All-Order Corrections To Higgs Boson Production In Association With Jets

We present a new framework for calculating multi-jet observables. The framework is based on the factorisation of scattering amplitudes in the kinematical limit of large invariant mass between all particles. We show that by constraining the analyticity of scattering amplitudes away from this limits, we get good agreement order by order with the full, fixed order perturbative calculation at the low orders where these are available, and therefore get firm predictions on the all-order behaviour. As an example, we study Higgs boson production through gluon fusion in association with at least two jets at the LHC.

Higgs Boson Production in Association with Multiple Hard Jets

We elucidate a new technique for estimating the production of multiple (at least two) hard jets in Higgs production via gluon-gluon fusion. The approach is based upon high energy factorisation, with the region of applicability extended by constraints on the analytic behaviour of the scattering amplitudes stemming from known all-order results. The method approximates both real and virtual corrections, and allows for the resummation in an n-parton inclusive event sample of the terms dominant in the high energy limit. The resulting approximation is matched to the known tree level matrix elements for the production of a Higgs boson in association with 2 and 3 jets, and implemented in a Monte Carlo generator. Example results are presented and characteristic radiation patterns discussed.

A New Framework for Multijet Predictions and its application to Higgs Boson production at the LHC

We present a new framework for calculating multi-jet observables through resummation. The framework is based on the factorisation of scattering amplitudes in an asymptotic limit. By imposing simple constraints on the analytic behaviour of the result when applied away from this limit, we get good agreement with the known lowest order perturbative behaviour of the scattering amplitude, and predictions for the behaviour to all orders in the perturbative series. As an example of application we study predictions for Higgs Boson production through gluon fusion at the LHC in association with at least two jets.

QCD and Electroweak Interference in Higgs production by Gauge Boson Fusion

We explicitly calculate the contribution to Higgs production at the LHC from the interference between gluon-gluon and Weak Vector Boson fusion, and compare it to the pure QCD and pure Electro-weak result. While the effect is small at tree level, we speculate it will be significantly enhanced by loop effects.

Radiative B decay spectrum: DGE at NNLO

We compute the differential B -> X_s gamma decay width in the Standard Model as a function of the photon energy using Dressed Gluon Exponentiation (DGE). The resummed spectrum is matched with the fixed-order expansion, making use of the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) results for the matrix element of the magnetic dipole interaction O_7 and NLO ones for other operators in the effective Weak Hamiltonian. We develop a new technique to implement constraints on the analytic structure of the Sudakov factor in moment space. This improves the behavior of the resummed spectrum away from the Sudakov region. We also derive an analytic expression for the Borel transform of the perturbative series for the O_7 spectrum in the large-beta_0 limit. Using this example we demonstrate that exponentiation in moment space is necessary for the calculation of the spectrum for E_gamma > 2 GeV. Finally, we investigate numerically the relation between renormalons, power corrections and support properties. We present predictions for the branching fraction and the first few spectral moments as a function of a cut E_gamma>E_0 and estimate the theoretical uncertainty.

The Quark-Antiquark Contribution to the Fully Exclusive BFKL Evolution at NLL Accuracy

We calculate the quark-anti-quark contribution to the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections to the BFKL kernel, retaining the dependence on the momenta of the produced particles. This allows us to study the details of the NLL corrections. We demonstrate that the standard calculation of the NLL corrections to the scattering of two off-shell gluons includes contributions from energies far above that which is probed at LL. This explicitly violates energy and momentum conservation in the evolution and could be a source of the reported large NLL corrections. The presented calculation is a step towards combining energy and momentum conservation with full NLL accuracy in the evolution.

Multi-Jet Processes in the High Energy Limit of QCD

We discuss how the multi-Regge factorisation of QCD amplitudes can be used in the study of multi-jet processes at colliders. We describe how the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) BFKL evolution can be combined with energy and momentum conservation. By recalculating the quark contribution to the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections to the BFKL kernel we can study several properties of the NLL corrections. We demonstrate that in the standard analysis, the NLL corrections to a single gluon emission includes contributions from significantly more energetic quark--anti-quark configurations, something that could contribute to the sizable NLL corrections in the standard BFKL analysis.

On the role of NLL corrections and Energy Conservation in the High Energy Evolution of QCD

We present a new method for solving the BFKL evolution applicable at both leading and next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, and tailored to the study of QCD multi-jet events at colliders. We utilise this to discuss corrections to the standard analysis. There are known, large corrections from energy and momentum conservation. We show that, despite claims to the contrary in the literature, these are unrelated to the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections to the evolution kernel.

Progress in computing inclusive B decay spectra

We review the progress in the QCD calculation of inclusive decay spectra. It was recently shown that the inherent infrared finiteness of inclusive spectra extends beyond the level of logarithms. Dressed Gluon Exponentiation makes practical use of this property by computing the Sudakov exponent as a Borel sum. Based on renormalon analysis, infrared sensitivity in the exponent is reflected in power corrections that are inversely proportional to the third power of the mass. Therefore, the parametric enhancement of non-perturbative corrections near the phase--space boundary is effective only in a small region. Consequently, the on-shell decay spectrum provides a good approximation to the meson decay. In particular, it facilitates a precise determination of V_ub from present measurements of inclusive charmless semileptonic widths without involving a non-perturbative ``shape function''.

Inclusive spectra in charmless semileptonic B decays by Dressed Gluon Exponentiation

The triple differential spectrum in \bar{B} -> X_u l \barν is computed by Dressed Gluon Exponentiation (DGE). In this framework the on-shell calculation, converted into hadronic variables, can be directly used as an approximation to the meson decay spectrum, without involving a leading-power non-perturbative function. Sudakov resummation for the fully differential \bar{B} -> X_u l \barν width is formulated in moment space, where moments are defined using the ratio between the lightcone momentum components of the partonic jet p^+/p^- and the hard scale is p^-. In these variables the correspondence with the \bar{B} -> X_s γcase is transparent. The Sudakov exponent is known to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Further constraints are put on its Borel sum using the cancellation of the leading renormalon ambiguity and the absence of the next-to-leading one, which was proven in the large-beta_0 limit and assumed here to be general. Based on the resummed spectrum, matched to the fully differential NLO result, we calculate the event fraction associated with experimental cuts on the hadronic mass (or the small lightcone component) as well as on the lepton energy. Finally, we extract |V_ub| from recent measurements by Belle and analyze the theoretical uncertainty.

A Closer Look at the Analysis of NLL BFKL

The initial analyses of the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections to the BFKL kernel were very discouraging. Encouraged by the success of new methods in the analysis of the BFKL equation at full NLL accuracy we demonstrate in this talk how some of the initial conclusions were based on a breakdown of the tools used in the analysis rather than the framework itself.

Taming the B --> X(s) gamma spectrum by Dressed Gluon Exponentiation

We show that the B \to X(s) gamma photon energy (E_gamma) spectrum can be reliably computed by resummed perturbation theory. Our calculation is based on Dressed Gluon Exponentiation (DGE) incorporating Sudakov and renormalon resummation. It is shown that the resummed spectrum does not have the perturbative support properties: it smoothly extends to the non-perturbative region E_gamma > m/2, where m is the quark pole mass, and tends to zero near the physical endpoint. The calculation of the Sudakov factor, which determines the shape of the spectrum in the peak region, as well as that of the pole mass, which sets the energy scale, are performed using Principal-Value Borel summation. By using the same prescription in both, the cancellation of the leading renormalon ambiguity is respected. Furthermore, in computing the Sudakov exponent we go beyond the formal next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy using the large-order asymptotic behavior of the series, which is accurately determined from the relation with the pole mass. Upon matching the resummed result with the next-to-leading order expression we compute the spectrum, obtain its moments as a function of a minimum photon energy cut, analyze sources of uncertainty and show that our predictions are in good agreement with Belle data.

A New Approach to Inclusive Decay Spectra

The main obstacle in describing inclusive decay spectra in QCD - which, in particular, limits the precision in extrapolating the measured \bar{B} \to X(s) gamma rate to the full phase space as well as in extracting |V_{ub}| from inclusive measurements of charmless semileptonic decays - is their sensitivity to the non-perturbative momentum distribution of the heavy quark in the meson. We show that, despite this sensitivity, resummed perturbation theory has high predictive power. Conventional Sudakov-resummed perturbation theory describing the decay of an on-shell heavy quark yields a divergent expansion. Detailed understanding of this divergence in terms of infrared renormalons has paved the way for making quantitative predictions. In particular, the leading renormalon ambiguity cancels out between the Sudakov factor and the quark pole mass. This cancellation requires renormalon resummation but involves no non-perturbative information. Additional effects due to the Fermi motion of the quark in the meson can be systematically taken into account through power corrections, which are only important near the physical endpoint. This way the moments of the \bar{B}\to X(s) gamma spectrum with experimentally-accessible cuts - which had been so far just parametrized - were recently computed by perturbative means. At Moriond these predictions were confronted with new data from BaBar.

A Study of the Gluon Ladder in Diffractive Processes

The solution to the non-forward BFKL equation in the Leading Logarithmic approximation is expressed in terms of a sum of iterations of its kernel directly in transverse momentum and rapidity space. Several studies of the non-forward solution are performed both at the level of the gluon Green's function and for a toy cross-section, including an analysis of the diffusion properties as found in this approach. The method developed in this paper allows for a direct inspection of the momenta in the BFKL ladder, and can be applied to solving the non-forward BFKL equation to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, when the corresponding kernel is available.

The Gluon Green's Function in N=4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory

The high energy limit of scattering amplitudes in the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory is studied by solving the corresponding BFKL equation in the next-to-leading approximation. The gluon Green's function is analysed using a newly proposed method suitable for investigating the contribution from higher conformal spins. From this new approach complete agreement is obtained with the results of Kotikov and Lipatov on conformal spins and angular dependence.

New possibilities in the study of NLL BFKL

The high energy limit of scattering processes in QCD is, at least on the purely theoretical level, described by the BFKL equation. However, many phenomenological studies of BFKL fail miserably when confronted with data. In this talk we will briefly review the application of (LL) BFKL in phenomenology, and critically examine the application of LL eigenfunctions in the study of the NLL BFKL kernel. We then introduce a recently proposed iterative solution of the NLL BFKL equation that allows for a detailed study of physical properties of the BFKL evolution.

The Gluon Green's Function in the BFKL Approach at Next-to-Leading Logarithmic Accuracy

We investigate the gluon Green's function in the high energy limit of QCD using a recently proposed iterative solution of the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) equation at next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. To establish the applicability of this method in the NLL approximation we solve the BFKL equation as originally written by Fadin and Lipatov, and compare the results with previous studies in the leading logarithmic (LL) approximation.
