which are almost extremal for the Reilly inequality on $λ_1$ and have $L^p$-bounded mean curvature ($p>n$) are Hausdorff close to a sphere, have almost constant mean curvature and have a spectrum which asymptotically contains the spectrum of the sphere. We prove the same result for the Hasanis-Koutroufiotis inequality on extrinsic radius. We also prove that when a supplementary $L^q$ bound on the second fundamental is assumed, the almost extremal manifolds are Lipschitz close to a sphere when $q>n$, but not necessarily diffeomorphic to a sphere when $q\leqslant n$.

On the cohomology algebra of some classes of geometrically formal manifolds

We investigate harmonic forms of geometrically formal metrics, which are defined as those having the exterior product of any two harmonic forms still harmonic. We prove that a formal Sasakian metric can exist only on a real cohomology sphere and that holomorphic forms of a formal Kähler metric are parallel w.r.t. the Levi-Civita connection. In the general Riemannian case a formal metric with maximal second Betti number is shown to be flat. Finally we prove that a six-dimensional manifold with $b_1 \neq 1, b_2 \geqslant 2$ and not having the cohomology algebra of $\mathbb{T}^3 \times S^3$ carries a symplectic structure as soon as it admits a formal metric.

A spinorial analogue of Aubin's inequality

Let $(M,g,\si)$ be a compact Riemannian spin manifold of dimension $\geq 2$. For any metric $\tilde g$ conformal to $g$, we denote by $\tildeλ$ the first positive eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on $(M,\tilde g,\si)$. We show that $$\inf_{\tilde{g} \in [g]} \tildeλ\Vol(M,\tilde g)^{1/n} \leq (n/2) \Vol(S^n)^{1/n}.$$ This inequality is a spinorial analogue of Aubin's inequality, an important inequality in the solution of the Yamabe problem. The inequality is already known in the case $n \geq 3$ and in the case $n = 2$, $\ker D=\{0\}$. Our proof also works in the remaining case $n=2$, $\ker D\neq \{0\}$. With the same method we also prove that any conformal class on a Riemann surface contains a metric with $2\tildeλ^2\leq \tildeμ$, where $\tildeμ$ denotes the first positive eigenvalue of the Laplace operator.

The first eigenvalue of Dirac and Laplace operators on surfaces

Let $(M,g,σ)$ be a compact Riemmannian surface equipped with a spin structure $σ$. For any metric $\tilde{g}$ on $M$, we denote by $μ\_1(\tilde{g})$ (resp. $λ\_1(\tilde{g})$) the first positive eigenvalue of the Laplacian (resp. the Dirac operator) with respect to the metric $\tilde{g}$. In this paper, we show that $$\inf \frac{λ\_1(\tilde{g})^2}{μ\_1(\tilde{g})} \leqslant {1/2}.$$ where the infimum is taken over the metrics $\tilde{g}$ conformal to $g$. This answer a question asked by Agricola, Ammann and Friedrich

A pinching theorem for the first eigenvalue of the laplacian on hypersurface of the euclidean space

In this paper, we give pinching Theorems for the first nonzero eigenvalue $λ$ of the Laplacian on the compact hypersurfaces of the Euclidean space. Indeed, we prove that if the volume of $M$ is 1 then, for any $ε>0$, there exists a constant $C\_ε$ depending on the dimension $n$ of $M$ and the $L\_{\infty}$-norm of the mean curvature $H$, so that if the $L\_{2p}$-norm $\|H\|\_{2p}$ ($p\geq 2$) of $H$ satisfies $n\|H\|\_{2p}-C\_ε<λ$, then the Hausdorff-distance between $M$ and a round sphere of radius $(n/λ)^{1/2}$ is smaller than $ε$. Furthermore, we prove that if $C$ is a small enough constant depending on $n$ and the $L\_{\infty}$-norm of the second fundamental form, then the pinching condition $n\|H\|\_{2p}-C<\la$ implies that $M$ is diffeomorphic to an $n$-dimensional sphere.
