On the independence of axioms for measures of non-compactness

We investigate the independence of the axioms in the Bana\'s--Goebel approach to the theory of measures of non-compactness. We present a complete answer for four of the five axioms. For the remaining axiom, we provide a full solution in finite-dimensional spaces and a partial one in the infinite-dimensional case.

Order Cancellation Law in a Semigroup of Closed Convex Sets

In this paper generalize Robinson's version of an order cancellation law for subsets of vector spaces in which we cancel by unbounded sets. We introduce the notion of weakly narrow sets in normed spaces, study their properties and prove the order cancellation law where the canceled set is weakly narrow. Also we prove the order cancellation law for closed convex subsets of topological vector space where the canceled set has bounded Hausdorff-like distance from its recession cone. We topologically embed the semigroup of closed convex sets sharing a recession cone having bounded Hausdorff-like distance from it into a topological vector space. This result extends Bielawski and Tabor's generalization of Radstrom theorem.

Minimal pairs of convex sets which share a recession cone

Robinson introduced a quotient space of pairs of convex sets which share their recession cone. In this paper minimal pairs of unbounded convex sets, i.e. minimal representations of elements of Robinson's spaces are investigated. The fact that a minimal pair having property of translation is reduced is proved. In the case of pairs of two-dimensional sets a formula for an equivalent minimal pair is given, a criterion of minimality of a pair of sets is presented and reducibility of all minimal pairs is proved. Shephard--Weil--Schneider's criterion for polytopal summand of a compact convex set is generalized to unbounded convex sets. An application of minimal pairs of unbounded convex sets to Hartman's minimal representation of dc-functions is shown. Examples of minimal pairs of three-dimensional sets are given.
