A Kramers' type law for the first collision-time of two self-stabilizing diffusions and of their particle approximations

The present work investigates the asymptotic behaviors, at the zero-noise limit, of the first collision-time and first collision-location related to a pair of self-stabilizing diffusions and of their related particle approximations. These asymptotic are considered in a peculiar framework where diffusions evolve in a double-wells landscape and where collisions manifest due to the combined action of the Brownian motions driving each diffusion and the action of a self-stabilizing kernel. As the Brownian effects vanish, we show that first collision-times grow at an explicit exponential rate and that the related collision-locations persist at a special point in space. These results are mainly obtained by linking collision phenomena for diffusion processes with exit-time problems of random perturbed dynamical systems, and by exploiting Freidlin-Wentzell's LDP approach to solve these exit-time problems. Importantly, we consider two distinctive situations: the one-dimensional case (where true collisions can be directly studied) and the general multidimensional case (where collisions are required to be enlarged).

Instantaneous turbulent kinetic energy modelling based on Lagrangian stochastic approach in CFD and application to wind energy

We present the construction of an original stochastic model for the instantaneous turbulent kinetic energy at a given point of a flow, and we validate estimator methods on this model with observational data examples. Motivated by the need for wind energy industry of acquiring relevant statistical information of air motion at a local place, we adopt the Lagrangian description of fluid flows to derive, from the $3$D+time equations of the physics, a $0$D+time-stochastic model for the time series of the instantaneous turbulent kinetic energy at a given position. Specifically, based on the Lagrangian stochastic description of a generic fluid-particles, we derive a family of mean-field dynamics featuring the square norm of the turbulent velocity. By approximating at equilibrium the characteristic nonlinear terms of the dynamics, we recover the so called Cox-Ingersoll-Ross process, which was previously suggested in the literature for modelling wind speed. We then propose a calibration procedure for the parameters employing both direct methods and Bayesian inference. In particular, we show the consistency of the estimators and validate the model through the quantification of uncertainty, with respect to the range of values given in the literature for some physical constants of turbulence modelling.

Rate of propagation of chaos for diffusive stochastic particle systems via Girsanov transformation

This paper focus on investigating the explicit rate of convergence for the propagation of chaos, in a pathwise sense a family of interacting stochastic particle related to some Brownian driven McKean-Vlasov dynamics. Precisely the McKean form of nonlinearity is concentrated on a path dependent drift component and satisfies a particular sub-gaussian moment control. Such control enables to derive a uniform estimate of the cost in terms of exponential martingale between the particle and its McKean/mean-field limit system which in turn provide an optimal rate of propagation of chaos in terms of the total variation distance. As a by-product, we deepen some recent propagation of chaos results due to Lacker 2018 and provides a partial stochastic interpretation of the entropy control technique introduced in Jabin and Wang 2016.

Diffusion processes with weak constraint through penalization approximation

In this paper, we investigate the construction of a diffusion process whose time-marginal densities are constrained to belong to a given set at all time. The construction is obtained from a penalization approximation to the constraint set, acting on the Wasserstein distance W2 to the constraint space. Under some technical assumptions on the constraint space and the initial distribution of the model, the penalization approximation yields to a stochastic differential equation analogous to the Skorohod problem of reflected diffusion.

A variational approach to some transport inequalities

We relate transport-entropy inequalities to the study of critical points of functionals defined on the space of probability measures. This approach leads in particular to a new proof of a result by Otto and Villani [43] showing that the logarithmic Sobolev inequality implies Talagrand's transport inequality.

Lagrangian stochastic models with specular boundary condition

In this paper, we prove the well-posedness of a conditional McKean Lagrangian stochastic model endowing the specular boundary condition and the mean no--permeability condition in smooth bounded confinement domain D. This result extend our previous work, where we dealt with the case where the confinement domain is the upper--half plane and where the specular boundary condition is introduced in generic Langevin process owing to some well known results on the law of the passage times at zero of the Brownian primitive. The extension to more general confinement domain exhibit more difficulties that can be handled by combining stochastic calculus and the analysis of kinetic equations. As a prerequisite for the nonlinear case, we construct a Langevin process confined in D and satisfying the specular boundary condition. We then use PDE techniques to construct the time-marginal densities of the nonlinear process from which we are able to exhibit the conditional McKean Lagrangian stochastic model.
