Quantum Low-Density Parity-Check Codes

Quantum error correction is an indispensable ingredient for scalable quantum computing. In this Perspective we discuss a particular class of quantum codes called low-density parity-check (LDPC) quantum codes. The codes we discuss are alternatives to the surface code, which is the currently leading candidate to implement quantum fault-tolerance. We introduce the zoo of LDPC quantum codes and discuss their potential for making quantum computers robust against noise. In particular, we explain recent advances in the theory of LDPC quantum codes related to certain product constructions and discuss open problems in the field.

Real Springer fibers and odd arc algebras

We give a topological description of the two-row Springer fiber over the real numbers. We show its cohomology ring coincides with the oddification of the cohomology ring of the complex Springer fiber introduced by Lauda-Russell. We also realize Ozsváth-Rasmussen-Szabó odd TQFT from pullbacks and exceptional pushforwards along inclusion and projection maps between hypertori. Using these results, we construct the odd arc algebra as a convolution algebra over components of the real Springer fiber, giving an odd analogue of a construction of Stroppel-Webster.

Group completion in the K-theory and Grothendieck-Witt theory of proto-exact categories

We study the algebraic $K$-theory and Grothendieck-Witt theory of proto-exact categories, with a particular focus on classes of examples of $\mathbb{F}_1$-linear nature. Our main results are analogues of theorems of Quillen and Schlichting, relating the $K$-theory or Grothendieck-Witt theories of proto-exact categories defined using the (hermitian) $Q$-construction and group completion.

Algebraic K-theory and Grothendieck-Witt theory of monoid schemes

We study the algebraic $K$-theory and Grothendieck-Witt theory of proto-exact categories of vector bundles over monoid schemes. Our main results are the complete description of the algebraic $K$-theory space of an integral monoid scheme $X$ in terms of its Picard group $\operatorname{Pic}(X)$ and pointed monoid of regular functions $Γ(X, \mathcal{O}_X)$ and a description of the Grothendieck-Witt space of $X$ in terms of an additional involution on $\operatorname{Pic}(X)$. We also prove space-level projective bundle formulae in both settings.

Springer Motives

We show that the motive of a Springer fiber is pure Tate. We then consider a category of equivariant Springer motives on the nilpotent cone and construct an equivalence to the derived category of graded modules over the graded affine Hecke algebra.

Mixed Motives and Geometric Representation Theory in Equal Characteristic

Let $\mathbb{k}$ be a field of characteristic $p$. We introduce a formalism of mixed sheaves with coefficients in $\mathbb{k}$ and showcase its use in representation theory. More precisely, we construct for all quasi-projective schemes $X$ over an algebraic closure of $\mathbb{F}_p$ a $\mathbb{k}$-linear triangulated category of motives on $X$. Using work of Ayoub (2007), Cisinski-Deglise (2012) and Geisser-Levine (2000), we show that this system of categories has a six functors formalism and computes higher Chow groups. Indeed, it behaves similarly to other categories of sheaves that one is used to. We attempt to make its construction also accessible to non-experts. We then consider the subcategory of stratified mixed Tate motives defined for affinely stratified varieties $X$, discuss perverse and parity motives and prove formality results. As an example, we combine these results and Soergel (2000) to construct a geometric and graded version of Soergel's modular category $\mathscr O(G)$, consisting of rational representations of a split semisimple group $G/\mathbb{k}$, and thereby equip it with a full six functor formalism (see Riche-Soergel-Williamson (2014) and Achar-Riche (2016) for other approaches). The main idea of using motives in geometric representation theory in this way as well as many results about stratified mixed Tate motives are directly borrowed from Soergel and Wendt, who tell the story in characteristic zero.

Graded and Geometric Parabolic Induction for Category $\mathcal{O}$

We prove that the parabolic induction functor on BGG-category $\mathcal{O}$ associated to a complex reductive Lie algebra is gradable, that is, lifts to graded category $\mathcal{O}$ as constructed by Beilinson-Ginzburg-Soergel. Graded category $\mathcal{O}$ is equivalent to a category of stratified mixed Tate motives on a corresponding flag variety as recently defined by Soergel-Wendt. The graded version of parabolic induction is induced by a geometric parabolic induction functor we construct on the level of stratified mixed Tate motives. We also describe the effect of parabolic induction on the level of Soergel modules.

Computing the Tutte Polynomial of a Matroid from its Lattice of Cyclic Flats

We show how the Tutte polynomial of a matroid $M$ can be computed from its condensed configuration, which is a statistic of its lattice of cyclic flats. The results imply that the Tutte polynomial of $M$ is already determined by the abstract lattice of its cyclic flats together with their cardinalities and ranks. They furthermore generalize a similiar statement for perfect matroid designs due to Mphako and help to understand families of matroids with identical Tutte polynomial as constructed by Ken Shoda.
